When Luffy defeated Crocodile, the leader of the underground organisation Baroque Works, he punched him up through the ceiling into the light for all to see. For Doflamingo, a former Celestial Dragon and self proclaimed God, he punched him out of the sky into the ground. Where that demon belongs.

16:40 Excellent question 16 is a number that comes back a lot when it comes to the World Government and Celestial Dragons One of the people who hated Doffy's family and wanted revenge in his flashback mentioned that just for the act of crossing path with a celestial dragons his kids were shot dead 16 times. Another mention of the number was back in Post Marineford with the Ox Bell, the bell Luffy was ringing when he went back at Marineford. It usually rings 16 times. 8 to announce the end of a year and 8 more for the next year making it 16 in total. The world interpreted it as Luffy claiming an era died and a new one will be born.

The crying at the end of 734 always gets me. This man has suffered as a tin soldier toy for 10 years, unable to ever shed tears, even for the death of his wife, the suffering of his daughter, and the torment of his city and its people.... and when he's finally able to, it's tears of joy.
@sanji_joestarАй бұрын
Luffy shouting with his whole chest that Doflamingo's oppression is suffocating always gives me chills. You can see throughout the arc how he keeps triggering people by using what they desire or their hatred. He did it with Luffy and Ace's fruit or Bellamy, did it with Law and Cora and so on with the Coliseum. Luffy had to cool his head off after coming back up and following Law's plan before dealing with Doffy entirely. In the end Luffy was the one he couldn't anticipate, he escaped his Coliseum, the fruit was taken from Doffy, his factory destroyed, Sugar knocked out And Luffy dragging him back all the way down from the seat he was claiming. Perfect inversion of Crocodile, who was fighting Luffy underground and then brought back to the surface for everyone to see his deception and manipulation.
@totalgarbage2053Ай бұрын
I don’t really like how Toei dragged out the impact of the King Kong Gun. They made it seem like Doflamingo was holding it back for a moment when in reality the King Kong Gun instantly broke through Doflamingos defense. In the manga it was one panel, with Luffys fist clashing into Doffys face and then Doflamingo getting knocked down to hell, and a true instant K-O. That’s how easily Gear 4 surpassed Doflamingo in raw power.

I'll admit it initially makes King Kong gun look weaker and even a bit mechanically questionable with the stopping of momentum of the punch and even slight pushback from God thread etc, but the musical timing and suspense with all the other characters of Dressrosa calling out luffys name is so immensely satisfying. I still interpreted from the anime that the whole punch itself did take very very little actual time. almost like we are watching a 1 second event but frozen in time so we can get that extra emotional punch from the characters before the punch... That all spoken by Luffy, doflamingo, and the crowd after the punch is first thrown is not happening in real time, and can just be thought of as their inner raw emotions in that very moment. The one hit KO edits just don't hit in the feels nearly as hard... and the original edit from toei will always be my favorite version.

