I think my top 3 are autumn eternal, roads to the north and honestly the rime of memory. But I really love and again into the light, Kentucky and social disservices as well. Awesome you’ve come around on panopticon man.

Panopticon #1 is a 10/10, #2-8 are 9/10, #9-10 are 6/10, and the debut hasn’t clicked with me, but I’ve been meaning to give it another shot, so I can’t give it a score. Panopticon is one of my favorite black metal bands, so I have lots of thoughts, like I could rant about Kentucky and Scars II for quite some time, or praise the rest for hours. Maybe I should make my own video.

Never knew of this band (then again i'm still pretty new to exploring black metal) everything you said about Kentucky just made me wanna listen to it even more and i'm really enjoying it. lol definitely can understand why you wouldn't like it. but i'm loving the combination of black/bluegrass. and thanks to your channel, i also really got into Ahab, Almach and Leviathan.

My fav is and again into the light, one of the albums that got me through lockdown (ironic considering the band's name lol). Great pick. They're playing the roads to the north from start to finish at fortress next year 😮

I've never got into Panopticon, I should like it but it doesn't quite do it for me. Waldgefluster do an incredible cover of 'The Pit', I've listened to it an ungodly amount of times, and only found out it was cover today 🤯

Agreed about Kentucky. Was my first Panopticon album and I didn't really like the music even though I liked the ideas. Liked the rest of their discography more.

Panopticon is amazing and is one of the best American black metal bands. Austin Lunn is a genius who combines bluegrass and folk with black metal very well. He doesn’t have a bad album, to me even the weaker ones have enjoyable moments. Here would be my ranking: 10. Self-titled 9. Collapse 8. Social Disservices 7. …On the Subject of Mortality 6. Panopticon has better produced, more musically polished works. But the raw emotion displayed on Kentucky is hard to beat. The trilogy of Kentucky, Roads to the North, and Autumn Eternal is perfection.

I haven't heard their whole discography. I've heard everything since Kentucky. So from those ones my big 3 are Kentucky, Rime of Memory and Autumn Eternal. I think Autumn Eternal is my fave possibly to be overtaken by Rime of Memory with more listens

I think Kentucky is a great album, but it's super rough around the edges, and definitely not my favorite. I actually don't like Autumn Eternal much at all for whatever reason. My personal favorites are the double album and Again into the Light.

It's interesting that you enjoy folk infused European black metal, but you don't like Kentucky. I'm not going to convince you to like bluegrass, or Kentucky. As an American who doesn't listen to a lot of bluegrass, I do at least have an understanding of its cultural and historical significance. And, in my opinion, it sounds great when paired with USBM. It's like the bourbon vs. scotch debate. Bourbon is rough around the edges, but undeniably American. In my view, Kentucky is a contender for best USBM album of all time.
