AWB has to be the most underrated and under appreciated band of all time. The groove of the drums and bass, intermingling of guitars and saxophones, those vocal harmonies.

Ferrone is the MAN! I grew up in chicago in the 70s. I started drumming at 10. The live person to person wax got worn out. Love his style. Intro beat to big city lights. Badass! Thank you quest for talking to a drum icon. Thank you Steve for being my SPARK.

Great job once again Questlove, I’ve managed to check more of your interviews during the holidays and enjoyed this one immensely, I forget that Steve is actually English, what a life he’s lead, and an engaging story teller as well. Respect to that man…!

Steve is still a hansome man. Hot in his early days. Would have love to hear more personal stories, such an interrsting transition in history. Thank you for doing this, I know it can be really hard to just listen at Questlove level.

Great interview! I enjoyed it altogether, and especially the part when he talked about his Prince moment and their " ... my guitar gently weeps" performance. Of course *we* (the purple crowd) know there were so many more, even greater, Prince guitar solos, than this one, but it was one of those moments of recognition. 💜[+> Keep bringing on these interviews with these beautiful souls of music, Quest. Much love and respect from Germany!

I was introduced to Steve’s style through the Brian Auger’s album Straight Ahead. His drumming so fitted the music, it was captivating. Then I followed him to AWB. I met Steve by accident as we were both staying at the Hotel du Cap, Antibes, south of France. We happened to get talking next to the swimming pool and I had no idea who he was. He said “my name is Steve” and then the penny dropped. Some years later I needed a new snare drum for my rather large kit, and I purchased the Pearl signature Steve Ferrone and it was so beautiful!

I'm a bassist. AWB had TWO FIYAHHH bassists trading off, and then Steve?? Still to this DAY, his TIGHT snare/hi-hat thing is unmistakable.

I'm also a huge fan of AWB since 7th grade - Steve Ferrone is indeed one of the BEST drummers in the game. He's up there with Funk Brothers Benny Benjamin, Robert "Pistol" Allen, and Uriel Jones, Tony Thompson (Chic/Power Station), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), and Dino Danelli (The Rascals). Not to mention the drummers with James Brown band.

I find it too funny that he made it a point to bring up a rap group/song that was left out of his introduction, he said "you forgot one, AMG...Janiene, The reprise" ...the song is actually titled Once a dog.....and it's a "nasty" song...that happens to be his favorite lol. I dont know why I got such a kick out of that 🤣🤣🤣

I heard him say Michael Jackson wanted electric drums on the song. He told MJ listen to what you are saying. Electric drums on a song about the planet. So they agreed to do both electric and his normal kit. I think MJ agreed the natural drums sounded better so they went with it.
