I am 67, ten years younger than Freddie was. I just "discovered" Freddie and Queen this year, and am utterly blown away. Like you all, his utter passion while singing, that incredible voice , brings out such emotion in we who watch and listen. At first I felt that I had "missed out" on Freddie, the years of his heyday when I was too busy in studies and only knew "Queen" was a group out there, but now I realize: I didn't "miss out" : I have this massive gift to explore, this person, this music, even the many biographies (57 of them). I've told friends that I feel as if I have discovered this wonderful new ocean, about which millions of people long since knew, but which is new to me now, and cherished. He was the Legend he hoped he'd be.

Discovered? Have you not lived near a radio your entire life?
@MsShoosh13 ай бұрын
Did you not read? We knew Queen back then, but at the time they were not anything special. Have you not lived near a radio? You sanctimonious little shit! If you actually listened to a radio you would get how much music was changing at this point, how many groups were up and coming, the genre was changing. 60's to the 70's. First album released in 1973. Were you actually around then??When karenbradley6807 said discovered, it was obvious they were talking about a re-discovery. I did the same. No one was jumping for joy and having five fits about Queen at that time. To much else going on. How dare you! Like any other group it took time to get a following. Queen understood this, you know better than them??? Get off your high horse. If you were actually around at that time, you were not paying attention. So sick and tired of those that do not know, never been there trying to tell those of us that were. Full stop.

Music isn't the same these days. Queen was unique.
@MsShoosh13 ай бұрын
Actually they were not. IF you listen to the music coming out at the same time as Queen. Unique in a way, for sure, it was a hell of a time for rock and roll. Rock does not exist anymore. Mores the pity. True rock and roll is gone. There is not much now, if anything, captures the feeling, typing this I am having a hard time trying to explain what I mean. any old rockers out there help me out!!!!!

A lot of musicians of this time were sound engineers, int he sense that they had a great ear for musical instruments and how to use sound to actually create a structure, almost as if it was a solid thing in its own right. Queen had Freddie, who is very talented and the rest of the band especially Brian May, are actual geniuses and they were very good at complimenting his vocals. They created a very unique sound. When other bands created a structure, Queen songs actually feel like they create a whole entire universe. Every one of their songs takes me back to being a kid when I heard their music for the first time. I couldn’t speak or understand English but I was absolutely mesmerized by their sound.

In my opinion, 'Who Wants To Live Forever' is Freddie's finest performance at the Wembley '86 concert. He doesn't care if his voice cracks here and there. He gives it everything he's got, because this song moves him as well. 'I Want To Break Free' is a personal all-time pop favourite of mine. It was the song that made me fall in love with Queen when I was 8 years old. But that song is merciless to the vocal cords, so I admire everyone that are brave enough to perform it live :)

Johannes Roth best comment on freddie
@strawbrryfld15 жыл бұрын
So true. I miss him every day. They have been my favorite band since I was 8 when KeeP Yourself Alive came out. I was a ballet dancer started at age 4 and I remember hearing an electric guitar for the first time. I have to say it took some time to grow on me, I grew up hearing folk music and the change to rock was a much harsher sound. Being a dancer we didn’t get much rock music. It was all classical. Queen changed that for me. Funny because Freddie was the one who said he wanted to bring ballet to the masses.....

Mike Smith no that’s NOT what I said. Read it again. My response was to J Roth. I did not say I KNEW anyone. I simply expressed my love for their music and the fact that I was a ballet dancer. Freddie made a comment about bringing ballet to the masses.

Devastating. So sad this beautiful soul suffered such a horrible death. Not fair. He gave the world so much love. All he wanted to was to be happy and to make others happy. I'm sure all Queen's true fans recognize what a gift they all (Brian, John, Freddie, and Roger) have given us. The joy, the love, the peace, and happiness we feel listening to their music. 💖
