Finally, tomorrow I get the TP Link AXE75 WiFi6E, at this point I should download the beta firmware directly on my Quest 3 and finally try Virtual Desktop. I have an RTX 3080 Ti and a Ryzen 7800X3D, which codec do I recommend for Virtual Desktop? I've always played with the link cable but the quality has never been up to par

Please report if you do try it! I'm interested in upgrading from my pico 4 since the wifi radio is pretty mediocre there. I'm interested in the Quest 3 because I've seen some post claiming it can handle a stable 400-500mbps h264+ experience via VD. If you wouldn't mind trying it out the latest update at very high bitrate in games with the AXE75 then I'd be grateful. I'm mostly interested in the network latency spikes when turning the head around and all that stuff.

I've been watching your videos for awhile now. You have plenty of informative content! I bought the same router a month ago for my Quest 3. I definitely have not observed that much fluctuation in mine. Mine is usually 2400 Mbps or a little bit less for brief moments. I don't ever see it drop as low as yours. It has never effected my experience in Virtual Desktop, not even once. I wonder if there are some other factors effecting your performance other than just the Quest 3 itself. Perhaps you live in a place that has some interference on the 6ghz band? Also as to your comment about "line of sight", I tested my Quest 3 on Virtual Desktop by going 2 rooms away from the router room, then went in a closet and shut the door. I was playing Skyrim VR. The signal strength was cut in half, yet it still had enough bandwidth to play it fine without any issues.
@MrTeeF11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. I appreciate your support. I would love to se a captured demonstration with an overlay. One potential factor might be the router version; if it's the US one, it allows full 6GHz, whereas the EU version only permits half for home wifi. Still, it should handle 2400 Mbps; perhaps your router has some wiggleroom www.wi-fi.org/countries-enabling-wi-fi-in-6-ghz-wi-fi-6e As for my area there is very little interference, and I'm unfortunately not alone with this issue. Alot of user have the same experience including TP-Link Shenzhen and they are testing in a very controlled environment.
@claw32011 ай бұрын
@@MrTeeF Wanted to give you a reply. So I don't have the time to setup a recording and upload it. I just now tried it out in VRChat for 30 minutes and watched the performance overlay. It's usually holding at 2400 mbps but does fluctuate down to numbers like: 2161, 1921, 1814, and 1729. 1729 is as low as I've seen in dip and only for brief moments. So certainly it's not 2400 "solid as a rock". At no point have I ever perceived any lags or stuttering in my VR experience. So even when it dips to 1729 it's the same to me as 2400. In your videos, there have been moments where it goes below 1000 and I'm not seeing anything like that. I do live in the US and bought the router at a local store here.

I did the v60 update a week or so ago. Made no difference, I even upgraded my AP from wifi 5 to wifi 6e. I'm using a Ubiquiti setup by the way. Sure I can see higher numbers now, but it still bounces around and drops down to the 800s at times. This is absolutely ridiculous that they haven't fixed this yet. Also something I notice that no one mentions, if you have a router/AP that only has a gigabit port on it then getting those really high speeds isn't going to matter. What matters the most is that consistent number that isn't jumping all over.

Hi. Thanks for commenting. This sounds like a different issue. Seams like you have problems with connecting to DNS. Might me a firewall on the deco preventing it. Use the report a problem feature to Meta. Go to the threader app an analyse your network to optimize it. You can also try setting the Quest to "fixed MAC adress". Go to experimental feature and enable advanced wifi settings. Then select your wifi and turn of "randomised MAC". Another ting to try is to set the headset to fixed IP and DMZ mode if you know how to do that.

@@MrTeeFThanks for the detailed reply, I will try these out tonight. Interestingly, I have the same issues on my Xbox Series X and my old Pixel 7 intermittently. So, while it seems like perhaps Qualcomm is to blame, I have the same issues on the Series X. These issues aren't present over Ethernet. It seems like about 50% of the time on all three of those devices, they will power on without Internet connection, but connected to the network (regardless of the band). You don't need more than 1200 Mbps for a good wireless experience. But the boost to 2400 Mbps is to extend your freedom of movement and eliminate interference. What you will be missing more is the 110degree FOV, pancake lenses, and higher resolution which gives you a crisper image. @paveljong9311 ай бұрын
Even if some wood will not make much of a difference for most people, you are demanding optimal functionality and a constant connection speed of the up to 2400 mbits available, without providing optimal circumstances for the signal. There is also other devices close to your router and a wall also. I bet you 10 bucks if you put it closer to yourself and away from the obstructions + the wall, it still will fluctuate but not as often and not that low. Im running an MSI Radix AXE6600 and playing within 1-3 meters of it. Still some fluctuations are possible but im talking about rare drops to 2100 mbits for a second or two. If i go further, i see it happening way often and this is without obstructions. It even makes a difference, if im looking towards the Router or if im turned around by 180 degrees. Dont feel the difference, but its dropping more often then.
@MrTeeF11 ай бұрын
You owe me 10 bucks. 😅 I've done tests with it on my desk inches from the router. Still not stable. I only demans that a products functions as advertised. And if its not reaching full speed it's simply not working correctly... this is a known issue and Meta and TP-link are working on it.

