Continuing the journey through some of Queen's outstanding moments from the last 50 years, we celebrate the extraordinary achievement that has seen all four members of the band write hit singles for Queen. The songs will be very familiar, but who composed them might come as a surprise. This week, we look at five hits penned by drummer, Roger Taylor.

He was a more prominent backing vocalist than Brian in studio and on stage and impressive as he sang more than people realise while playing the drums its quite awkward but he nailed it But what I respect about Roger is he was focused on what he was doing but not lost in it,he was always aware of Freddie If his voice was getting strained he stepped up to give Freddie chance to regain himself He may have just pipped Freddie at the post with being slightly higher, but a lot of people think he was much higher Freddie could do most of the same notes but Roger had a fuller? Tone on the high notes thats why his were often used even on notes Freddie could do Cant remember where that was explained Roger did add a lot to a song even if it was just notes here and there Would have felt flatter? Without it Saying that I did enjoy Freddies songs in falsetto

@@bluebell3720 in a similar light it's also the main reason when Freddie and Montserrat sang together. Freddie let her do the falsetto notes. He him self used his more natural baritone voice.

Drowse is such a good song. It's a bit of a tongue-in-cheek reflection on life from an old person's perspective, which is rather ironic considering Roger was still in his mid-20's when he wrote it, but it does have a genuine poignancy to it as well which only grows stronger as you get older.

@@bluebell3720 I guess with Deacy's songs, it would depend on whose chart those figures will come from. Some outlets showed more love than others so it should be interesting how they'll present Deacy's songs. The same could be said 'bout Freddie 'n Bri's songs as well. They're popular amongst us Queen fans right...but that doesn't necessarily translate how well they placed on the various charts across the world. For example: BoRhap wasn't a #1 record on the US chart the first time 'round but it made it in subsequent releases (post Freddie's death). Never "WWRY or WATC" were #1 on the US charts but charted at #3 on their initial release. "You're My Best Friend" did better in North America than it did ATP in the UK. It highest rank was #3 on the Canadian charts 'n #6 on the US Cash charts. So I suppose we'll see how Queen will present the rest of the band's song writing efforts!

@@Motown-1966 John had more top ten hits during Queen than Brian but its easier to pad out his work as he did more.. and I think this channel has a little bias Because John is quiet he's often over looked or played down thats why I said it They're a uk band so they focus on that chart if they've had a hit Big deal if it does well in the us They will mention if it did well accross a lot of terrotories But if it only did well a couple of places other than uk or us they dont normally say it was a hit john had a top ten before Brian and Roger with best friend which they didn't want it's quite well known outside of fans, used in ads and films then he had a uk top ten with AOBTD 80 but it was a no 1 in the us and still their best selling single in the us,I think and it's still popular outside of fans 80 Brian had his first top ten with Flash but for Brian they have already highlighted KYA which didn't chart wasn't a top 10 but they can put Now Im here as a hit for Brian at no 11 and it has a story because he had been ill but I think they have already brought attention to it Brians we will Rock you although it was played with champions it didn't do well on the charts low in the US no uk info but it was no 1 in France so they could claim it was no 1 but they wouldn't really have considered that at the time it was no 1 when it was re released with five live 2000 John had a hit with Brake free at no 3 uk he only did songs with Freddie on the miracle and none on Innuendo so there is less to promote that's why I'm hoping they will pad out what he did they could say his track for Highlander was a fan fav.. but they didnt even mention highlander for Roger or that he had a Brit award! Brian only had top ten with I want it all and Flash save me was 11 and now I'm here they can put attention on rock you as it had a lot of radio play, fav with fans become an anthem..still top 5 queen songs, you tube and spotify they can name a few fan favs..and pad out what he's done I hope they make the same effort with john Freddie had no 1 with Bo Rap for 9 weeks in the uk and is still their top selling song, their most iconic song,no 1 again in 91 for 5 weeks both over christmas still a big deal even though it only got to no 9 in the us but it was still a top ten there 1.4 b downloads just on spotify hall of fame 2004 us no 2 in 92 no 1 cash box but I dont understand the difference he had a us no 1 with crazy little thing no 2 uk so still a hit champions did well uk no 2 and well in the us at no 4 freddies and their first single to chart seven seas uk no 10 freddies and their first hit was killer Queen at no 2 uk 12 us somebody to love uk no 2 us 13 champions uk 2 hall of fame with rock you DSMN uk no 9 but has become their second most popular, succesful song you tube and 1b downloads just on spotify used in quite a few films Top Gear tv show voted best driving song of all time! hard life and winters tale at no 6 as well as fan favs such as love of my life which wasn't released.. I will be a little annoyed if they highlight show must go on as Brians song and not a colab with Freddie which Brian clearly implied in his express interview which he has since played down (Innuendo colab with Roger not a group colab) 70s quite a few of Freddie songs had a few showings on top giving them tv coverage and two christmas shows two consecutive years Edit roger and Brian didnt want AOBTD They liked IWTBF Their video worked out well! Edit tv top Seven seas x 3 Killer queen x3 And christmas show jenson killer Queen Now im here x2 brian Bo rap x9 Somebody to love Good old fashioned lover boy Freddie No 17 Champions Bbc christmas eve hammersmith AOBTD in 80 Uk 7 us 1 Under pressure in 81 With Bowie uk 1 Las pas in 82 Uk no 17 For Brian and John they can mention tv shows as well

