Queni Koi QK15 Combi drum first look

Just received my QK15 Combi/bio drum filter. Never owned a filter before so this is new territory for me. I will make another video when it is all set up and running. In the meantime sit back and enjoy my first walkaround of this unit.

Nice bit of kit. I've got a Filtreau20 + moving bed been running 18 months. Water is so clear and clean you wouldn't believe it. You wont regret it. Keep up the good work

Hi Steve from a fellow kio keeper with a profidrum combo my amalgam uv is sited same side as yours but under the drum itself.This was fitted there by Darren at Absolute kio the reason being it keeps the drum clean no need to clean with acid as some guys do.Adam Julian had video on u tube with two profidrums one with uv sited under drum and the other without you can see a lot of difference.Looking forward to your build best of luck.👍

I know what you mean Mark re Darren and Adam but my drum rotates length ways not cross ways and the drum portion is in the centre. I will follow Queni advice as it stands but appreciate the advice.

Combi drums are the way forward. I just got a profi drum combibio from Darren @ absolute koi after running near 30 years on modified 5bay system you’ll be amazed by the results pipe it up with rubber joiners makes it easy for maintenance etc amalgum 40watt uv will be just as powerful as a normal 110watt uv due to gas inside but don’t look at the light or expose skin to it or You’ll ball’s yourself up You will be amazed 😉👍🏻👍🏻 Make sure you have room to pull uv bulb out to replace

Totally agree koi water barn is great too Adam at Queni used to work for Keith at the water barn I believe or I could be confusing with different guy 😂😂 is Matt going to re glass pond after repairs/ modifications

@@alansmall9071 Yeah Matt is already signed up to do the blessing, he's my first port of call. Started faffing with filter, pipework, returns etc very early so I get it right. Matt has given me instructions for preparing for his visit too so hopefully no-one is held up. Cheers

Looks very well made. Bigger than I was expecting. I have earmarked space for a filter bay at the side of my pond, but may have to go back to the head scratching phase again now 🙄😅

Don't forget to add on all the inlet/return bends as they add more length. Pkus as stated, removal of UV bulb. You won't regret planning for extra space as it soon fills up. Cheers Chris

Hi Steve, Great choice. Put the amalgam UV under the drum on the clean side. Reason being it will keep the drum screen clean as it wont let any bacteria grow on the mesh.

Mate get the K1 micro in pp then net bags with a brick as well then put them in the pond with air stone in each bag. then move to pool when you move the fish it will give you a head start on the bio build up time

I had 180L in my old pond in bags ready to go into the filters on the new setup it cuts weeks off the maturing of the stuff and it all floating to much

I've had every filter under the sun on my pond, the drum filter is definitely a step up as it takes rubbish out the system every hour or so instead of collecting it waiting for one big clean. Top Tip - when fitting drum, fit it slightly lower than recommended water level, as one disadvantage of a drum is it can collect waste on underside of waste shute, by lowing it slightly when you switch off pump, water rises under shute lifting off rubbish on underside and allows it to overflow into shute, so in realality I have mine set up at recommended level when she's running, when she's off because I've set drum lower, water level rises in drum cleaning underside of shute, hope that all makes sense.

I have got the same filter and it’s really good just a heads up the rubber seal on the drive motor will expand and contract with hot weather and will leak

They are awesome bits of kit mate. I've got the profi and it hasn't missed a beat in 4 years. Depending on your flow rate. If its high I wouldnt have it going all through the k1 chamber. I've got my shower feed coming out of the side by the actual drum. And a smaller pump taking a percentage of the water through the k1.

Yes Paul, the drum only needs to drop in 115mm below pit level to get to the correct water level. Good shout though.

The whole reason for buying the combi was because I'm increasing the pond from 1500g to 3000g, the last 10 videos have mentioned it. Cheers and stay safe over the pond.

I just bought 4 cubic feet which is equivalent to 17.5 cubic feet of traditional k1. www.wholesalekoifarm.net/product/k5filtermedia/ I don't knownif they're available in the UK mate. Be good for your moving bed. I need a small rdf. 😩 myself..