@rebsdioramas11 ай бұрын
If you want optimal performance then you need that router unobstructed. I have a Fritz!Box 7530 as my modem, router & WiFi, even on the opposite side of the wall to that I'll easily lose 400mbps of speed which drops me under 500mbps in the headset, the wall is plaster with no insulation. Having your router tucked away will degrade the signal and the further you are the worse it'll be, it drops off pretty quickly. The higher the frequency of the signal the easier it is to degrade with obstructions and distance, even a cardboard box over the top of the router will cause a big drop in performance. The AXE75 being only Gigabit NICs isn't fantastic either for keeping high performance, ideally you'd have 2.5gbe from the PC to a 2.5gbe router or access point with a good quality Ethernet cable. Anything thing people often forget. Most of the VD devs who recommend the AXE75 are in the USA, USA hasn't got much in the way of restrictions when it comes to wireless output of devices like routers so the power pumped out of the antennas of routers, access points etc. In the USA is much more powerful than the rest of the world. If your in Europe especially they really clamp down on the power antennas can pump out so you'll have a worse performance with the recommendations from the VD devs than other people. This is clearly teething problems for the Quest but other things will factor into it as well. It does seem to be people outside of the USA having the biggest issues with WiFi though.

With the latest update of v.60 as per January 15th it looks like software issues are improved again. Where I before could not get a full signal even inches from the router, it now shows 2401/2401 Mbps at 1 foot from the router. (Occasionally dropping to 2100 but generally stable). Unfortunately moving back 3 meters to my desk, it drops to 1900. So at that point, I feared it was no longer faulty software, but as people have pointed out... poor design and antenna placement. But luckily Meta refuted this claim and said they are still working on the issue.

TP has put in a lot of effort testing this, and so fare the Quest 3 and Pixel 7, equipped with the Quallcomm XR2 gen2, are the only devices not working correctly. The have concluded its a driver issue, and Meta is actively addressing it. Other routes like Asus routers are also affected. Wifi 5 seams to be working the best. If you scroll through the 780 replies on the Meta forums, you'll see that it's more than just a router replacement concern-it's a broader issue in progress. I'll put a link below.
I have the exact same combo pretty much, same router, quest 3 , and a 3080 with 5800x3d. And seeing the bit rate drop in 1400s as well with v60 update. But its playable now. Sometimes my latency does spike in 70ms though, not sure why. As well... i had my phone connected to the same 6ghz 6e channel and i think that was messing with VD quite a bit. Now, that only quest is there, its way more workable... I had never tried playing HL:Alyx with air link tho... not sure if its even doable.
@MrTeeF11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, as long at this bug is pressent you need to be dedicated. Mening only the Quest on your 6G net. Also make shure your using H.264+. Even with a 3080 (3090 in my case) games like HL:Alyx needs all of the GPU. Killing prosesses like clouds, anti-virus and game optimisers (which for some reason almost always makes VR games work worse) can help with framedips and Latency... But apparently peope are experiencing some inconsistencies in preformence as if it depends on the mood of your network that day. Again something that will be eradicated as soon as Meta fixes the drives to give us a stable baseline of 2401Mbps. ;)

No ideer... don't have one. But the Quest 2 has a solid stable 1200 Mbps.
@JeffreyBlakeney10 ай бұрын
I still think you are chasing something unobtainable. The 2400 speed is the MAXIMUM transfer speed. Wireless will never be rock solid. The higher frequency your WiFi, the more solid objects will interfere with it. You have your router on a shelf completely surrounded by wood and have what appears to be a large brick column in the middle of your room. Other electromagnetic signals can also affect WiFi as well as other devices requesting the SSID of your router using up some of its processing time. Also, as distance increases, transfer rates decrease. I still don't know what that utility you use is measuring but I do know that many programs that measure transfer rate average the amount of data transferred over the last so many seconds. As you only need to transfer data for each frame of video, it won't be sending data constantly, it will send, stop, and send again. This could easily explain why that utility's rate fluctuates. I've only had my Quest 3 for a month and even on a 5 GHz signal (with the router on a metal shelf with metal legs; I'll be fixing that soon and upgrading to an 6 GHz at the same time) I've had very little problem other than fast changing images causing some stutters (like in Beat Saber). I just attribute that to the compression/decompression of the video or the transfer of those frames (because they didn't compress as much) taking too long. I'll keep an eye out to see if you ever getting it working to your satisfaction but I won't hold my breath.

I am always on 2401 with my radix axe6600 on 6ghz channel. Have been with v59 and I still am with v60. My assumption is: your wifi is placed unfavorable. The position in the sideboard prevents a proper line of sight between your Q3 and the antennas. Furthermore a higher placement would help. Have you tried this before?

Thanks for your comment. I've previously done tests with the router dedicated on the desk. It's a known bug with certain routers. Meta is working on it.

@@MrTeeF I dont know man... if i google it, there is no confirmation. The sources i opened all led back to you. More importantly: The guys over at Virtual Desktop recommend the axe75. I asked them if they heard about these issues (since i remembered Guy uses the axe75 himself). They dont. Quote " it points to an issue in your network environment" .

Just because you don't have an issue doesn't mean it isn't there. There are literally thousands of routers out there and if you go check out the occulus forums last I checked there was over 60 pages of people complaining about this issue on just 1 thread.

I dont understand i play on wifi 6 not 6e 5ghz at 1200mbps connexion rarely goes to 1080 mbps even saw some 960mbps but effective encoding bit rate is like you at 274mbps. Game run smooth every things seam find. I dont se the issue here even if it's fluctuate still work find to my eyes. Maybe i miss something i tough that if you have more wifi mbps you will get more encoding mbps to. Obviously that is not the case so what is the point to have wifi 6e?
@MrTeeF11 ай бұрын
Just stability and freedom to move without interference or framedrops. You don't need more than 800 Mbps to have usable wireless play. But you will get a compressed image quality. 1200 will give you grate quality. Main problem is consistency. VD or Airlink will have problems keeping up with estimating the best compression if the speed of the connection fluctuates grately. V59 fixed most of this by loweing negotiation rates. But we still don't have a baseline of 2401Mbps and therfore it's simply not working correctly.

I got 2000mbps and it's a stuttery mess. My old router that would get 200 to 400mbs was smoother lol.
