A guy can ask the best questions in the world, with her answering and doing all of the talking - but if she doesn’t respond by asking YOU questions and showing reciprocal interest you are wasting your time.

Thanks for this video. I'm autistic so I am always trying to improve my conversation skills. The conversation elements were really helpful in general, and I have not seen them presented quite like that before.

I realize that this video is over a year old, so you might not see this comment, but I still wanted to leave it. Your advice is wonderful, and your presentation is great. My wife and I have been married for 25 years, and everything you said in this video are things I already know but don't think about as much as I should. We get complacent when in a relationship for a long time and tend to treat people in our home differently than people outside of it. As I watched your video, I thought about my own behavior and how I've become a little too comfortable. When my wife wants to talk to me, I'll pause the TV and give her my undivided attention. Yet, I hate to say it, but I will sometimes let my mind wander and not respond with the respectful attention that she deserves. Your video was a gentle reminder to me to behave towards my wife the way I know I should. Thank you for that.

Great advice here. Remember to make eye contact. Talk less, listen more. Ask open ended questions. Just repeat what she says and add additional remarks. Always make the conversation about her. Women love talking. The only thing they love more is talking about themselves.

This video is def true. Anything on how conversing matters? Most times i startup a convo but usual responses are less than 3 words at most. But when he brings up I do ask questions even though I’m not interested. Used to anyway. The only back n forth we have are the usual finances, his hobby, sex….

@caitlanv, you are close. Questions at the beginning of a conversation can put someone on the defensive. A better approach is making empathetic statements initially. Once a rapport has been established, active listening is key. If you really want to get them wet start sprinkling in assumption statements. i.e. I bet you're getting excited reading this comment. 😉

Caitlin, I've been watching your videos for a couple months. I've enjoyed watching and learning. It's been really great watching you and your videos professionally grow. Lighting, backgrounds, video photography. Watching you personally grow from when you started these videos. A few years back your presentation skills took off like a rocket. I'm guessing a presentation coach was involved. Being a highly intelligent woman you probably figured out much on your own. The audience is drawn in with your animation, hands, face, body, voice. No monotone voice here! Some times. Very few times, your low wisper voice is challenging to hear. Examples given create a visual for listener's to see what your saying. Selfdiscolsure adds to your credibility. Thank you for providing accurate information. Women of the world are very great full. Sometimes I watch just for your presentation. Watch a second time to really hear the message. It is so nice to listen to a professional speaker.

Looks like I'm doing fine in the questions department, especially if the other person says interesting things. If not, it's better we don't talk much so I can talk to more interesting people instead. However, its still rare these days tht you get to talk to actual "new people" in person.

There is a balance bewtween being conversation and seeming to be nosey or conducting an interview. I was brought up not to be nosey, so find it hard to ask things. In my experience, people tend to volunteer stuff amyway. I don't get many dates and I'm certainly not successful with women. Er........!!!

Holy cow! One of the most dreaded questions to ask in a long term relationship is, "what do you want for dinner?" "I don't know. What do you want?" "I don't know either, that's why I asked you." "Well, I don't know." Rinse. Repeat a thousand times. Sounds silly, but I suspect this is how long term relationships & marriages begin to unravel. So, maybe a video on keeping a long term relationship from going stale?

Don't ask what do you want. Make a suggestion and what she thinks. " I was thinking of this Thai place, what do you think?" It gives her something to agree with or rebuttal. Remember, when you ask what she wants, you're being nice. She is being nice as well by letting you pick. Then nobody picks. Just start with an idea, that way at worst, you have a place to go with no song and dance.

Let her know you have a solid career and place , so you don’t look like a bum and ask about hers. Have a rose or her fav flower delivered to the table during dinner.