There will never be another band like Queen. All are college graduates. Musically talented. I’m not sure if John Deacon can be a singer, but all can write songs. I wish there were videos of him singing clearly that people can enjoy later on. Watching their interviews, they seem to be down to earth. And as Freddie Mercury once said, it’s not just about the money, they wanted to be a respected musicians and they definitely are. It’s hard to choose who to like the most. Roger Taylor is the best drummer in the world, I don’t care what others might say. But as a young kid, I was disappointed upon finding out that the cute Barbie schoolgirl from I want to break free is a man haha. Love you Roger. Take care always. And congratulations heard you are now a grandfather.

Love the fact Roger is given acknowledgement and praise! 👍😁 He's a beast on the drums, no question, but I feel like his songs aren't talked about us much (maybe because they came at a later time, and when songs were credited to the entire band). Roger's so much more than just a tantrum-prone, pretty face party boy! (I've seen people seeing him as only that 😢) Keep up the great series! One of the things I most look-forward to every week!

Ga Ga and Kind of Magic were credited to him The other 4 as Queen but on wiki as written by him And in the descriptions of videos For some reason queen official isnt putting the writter on the video anymore!? People have preferences You think people would give the song more attention if they knew it was his just to support him not because they like the song? Sorry if I've misunderstood

"Maybe because they came at a later time..." Yeah...IDK where the narrator of this video is coming from with that as Rog has written quite a few songs that are fun to listen to and are quite poignant! Here are links to ALL of his songs/videos here on KZbin. Have a listen 'n come back to tell me if some of these (if not all) are bangers! Most of Rog's earlier songs pre Kind of Magic LP, he was the lead singer or co-sang with Freddie. His songs post Kind of Magic LP, Rog's songs were sung by Freddie so IDK...maybe this is the crux of why Rog's latter songs were focused on in this video. "Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll" studio version from Queen's debut LP: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIvEaqF3otZ6m6M Live version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKnNd2SHe9GMl80 The whole 'hair piece for the chest 'n ring in the nose really makes me LOL! Rog sings this one on the studio version 'n Freddie always took care of the live performances. "The Loser in the End" is a studio only song from the Queen II LP that wasn't performed (to my knowledge with the original Queen band) live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3rdia1-qduae5o This is one of my personal favorites of Rog's songs! "Tenement Funster" was the first of a trilogy on Queen's 3rd LP, Shear Heart Attack and must be played the way it's released: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5nNfpxoj951rdE This song was VERY popular...it wasn't sung live (to my knowledge with the original Queen band) nor was it a a single release but it's very popular never the less! "I'm in Love with My Car" studio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZKofmeAjquDnNk and live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2PcgZaJrM-bfdE versions always sung lead by Roger! This appeared on their 4th LP effort, A Night at the Opera. "Drowse" is another studio only song (to my knowledge with the original Queen band) which appeared on their 5th LP effort, A Day at the Races that was lead by Rog! