+TheDarkness Hispanics are people that speak Spanish, especially one of Latin American descent, living in the US. Slaves are people who are the legal property of another person and are forced to obey them. Native Americans are any members of any of the indigenous peoples of North and South America and the Caribbean Islands So basically what they are saying is that shopping malls are being built over the dead bodies of these people, just so that everyone forgets what it was like back then. (That's how interpreted it however, especially because I am from Australia so I could very well be wrong). :)

+Trunisha Patel There were no oppressed Hispanics, the Spanish and Portuguese conquered more territory in the Americas than every northern european empire combined (hence why most of the americas speak Spanish or Portuguese), The Portuguese also actually transported around 50-60% of all the slaves transported from Africa to the Americas, and the Spanish supposedly killed almost 20 million natives during there colonisation (although thats hard to verify) of south and central america. So when she says "bones of the hispanics", she's likening slaves, to the biggest importer of slaves to the Americas, ridiculous right?

My friend in my theater class did this poem as a monologue, however when she asked our teacher for approval she said to change the word "rape" in 1 to "her experiences" . She also said to cut out 2 entirely. The irony here is ludicrous.

+kataigidajj I raised that point, I'm not a "conservative", I'm not from the states, I have no political opinion of what's going on in the US because I don't really know enough to care. One thing I do care about is history, and to compare the hispanics that existed at the same time as the slaves and natives is NOT a very "liberal" thing to do. It reveals the agenda of these people is not to promote a factual argument but to promote a political agenda. I believe that presenting Hispanics in the same category as slaves and natives is deliberate misinformation to promote an anti white-middle-america, as a non american that's the tone I got and sometimes one small bit of misinformation like that is a giveaway, people on the far right do it ll the time.

+J Rton ok fair enough the hispanics came over from Europe to South and Central America.. but they also occupied the area of texas, new mexico and california.. but were driven out by Americans.. and President James Polk incited war with Mexico in 1846 and forced them to surrender. In the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Mexico had to cede California, New Mexico territory and Texas - the US gained around 1/2 million square miles of territory. Polk and a lot of the southerners wanted to keep pushing for the rest of Mexico however Northern powers in Congress blocked this. Attempts were also made on Nicaragua and Cuba. So in my eyes although the massacres of the Spanish conquistadores are also horrific and just another example of european colonisation, this still by no means justifies American settlers pushing out and killing the Mexicans for the land they had already settled on. Also this is poetry, of course it has an agenda, and being a non-american white girl, i don't feel its promoting an anti-white america. Issues need to be raised like this. With Fox news and all those news channels so often blasting right wing propaganda into peoples ears, personally I think its a very good thing for young kids, boys and girls, to listen to something so blunt like this. People can't learn about their country's history, or how not to behave, if all the sensitive issues are constantly swept under the rug.

Coming from England, it's almost frightening to see the degree to which the USA is damaged. English textbooks have a tendency to white-wash, but from what I've heard it's worse in America. Things we experience over here almost seem to go to the extreme over there. It's sad that, in a society where the West revels in it's ignorant views of dazzling contemporaneity, there are so many things wrong that could potentially be put to right quite easily. Rape culture, censorship, unnecessary damaging of the mentalities of the young- could be eradicated, if only they were more widely acknowledged. This is a powerful video. It's great. And it's important.

I think, perhaps, I phrased my point badly. The West acknowledges rape culture in those areas, but doesn't recognise it in within it's own borders. Rape culture is more prevalent in the Middle East, there's no denying that. But since this was targeted at Americans- as in 'Somewhere in America'- it's Americas inability to recognise it that constitutes to it being an issue. Does that make sense? Or am I rambling (there's a solid chance I'm rambling, I have a tendency to do that)

1:54 hits hard. I went to a private Christian school growing up and our history book was white washed. We never got past early America and we where taught that even tho Columbus did horrific things oh that’s ok cuz he “founded” America so it’s All forgivable. Whenever there was a school shooting we wouldn’t acknowledge it it would only be and let the families who lost people be ok now let’s go praise jesus and sing worship songs and they never went farther then that. I’m so thankful for my teacher who teaches me right now because he wants to teach us about current events and stuff that other teachers wouldn’t teach us. If there’s a school shooting or anything we take part of class to learn about what happened and to acknowledge who died and what happened. There was so much stuff missing from my history book we spent more time learning about indentured servants then slaves. I was never taught what I am being taught today I was held back from that knowledge because apparently it wasn’t “school appropriate” teach us about how Columbus was a great guy but never spend much time on learning about slavery.

The thrift store one hit hard. I’m the oldest girl in my family, and 99% of my wardrobe is made up of my mom’s old clothes or my older brothers’ really old hand-me-downs. Damned smart young women. My daughter is a teacher here in Oklahoma were we live. Oklahoma teachers are paid the lowest per of ANY state. She has been teaching fifth grade for almost five terms I think. Her first round of kids are entering junior high. 12 of 22 students have made it to the national honor society. I grew up without too much money. Yes, I still have fun stuff like video games, but I have it worse than all but one of my friends. I normally only get clothes during back to school shopping or Christmas. Maybe a shirt and pants on my birthday, but I don't normally get stuff on my birthday because it's in January. On Christmas I get a lot of clothes from my aunt. I normally wear the same hoodie every day so people don't notice that I have to wear the same shirt two days in a row sometimes. I don't wear shorts because I don't have the "cute" ones all the girls talk about and just lie saying they're uncomfortable. Most of the time when I talk to friends and say "sorry I have to go" it's because I'm scared if I talk on the phone too much we won't be able to pay the bills and decide to ride my bike instead. It's that exact reason why I've been so close to shootings so many times in my life. I've heard the gunshots and decide to go home, completely unfazed. I learned to trust my gut and I have very good intuition but the only reason I go outside when I know something will happen is because I know that if I keep playing games I won't be able to afford any new shirts over the summer. It's been even worse since my mom can't work. I hope she gets better soon. It sucks she can't do much because of her fall. I asked for six dollars but we couldn't cough up the money. It sucks, and the fact my friends complain about not having any pants when they have drawers full makes me sad. You have at least 25, I have at max 10. Be grateful. Are you complaining about not having any good snacks? The only snack I can have is an otter pop and a granola bar if I'm lucky. Oh poor you, you only have the iPhone 10 and an old ipad, I can't afford either of those. Aw, you only have two dogs and a cat? I have a dog and might get a hamster because I've wanted one for years. I'm grateful for what I have. I understand people have it worse, I'm just saying that seeing people complain to you that they're poor hurts when they have it better than you. If you have it worse than me, I hope you win the lottery or something. That or at least have friends that are more grateful for what they have. And maybe do t have friends that complain about boredom when they HAVE A VR HEADSET. I wonder how my friend can get bored when she has a huge tv, a VR headset, three cats, two dogs considering her grandparents basically share that dog with them, an iphone, an iPad, like a thousand Lego sets, and a playground.
