0:11 What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the church today? 10:12 How do we speak to the need of church members to return to the church in this COVID culture? 12:48 Can you address the doctrine of faith alone in light of James 2:24? 19:08 Is repentance an aspect of faith or a good work? 24:23 Is it the Scriptures that change us as we read and ponder it, or is it the Spirit that changes us as we read and ponder the Scripture? 28:23 Several members of my church hold to the continuation of the sign gifts of tongues, prophecy, and healing. How would you lovingly persuade them of the orthodox position that the sign gifts were no longer given after the canon of Scripture was completed? 38:24 How and when was the canon of Scripture established, and by who?
@Shabeck1003 жыл бұрын
Great Q and A time. The answer on "sign gifts" was especially enlightening and freeing for us who live in these (closer to Christ's return) last days since Christ's ascension. We have the objective written Word to expound by the power of the Spirit. No sign gifts/foundational pointers needed...they have ceased.

Thank you for so many great answers. I loved the example that people cannot see our faith but they can see our works that we are doing because we love and serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So easy to explain now. I am close to someone who believes very heavily in the signs, especially healing. She believes we are not healed if our faith is not strong enough. I Loved you bringing up the verse that we are blessed because we do not see and we believe. Thank you gentlemen for a lot of wonderful insight.

The Holy Spirit is the one who brought Thomas Watson and his book, “Kingdom of the Cults”, into my life to get me grounded in the Word. At that time, I was challenged by a Jehovah witness and the questioning that caused great doubt about Jesus and who He was and is. The Holy Spirit took me from Genesis to Revelation along with Watsons book. Today I’m so thankful I know my Word and my loving Savior. I love your answers for they are grounded in Gods word.

28:24 That was such a vague and wandering answer from all three... Brother Steven even went to say that prophecies were nursery and infant talk? Isaiah? Jeremiah? Ezekiel? I would've love to see Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones there present...what a blast! I mean seriously, apostle Paul always talks about Wisdom and Discernment together with prophecies (and he also say that we should seek to prophecy! Hint to brother Steven!) So (quoting Dr. Martyn) I guess if prophecies ceased with the apostle's era, than wisdom and discernment also ceased!. And yes, I'm a reformed Calvinistic Christian!

This is where our "desire" gets in the way as to what IN THE SCRIPTURES already revealed and fulfilled in THE REVELATION OF THE MESSIAH - our Lord Jesus Christ. All prophecies, all tongues to be spoken of is in the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST - his crucifixion and all the sum of it, multiplied for the world to LOOK ON, SEE, HEAR and BELIEVE. Prophecies are ALL IN THE SCRIPTURES - THE WORD OF OUR GOD spoken by and did so by His SON Jesus Christ taught, revealed to us by the HELPER Holy Spirit. NO MORE, NO LESS.

In the 16th chapter of John we are told: “I came out from the Father and came into the world. Again I leave the world and I return to the Father.” In these four short phrases we find the pre-existence of Christ, his incarnation, his death, and his ascension. I could put this in the first person, plural sense and say: “We came out from the Father” for we are told in the 1st chapter of Ephesians: “He chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” So all of us were chosen in him. That is why I can say, “We came out from the Father and came into the world. Again we are leaving the world and are going to the Father.”

I love these Q and A's but unfortunately the huge gap the "church" created by its dearth of teaching biblical truth...one of which is ALL men are created equal and allowing the "church" itself to practise partiality and politics has led even Christians to hear other voices that vocally respond to the issues of the day where the 'church' is silent or dismissive.

GOD IS NOT RELIGION. I AM NOT RELIGION.
@mattjacobson51233 жыл бұрын
Religious structures, denominational organizations, and churches that men built are the ones "yielding the high ground" to the culture, not so the Church Jesus said he is building. That Church - His Church - is doing well - in fact, the gates of Hell will not prevail against it, as the builder of the one true Church said. Where you see a church caving to the culture, you're not observing the Church that Jesus is building. There is only, ever one Church and Jesus is its Head. So, when you see your denomination going by the wayside, when you see religious structures being more like the world, recognize that you are not observing Jesus' Church in dire straits. His Church is alive, well, and seeking the unity spoken of in John 17.

This is a WAR folks - what in the world are you sitting around and talking about your brain’s activities as you attend a conference that should have been called the “Ain’t It Awful What The Others Are Doing” Conference! Faith in Jesus as our Commander in Chief (now that He’s Rescued us from sin and death) is the Lifestyle to be LIVED through watchful prayer and Trusting and Obeying at every moment and in everything.
@ReLair88 Жыл бұрын
I was saved and started attending a Reformed church (the pastor was nationally known) and he preached against the gifts. "Infancy stage"? "Immaturity"? "Limited means of communication?" Wow. Thankfully, as a brand new believer I went and checked the scripture again after his messages, and I had already experienced words of knowledge which came true (which led to people being saved in both cases), so that my Reformed pastor's preaching could not convince me. You are stripping the Church of God's power. The only passage that even comes close to saying gifts will cease, which you are completely misinterpreting, says they will cease when we see Jesus face to face. Read the passage. I am not saying there are not abuses of gifts...Paul was speaking about the abuses in I Cor. But that does not invalidate the gifts. "Why would we want direct experience?" Wow. It's as if you are saying that you believe in a supernatural God, but the only supernatural thing God does today is save people. Totally limiting God...putting God in your little theological box through inadequate understanding of scripture. Is that the way you want it to be? You don't WANT Him doing anything supernatural?

@@HearGodsWord Yeah it’s such a shame that reformed theologians have decided that God never speaks to anyone ever. Be clear on this: They have decided that the following people were lying to themselves: Augustine, Aquinas, Francis, ALL of the ancient Christian’s who spread the Word from 100 to ~400 AD who are known as the “church fathers”, and *every* other great Christian for 1500 years. Every one. These people say we’ve all been wrong. Every single giant Christian martyr and sage was wrong. Until 1500 when they finally figured out for us that in 70AD there were no more supernatural gifts of the spirit (casting out unclean spirits which Derek Prince covers, hearing the voice of God. hearing anything about the future, speaking in tongues, revelation). This idea that the supernatural gifts have stopped is a heresy known as “cessationism”. The worst thing about the modern church is that otherwise great men like MacArthur, etc etc are spreading this aspect of scientific materialism. Because those are the exact types of grounded people who are needed to bring rigorous practice to this so we aren’t deceived which is easy. Because people fake it and get confused themselves. Takes effort to listen without ever getting goofy or superstitious. Grounding needed. Peters sounds just like a mocking arrogant atheist up there. And left out many key verses. “Canonical” does not necessarily equal “God Spoke”. Want the proof? There are DOZENS of times God spoke and gave prophesy that never made it into scripture. All it says was “and many of them prophesied”, stuff like that, on and on. Christ said much that never made the canon. No one here claims God is revealing Canonical new scripture to them. These teachings are evil. I find it no coincidence that it comes just when scientific monist materialism is strangling all thought in the West. They say God withdrew and is not involved in the world and in our minds, in ANYONES minds, clearly in actual words. Just a positive feeling and a wise book. Based on a verse that finishing the Bible is “the perfect” when reading what the perfect is... shows that is a fundamental huge change that clearly didnt happen a few years after that letter (1 Cor). What they should be saying is that it should be grounded and all wise men throughout history have insisted on sharing and checking what they are hearing from God with other wise people and that it never contradicts scripture.