Im not sure if anybody has pointed this out to you yet Queen, but Viola and Doflamingo very much had a "intimate" romantic relationship prior to the Straw Hats showing up, as Oda has confirmed in an SBS entry. Really screwed up when you realize how one sided it was and how much Doflamingo was just using Viola, especially with how much Doffy knew she wanted to see her family remain safe. Not really a situation where somebody can properly consent at all. Im GLAD Sanji cucked that String Bastard
@jamesadvincola9687Ай бұрын
People really drag this into the ground. A lot of the stuff Oda says in the SBS is a lot of nonsense that shouldn’t be taken too seriously imo.
@formerctgovernordannelmall1452Ай бұрын
@jamesadvincola9687 You're correct about some SBS content being nonsense, BUT I think an important distinction with what you mentioned is that most* of the nonsense he provides in SBS entries are efforts to retcon legitimate mistakes or plotholes he made into plot consistent, canon details via comedy For example: "Hey Oda, how is the door to Makino's bar fixed by the time the mountain bandits leave, when Higuma smashed it off its hinge when he came in?" Oda: "Good observation! You see, there's a short repairman who lived in Luffy's hometown who's obsessive about fixing broken things, who took care of it when we weren't looking at him. Here's his name (he's from Wano, you see!), and here's an illustration of what he looks like: I *totally didn't JUST make him up this second 😉 wink wink" I, personally, don't think this bit about Viola and Doffy is something that falls into this category of nonsense. The way I see it, Oda doesn't like to put romantic relationships front and center in his narrative and-like in a lot of cases with Celestial Dragons taking advantage of helpless women-figured the more lurid details were best left to implication. One example of this Queen has already reached was the woman in Sabaody who Charloss ripped away from her fiancé to become his bride. It's never directly stated, but I think anybody can infer* that Charloss is going to do vile, monstrous things to her. Sure, people talk this point a bit to death sometimes, but is it really that far out of the realm of reason that Doflamingo would keep the daughter of the king who's throne he took as a sickening kind of pet for his own romantic affection? Because he knew she could never object or fight back; Because her niece was currently imprisoned in the coliseum and Doflamingo could have her murdered at the snap of his fingers Edit: accidentally called Rebecca Viola's sister instead of her niece, fixed some weirdly worded sentences and grammar
@Rutabega_NGАй бұрын
@@jamesadvincola9687 The only reason these things aren't part of the main story is because it is a shonen, the audience skews a bit younger than those who would normally be exposed to such things, but that theme, that issue, has popped up multiple times throughout this story. It's uncomfortable, it's unpleasant, but it's there.
@jamesadvincola9687Ай бұрын
@@Rutabega_NG I’m speaking on that specific piece of info. It literally adds nothing to the story. I don’t know why it’s brought up so much. Just some throw away info Oda threw in a SBS. That makes no difference to the arc. Plenty of dark themes and topics shown and discussed in one piece.
@formerctgovernordannelmall1452Ай бұрын
@jamesadvincola9687 I think you're actually right that, regardless of how seriously that tidbit of info should be taken, it doesn't really add much to the themes of Dressrosa beyond being yet another example of Doflamingo's unending manipulation and cruelty. I can see how one could look at that, being introduced SO LATE into the story as just putting a hat on a hat of demonstrating what a big jerk Doffy is. HOWEVER, I would argue that it does bolster a lot of the thematic monstrosity of the Celestials. If you include the noncanon Film Gold which Oda wrote, there are now three instances (Doflamingo notwithstanding) of Celestials feeling entitled to the love and affection of others to the point where they abduct people as wives. One is the example I gave previously of the woman on Sabaody. I won't spoil exactly who in case you aren't current on the manga, but we also have a pretty much near-confirmed case later on of a character being the product of a woman being forced to bear a Celestial's baby. Clearly this is a practice frequent enough among the Celestials that Oda feels the need to emphasize it, even if he doesn't feel comfortable fully spelling it out. Again, I fully agree with you that people do beat it a bit to death, but I just disagree that it has zero or negligible follow through or relevance in the narrative period.
@hanswurst2923Ай бұрын
Ok wow, I tried watching 733 on its own to get the full experience but damn, your cut is the better version. Toei at that point really fucked the pacing hard. Just know, in recent years a couple things changed with how they approach the anime. They started to take it very seriously and began hiring the top animators and directors from all around the world, many of whom have been massive One Piece fans themselves since their childhood. Subsequently they got exponentially better at giving the important moments the room, breath and impact they deserve. The last couple things were hype beyond anything you would expect at this point. Some of that stuff is movie level+ quality. There are still the episodes that just exist to drag it out but it's so much better now when it really counts.

Sixteen is an important number for the Tenryu people. When Luffy returned to Marine Ford after the death of Ace, he rang the bell 16 times, and 16 is also used in Doflamingo's technique. And the Five Elders make their first appearance in the Drum Kingdom (Chopper Arc) in volume 16 of the One Piece manga. Is this a coincidence? No. Oda is working it in. And there is a more important meaning in the Japanese language. But since it would be a spoiler here, I will write about it again at that time.
