Question 124: Who are the 24 elders in the book of Revelation?

When I looked into this a while back, I came across some pretty interesting things. First of all, the word used in Revelation 5:10 for "on" the earth, could also be translated as "above," or "over" the earth. But more than that, it struck me that they (the 24 elders) were in Heaven at the Throne before the first seal was opened. In context of Revelation 5:9 they were actually singing about His worthiness to open the seals. I'm not going to point them all out in Scripture reference, but they also are described as having all of the promises Christ made to the 7 Churches to the OVERCOMERS: white robes (Righteousness), Crowns, reigning, pillars.... In 1 John 5:4 (same guy who penned Revelation) we see that an overcomer is one who believes in Christ. But we should also keep in mind that these 24 as well as the 4 beasts are from every tribe nation and tongue and are Redeemed by the Blood. I know I do not have it all completely figured out, but I'm fairly confident these 24 elders are the Body of Christ. And the 4 beasts, I do not think they are 4 actual animals but 4 different groups of people, like maybe all those babies who died before "age of accountability" is one of the beasts. Maybe another beast is all those OT saints (Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Adam, Job, and so on...remembering that "He is not the God of the dead but of the living.") I don't know, but it is all a very interesting subject and study.

Also, I do believe "24" has some significance but I don't know what it is, but I don't think there are only actually 24 people sitting as elders. I guess my big "hang-up" is the fact that these 24 elders, and only the 24 elders have all the promises (crowns, white robes, thrones,escape tribulation...) that were promised to believers. Were Crowns promised to any of the Jews? IDK. The 4 beasts don't have crowns. Maybe that is because one of those beasts is those Christians who let someone "take their crown" from Revelation 3:11 ???? IDK, but interesting stuff.

The Book of Revelation is part of Israel's prophetic program. The Body of Christ was only revealed to Paul. Paul had no part in writing Revelation. So logically, the Body of Christ is not found in Revelation. The Overcomers are those who overcame the temptation to take the Mark of the Beast.

@@ginaidoma4368 Yes, except Christ gave John instruction to write about those things "past, present and future." Revelation 1:19 The 7 churches were in Asia (Revelation 1:4), it was also the Churches in Asia that left Paul's teaching. 2 Timothy 1:15 Maybe these letters to the Churches (in that PRESENT time) are Christ's warnings to get right doctrine (back to Paul's teaching) before it's too late. Revelation 2:5, "remember from where you are fallen..." according to Paul, we fall from Grace by trying to be justified by works. Galatians 5:4. "Repent and do the FIRST works..." according to Paul, the first works are faith in Christ (Colossians 2:6) and that is how we are to live. The just shall live by faith. I understand the book of Revelation is written to the last days Jews. But those 7 Churches were not Jews...not from any record that I can find. I stick with my scriptural support for the OVERCOMERS because as I pointed out in detail, those 24 elders have all those promises of those who overcome, and no one else in scripture was ever promised all of those things that the 24 have. And they were at the Throne before the first seal was ever even opened. It makes sense to me, that only the Body of Christ can be the overcomers and in Heaven before the first seal is opened. Correct, it wasn't written to us, but it can speak a little about us. It wasn't written to the ac, but it sure has a little written about him.

(Rev,,5) there is something like a CRYSTAL GLASS SEA in front of the Throne .... When a sea (in scripture) is not localised e.g. (sea of Galilee .....) then it refers to a multitude of people ..... You can hide a flaw in a Diamond .....but the smallest flaw is magnified a thousand times in CRYSTAL stemware ... The Crysta Glass sea is none other than the ,, without blemish ,, blood washed ,, saints of God ,, THE CHURCH ... They join their representatives the 24 Elders singing the song THOU hast redeemed us by your blood , from every Kindred ,tongue and nation ,, and have made us Kings and Priests in your Kingdom ... This song is sung before JESUS opens the first seal that ,, releases AC into the world and pours out GODS JUDGEMENTS on those who rejected JESUS ....

@@bugsocsollie1694 You must understand that what Jesus gave to Paul...the Mystery of the Body of Christ...was NOT revealed or made known in other Ages. It was not even hinted at in any of the prophetic books. A person can not mix the prophetic books with the mystery books...(this is where preachers and teachers go wrong) and have the Bible make sense. The Body of Christ is composed of Believers, in the Age of Grace, who are saved by faith apart from works in the finished work of the cross...the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for ALL sins. Those Churches found in Revelation are not forgiven of all their sins....so they can not be part of the Body of Christ.

Just listened to your teaching. What about the four beasts? they were included with the 24 elders singing a new song. Also in verse 9 it says they were redeemed out of every kindren, tongue, people and nation. This wouldn't fit with the 12 tribes and 12 apostles as they were all of Israel, not of every nation, people and so on. ??? This Berean thinks it's confusing! Is this explainable? Thanks for the teaching. I've learned much from you.

Paraphraising - The mother of "the sons of thunder" come to JESUS & ask that they be permitted to sit on eight side of JESUS when he is on the throne of his glory. His reply is curious, I'm not sure how to word it. Not sure if the answer is yes or no. BUT James was the 1st to go to heaven as one of the twelve & John was the last one called home. So James on his left & John on his right? This is my canadates for part of the 24 thrones.

The 4 beasts and 24 elders were said to be redeemed to God by the blood of Jesus Christ, Rev. 5: 8-9. This is a symbolic picture of the "bride and her court" which represents the two highest levels of reward in the kingdom of heaven. Notice in verse 11 that the number of them is said to be ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands. The reason this is symbolic of the Bride and her court is because Angels aren't redeemable. Only three groups of beings are mentioned in verse 11 . . angels, beasts and elders. If this number were literal, then there would only be 28 redeemed individuals out of the (100,000,000, plus thousands of thousands) of beings that are represented in that verse. These then, must be symbolic of those members in Christ in this dispensation of grace, who, were taken through the "open door" and into the marriage, Matt. 25:10, Rev. 3:8, Rev. 4:1. The reason this can't be OT saints is because they forfeited the heavenly portion of their inheritance, Matt 21:43. The remaining members of the body of Christ, the Church, is seen around the Throne of God in Rev. 7:9, as the multitude that no man could number. These were the foolish virgins represented by the believers in the Churches of Thyatira, Sardis, and Laodecia who were not ready when the Lord returned. Jesus even warned the Church of Philadelphia against someone taking their crown, Rev. 3:11. The Philadelphia Church were the overcomers, the "faithful and wise" servants that Jesus spoke of in Matt. 24: 45-47, who He said He would make to be ruler over ALL his goods. God bless! Phil. 3:14

The body of Christ is clearly not part of the 24 dispensationally. The OT saints couldn't be the 24 elders as they are in Abraham's bosom and haven't ascended into heaven. Which means John is viewing what is happening in the third heaven in the Father's bosom. Try looking at it from a fourth perspective. Hebrews 8:4-5 King James Version 4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: 5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. The earthly kingdom is fashioned after the pattern in heaven the Third heaven. These elders where there before the foundation of the world. They were eye witnesses of the making of the heavens and the earth. That is a big Hint. Also, don't assume when someone or beast (another hint) sings a song that they are singing about themselves. Lamb wasn't slain for the four beast who are also singing the same song. They could just simply be leading in song about those who are saved by believing in the Lamb. Just some interesting thoughts.
