12:05 Regarding Volvos, we have owned 4 Volvos in the last 20 years, an S80, an XC90 and we currently drive a 2015 Volvo XC60 R Design and a 2020 Volvo XC90 R Design. All have been exceptional vehicles and very reliable. We have been in accidents with our Volvos and what piece of mind to have driving the safest vehicles on the road. The only caveat to is you must do the regularly scheduled maintenance at the dealer and be fastidious about it. It’s expensive and some people may not like it but when these vehicles are maintained properly they are bulletproof. Highly recommended Volvos.

When I first heard this a month ago, I went into the Lexus app for our 2024 NX350h, and found it in settings. I was able to contact Toyota/Lexus through the app, and tell them that I do not want my data sold. They sent me a response email saying that I have opted out, and my data will not be sold. BTW, yesterday I walked into a Mazda dealership and ordered a Mazda CX 70 with the 3.3 Turbo S. Ordered Rhodium White with red leather. I’m looking forward to it. I hope I enjoy it more than my wife’s Lexus NX350h.

The key to carrying golf bags without having to fold down the rear seats is a long cargo area/trunk. Therefore, the best types of vehicles are sedans and wagons, which have longer cargo areas compared to crossovers.

Many insurance companies in the US offer a tracker you install in your car. The positive side is that if you drive within certain parameters, you can see a discount on your insurance of up to 30%. If you are an aggressive driver, this would not be a wise option in my opinion. It adjusts the cost of each vehicle separately. It can also tell who is driving the vehicle by the app installed on the individuals phone. This is a good tool if you have kids and they raise your rates due to their driving habits. If you so choose you can consider charge them the increase in insurance costs. We currently are trying this out through State Farm, and we have saved hundreds of dollars each six months over the past year. I will be honest the three drivers who use this are pretty mellow drivers. There is some leeway built in as well. I don't know exactly, but I believe you have about 8 mph over before you get a percentage loss. Also, If you are having an aggressive day or have an emergency stop to avoid an accident your percentages will drop but they will start going up again if you drive non aggressively for awhile. This is definitely not for everyone but a viable option for the mellow drivers looking for an additional discount. You also need to weigh the the fact that Big Brother is watching over you as well. I just wanted to post the other side of the coin based on our experience. I am sure others have had positive and negative experiences.

I wish I had more confidence with Volvo. If I did, in my ‘Dream Garage’ (realistic one)… I think that I’d wouldn’t mind having the epically gorgeous V90 Estate (fully loaded, including that amazing $3,200 Bowers and Wilkins sound system). About the small pickups (the Rangers and S-10s from the 80s-90s), there is a demand for them! -- note the huge demand for the Maverick. Car makers in the US discontinued these little trucks due to CAFE standards based on wheelbase and fleet fuel economy requirements. In the US, we cannot sell imported little trucks due to the "chicken tax". Ironically, an unintended side effect of CAFE is that we're now stuck with much larger trucks that get poor fuel economy, unless car makers do something similar to the Maverick and offer hybrid and EV versions so they hit the fleet fuel economy requirements.

My insurance company wants me to opt-in to providing my driving behaviour (I always decline) and now I wonder if the Hyundai BlueLink app is providing data without my knowledge. It was valuable with my Ioniq 5 EV but not so much for my Tucson hybrid. I may just delete the app if I don't use it anymore. I see no concern in unplugging a SIM chip but never throw it away. Reinstall it if you go to sell the vehicle. I think it's wrong that you don't own that SIM chip only the rest of the vehicle.

I expect most of us don't like it in principle, but more specifically because we know we do things from time to time that the insurance folks might ding us for. I don't accellerate fast or brake fast 98% of the time, but I do tend to drive faster than the limit, moving right along with the rest of the traffic.

But I should also add, there wouldn't be room for 3 bags and carts to be loaded sideways. You would have to lower one of the rear seats and put the bags in lengthwise. So 3 people with bags and carts could be loaded. 4 people, nope. Hope that helps.

Re: Volvo reliability, my '21 XC60 T5 Momentum has had two minor-ish issues, a failed City Safety sensor module that was replaced under warranty, and prematurely worn brake pads that the dealer replaced as a courtesy. No issues otherwise at 22,000 miles. I'd recommend a '20 or '21 model with the base T5 powertrain, which with its proven turbo-four and Aisin transmission should remain solid outside of warranty. T6 and T8 models are more powerful, but add complexity that may prove expensive in the long term.

