Just wanted to tell you how much I love the show and how refreshing it is to see fellow Canadians talk about cars. Besides nationality, I find the topics always relevant and interesting too, which can sometimes be tough to find these days on KZbin. I'm a Canadian living in the Los Angeles area and sometimes miss my Canadian brothers' and sisters' accents and looks. Glad you're doing what you're doing and keep up the great work!

I used to sell a lot of rust proofing as an add-on when I sold Toyotas ironically there was a page in the warranty book that told you NOT to get rust proofing. One the main reasons is that when the rust proofing when sprayed in the doors it can clog the weep holes at the bottom of the door, and water will lay at the bottom of the door and not drain.. also water can get trapped in between the rust proofing under the metal and create rust

I would be very wary of VW Canada warranty. My experience is that they look very carefully at any small print that will get them out of covering a warranty claim. Love the Gti ... Less so the company.

The dealership says this because by the time the rust starts your out of warranty by time or mileage. My F150 & suv have been sprayed by krown since new & not one rust spot. Lol the Ford galaxy has not been in Canada since the mid 70's 😅

I absolutely agree about the Ford Flex. I rented a loaded black/silver ‘Platinum’ one (with the better power plant), it was one of my biggest surprises. It was fast, handled and was exceptionally comfortable/spacious. It was a vehicle that had ‘love it/hate it’ looks, but it was a vehicle that needed to be experienced (a proper test drive). Very overlooked. Though now… when I see one, it was clearly evident that Ford wasn’t investing enough into ‘rust proofing’. As for the Santa Fe? It looks damn sharp! But now every time I see one… I’ll see a Ford Flex (thanks Zack). Great episode, as always.

Gap insurance is far cheaper from an insurance company than through a dealership. If you get this insurance in Ontario I highly recommend getting it through insurance, which also allows you to move to another brand unlike the GAP through a dealership.

Sorry you guys were cold while filming. You may know that a gas car's heater uses heat from the engine. When you turn the car's engine off, the engine is still hot. So you can activate your car heater in accessory mode and the residual hot air from the engine will blow out of the vents even with the engine turned off. Mercedes actually will do this without turning on the accessory mode, instead you just push the 'rest' button and heat fills the cabin while parked. Love you guys and your awesome reviews!

I like your car wash comments. I use the DIY power wash place. I spray all the dirt off the car first time around. I then take that dreaded brush, use the power washer and spray the brush removing any possible road crap that may be stuck in the bristles and then go over the entire car. Never had a problem with it. It’s really no different than what I do at home… snow foam the car, spray it off then use a micro fibre towel to wash down the car. If you are careful and do it right…now problems. My don’t is never take a car through a car wash with the twirling brushes…😮. You have no control there.

14:08 My understanding is that the with modern engines the oil pressure is pretty much instant; someone once said that the time it takes you to put on your seat-belt is how long it takes to get oil pressure up, "warming" as we knew it is unnecessary, the best way to warm yup an engine is to just drive slowly with it it under load. However the engine is still in cold-cycle mode because it has to warm up the catalytic converter for emissions, which is why the fast idle lasts for a few minutes or longer in cold weather. With a PHEV, my concern is not if it's warmed up enough, but if the engine has run hot enough for long enough, so that stuff like fuel wash from the direct injectors into the oil is evaporated off, or that moisture in the exhaust is driven away.

Great show guys. I agree about the Santa Fe. I think it’s the best looking car Hyundai has produced but I’m partial to boxes on wheels lol. I had 2 Ford Flexes. An 09 and 13. I loved them both, the 13 had every option available. It was probably the most reliable car I’ve owned. I still mildly regret trading it to down size to my 21 bronco sport badlands (which has so far been just as reliable). Never understood why ford didn’t hype the Flex more and I agree that if they released it now it would do well

I live in northern Illinois in the United States, I found a product that is fantastic for rust-proofing, it's called PB blaster surface shield, which came out a little over a year ago, it sprays on as a wet oily coating, and within a week turns into a light waxy coating that you could actually rub off with your finger, and it's dry, so doesn't make a mess, it is great, not only does it get rid of surface rust where you sprayed it, but it has fully protected the underneath of my car in harsh winter. only $10 a can where i live

Excellent question and answer about a PHEV set-up in cold weather, which means in most places in Canada, for people who only drive 5-20 km trips, you should never only drive in EV mode in the winter, about 1/3 or more of the year. Not only does this mean little to no fuel and emissions savings, it means the average driver, who won’t know or pay attention to this information, will be harming an engine, shortening the vehicle’s life, meaning earlier trade-in, meaning buying that PHEV in Canada will be worse for the environment than a normal ice car! Another example of why EVs make no sense in colder climates.