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJS7qYyNesd1e6c "Sheer Heart Attack" was a banger that Rog penned 'n appeared on their 6th LP effort News of the World! Rog 'n Freddie shared lead vocals on the studio version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJyrd5KAgtN1btE and Freddie took care of the live version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGLTaamOpqqBY7s (which he'd acted-out like those up 'n coming punk rockers, were filled with high energy, 'n hellva fun to watch). "Fun It" & "More of That Jazz" is when Rog started writing two songs per LP from their 7th effort called Jazz! The former is more of a DISCO track whereas the latter is more rock. Never songs were played live (to my knowledge with the original Queen band) but both were lead by Rog in their studio release: "Fun it" kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqmzgnlqgJqimck "More of that Jazz" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6fGgKqLiZmpa7c "Rock It (Prime Jive)" & "Coming Soon" appeared on their next studio effort The Game! Both Freddie 'n Rog share lead vocals. Neither of these were performed live (to my knowledge with the original Queen band). "Rock It (Prime Jive)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4GymIFtgtqCq8k & "Coming Soon" kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqSUZnWVhdR0bpI I'm skipping the Flash Soundtrack as it's nothing like the other subsequent Highlander soundtrack that has songs that also appeared on Queen's Kind of Magic LP. "Action This Day" & "Calling All Girls" are both from the Hot Space LP. The former is more of new wave 'n the latter is more pop rock. Both songs were sung by Freddie 'n they both were included in various live sets. "Action This Day" studio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnnXZpuujruNl8U live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6vQpZx8a76ZrpI "Calling All Girls" studio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIXRm6B_gt56Z68 & live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXapm6OvoZp-gZo Which brings us to The Works LP 'n "Radio Ga Ga" which was mentioned in this video. The studio version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6vHqKaOgdKlfqc is a classic for the handclapping gestures repeated at their live performances. The Live Aid performance (my personal favorite): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pV6TqpqNYqeSnas clearly shows us this as the audience was easily seen in the daylight. Hope you get the chance to ck-out all of Roger Taylor penned songs throughout Queen's LP back catalogue history which will show many songs SHOULD'VE been included on this Queen the Greatest video!

OH MY GOD RADIO GA GA IS MY MOST FAVORITE SONG.. WHEN I HEARD IT I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS WRITTEN BY ROGER. BUT HIS WRITING ALWAYS AFFECTED ME IN A WAY I CAN'T EXPLAIN. WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING. HE IS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PERSON & ARTIST. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.💖💚❤️💙💕💜 BUT OFTEN I FEEL HIS CONTRIBUTION TO QUEEN & OVERALL MUSIC.. HIS TALENT IS OVERLOOKED OR NOT GREATLY APPRECIATED. HE PLAYED DRUMS, WROTE SUPERB SONGS, ALSO HE WAS THE BACK UP VOCALIST FOR FREDDIE EVEN WHEN FREDDIE GOT TIRED USING HIS VOICE SO MUCH ROGER TOOK OVER TO GIVE HIM SOME REST. IT'S NOT EASY AT ALL. I LOVE HIM MORE THAN ANYTHING 😘😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 AND WHAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT HIS FALSETTO? HIS VOICE IS MAGICAL! POWERFUL! BEAUTIFUL...AND LOOK AT THAT FACE! JUST ETHEREAL! 🔥🔥😍😍LEGEND

Roger Taylor wasn't only a best buddy of Freddie Mercury. He was also a serious student of Freddie's life philosophy - example - 'you're free to be all you want to be. Roger was confident of reaching personal goals regarding his music, for sure, i.e., Roger wrote, produced and marketed his own compositions - many charting. Roger was the first of the four to do solo albums. To this day he steps from the Queen Box to be an entertainment icon on his own. I appreciate Roger for who he was with and for Queen and Freddie too - and for his commitment to personal goals.