When I called asking about this I was told that when I get my oil changed, the mileage information was being sent to another company who then sells it to my insurance company. Hybrid over EV. Most people don’t realize what the STRATA/Installation company charges to install an EV charger in a parking spot. I live in North Vancouver, cost is $4100 per unit/parking spot. $3875+taxes and fees. PLUS, the installer keeps all rebates. Strata rules say parking is “Limited Common Property” meaning they own it, you have the right to park in it. THEN you have to pay $20 per month for the active MANAGEMENT of your charger, this is for the company and calculates your usage and bills you separately from your B.C. Hydro bill. Don’t like these rules? No EV charger for you.

Interesting topic… in Canada about 5 years ago they introduced an app to allow you to be monitored for your driving habits. However it’s not designed for normal driving. It would give you a bad score unless you’re going extremely slow, at least 10-20 below the city speed limit and braking or accelerating extremely slow. You could opt in to get this app activated on your insurance and potentially reduce your insurance costs. I didn’t but some people are getting reduced rates because of it. But they could also increase your rates especially if you had a bad rating and had an insurance claim. The person reporting this would definitely had opted in to the service or feature. You need to grant someone access. Typical though people just agree to services that they don’t understand

Toyota Prius Prime !! My friend bought one, it’s interesting to know the ICE will run at first (hybrid mode) to warm up the engine which means it could run longer in the colder weather, before the car can run in EV mode. Prius owners are also told to not over charge the battery. 80% is better then 100% for everyday driving so that means the EV distance is 20% lower in real life. After I found that out I would prefer the Hybrid only model as it gets better mpg then the Prime when in hybrid mode anyway. Why pay all that extra money for the Prime?

My friend in Germany has a loaded 2022 Mercedes PHEV C Class AMG wagon. It was €82,000 (tax in). It is really nice. Over 110km on a charge. His brother in law has a 2023 GLC AMG PHEV and it was €90,000. Yikes. The C wagon isn’t even 4matic.

I've reached out to my VW salesperson. I really don't like the idea of this as a possibility of them tracking our information and selling it. Hope that is not the case. following along for updates as well. Keep up the great work. Did you cancel your VW app too?

Connected services.. damned if you do damned if you don’t. Some used remote start in cold weather. Emergency crash notification. Stolen car tracking.. selling data to insurance companies bad…bad

if they are gonna put they insurance higher based on the data then the reverse should be true and they put it down as well if your data is good. Which I'm sure they aren't doping

In regards to your recommendation for the Outlander PHEV, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't this the vehicle that had major problems this past winter when the temperatures dropped out in Western Canada? They wouldn't start and the dealers told customers to "tow it to some place warm"! Not sure this deserves a recommendation.
@andreaspencer9813
@andreaspencer9813 Ай бұрын
We reported on that in our Outlander PHEV review recently. Temperatures need to drop to around -20 degrees celsius. We had it in Vancouver and it was quite cold here -12 degrees celsius and we had no problems with it starting. Mitsubishi took action right away and has done a software update to improve on this. Although it's not as cold now, we'll have to wait until next winter when temperatures drop again, viewers who own one are telling me they are seeing some improvements such as the engine not coming on as much after the update.

Your phone sends way more data to brokers than your car can. Everything we do is tracked and logged. A car doing the same is the least of our worries imo.

A x3 phev costs the same as a prime. Cheap af. If I needed a phev I would get that. A 54k x3 phev is rly rly cheap. Compared to Audis the q5 phev costs over 80k Canadian

Ikr x3 phev is rly good, for 54k your getting a phev luxury suv. It’s rly great for the price. Better than a 65k q4 etron suv, 73k q4 etron sportback and a 64k model y performance. Honestly the x3 phev and the ford f50 lighting are both rly good for the price. The f150 lighting starts at 60k and you’re getting a ev truck.

Small collisions on new cars are far more expensive to repair these days. Cameras, radar adaptive sensors, parking sensors and fancy headlight systems have increased insurance costs. Add car thefts, ev right offs, fraud and wildfire claims are all reasons for insurance to skyrocket.

I think the B2000's were made by Mazda, unlike the last gen B-series (1994-2009 B2300, B3000, B4000) which were rebadged Rangers. I really wish Mazda made a successor to those trucks, and the Mazda5.

We only have one insurance company in BC, it's called ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) and it has held a monopoly on car insurance in BC for over 46 years. It's ridiculous.