When I ordered a Prius Prime last fall, they asked if I wanted "their" rustproofing which is a waxy, thick coating they glop all over things that don't need glopping. Naturally, their system is the only thing they recommend (hugely overpriced, btw). Since I keep the body very clean (and I always order white vehicles new) I told them no. I did Krown my 2023 Maverick hybrid because there have been rust issues reported on Mavericks and my regulary Krowned 2008 Ranger is completely rust free (Ontario winters too). I expect I will turn down the overpriced Toyota glop system and Krown it anyway. The holes are not drilled indisriminately by Krown - only into voids where rust can begin. Of course, the Prius may never arrive so the whole issue is quite hypothetical at this juncture.

Oil-based rust proofing (Rustcheck or Krown) changes the colour of the cabling, which impacts emergency services’ ability to save you in a collision (the “no cut” cables). Edmonton, Alberta’s Sublime Surfacing and first off-shoot Honey-Seal of Oakville, Ontario use a permanent wax-based rust proofing that does not impact the cabling. Check them out.

Having sold and leased out new cars for many years, I want to warn your customers of leased vehicles - just because you don't own that ride, doesn't mean that you don't have to properly wash and maintain it. Our leasing specialists always carefully check over every lease return for any damage that is beyond "Normal wear and tear". I have seen multiple customers dinged at trade in time for scratches, door dings, curb rash , dirty carpets and upholstery, and worn tyres and brakes... the list is as long as there are systems to criticize in the vehicle.. Unless you are returning a car that has been perfectly maintained, without any visible scratches, dings or dents, and with over 50% tread left on the tyres, the dealer will find things to charge you for. Check your lease - you as the leasee are responsible to maintain the vehicle in exemplary condition at all times.

The foaming brush is good if used properly. High pressure off the gritty dirt first and spray off the brush because you don't know what the last customer used it on. The brush is for the film that usually doesn't come off with just high pressure, unless you wax your car often. If you hand wax your car often then all you need is high pressure.

Good show today. As for the insurance on a regular car. As a driver of over 40 years i can honestly say IF you are a good driver 1-2 million is a reasonable amount, 5 million is way to much at least if you live in Calgary (Although Calgary has some seriously bad drivers). If you are a bad driver. Maybe? Definately in Calgary get full coverage of some sort. I always make sure to have a replacement car if your car is in the shop (as long as it is not you that damaged someone else's car) so that you are not put out when your car is being repaired.

As a general rule, manufacturers don't recommend rust proofing yet remain quiet on the subject because they know it's one of the dealership's F&I profit centers. Why would anyone allow a dealer to drill holes in their car thus breaking the bond of the paint and zinc coating to the metal? I have witnessed rust appear at the site of the drilled hole and the manufacturer won't cover it. Also consider this, rustproofing isn't applied by the highest paid mechanic in the shop. It's exactly the opposite. It's usually done by one of the guys from the clean-up bay who waits for the mechanics to go to lunch so they can use the lift to apply the rustproof material. So the customer can't be certain of the competency and training of the person who drilled holes in their car and applied the material. Finally rustproofing your vehicle will bring ZERO dollars in extra trade value especially if a customer is prone to trade every three to five years. Finally just know rust proofing is not listed as a "value-add-on" in Kelly Blue Book, Black Book or JD Power (NADA). Just say "no" to this overpriced dealer add-on.

Rust Check, Krown, Corrosion Free 3000, or Fluid Film are the best types of rust proofing available in Canada. They are all oily type products that will seep into the cracks and crevices where rust starts. Anything that is labelled as "wax" or "rubberized" or "asphalt" type product is absolute garbage that WILL ruin your car. Dealership undercoating at time of purchase is a rip-off. Those electronic "rust prevention modules" are also a rip-off.

@@andreaspencer9813 Yep, I caught on right away. The way in which Zach speaks (obviously intelligent), to someone that doesn’t really get American accent? Really?

Audi Q3 is less than a Mazda CX-5 Signature or GT Turbo. Over-priced German crap by comparison.

Same with my plug in hybrid. Don't forget, a warmd (or cooled) cabin via the phone app, before you go outside.

Exact reason why I didn't get the MDX Advance. I simply added the upgrades from the Advance trim that I wanted to the Technology Package. Heard and seen too many problems with air suspension from all manufacturers in general. It doesn't matter how expensive your vehicle is, they all have these chronic issues. I have a friend with a Mercedes and on a regular basis his air suspension goes haywire.

Air suspension can be a problem in winter places too, a friend has a Ram with it, it was at the dealer a lot in the winter under the extended warranty, now with the warranty done he’s going to convert it to the stock suspension. A company in Saskatoon does a thriving business selling conversion kits for Jeeps and Rams with factory air suspension.
