I believe had Qui-Gon Jinn not lost to Darth Maul, he would have been the one to save Anakin from the dark side. He was the chosen one for Anakin, as Anakin was the chosen one to bring balance to the Jedi.

Everyone looked at Anakin Skywalker and said "damn he needs some help." and no one ever did.

Talk about hitting the head on the nail! You're so right! Again & again several saw, noticed or sensed that Anakin went through things. And they afterwards just let it slide. The greatest example of all is in AOTC. Yoda sensed Anakin's pain of loosing his mother. It's not clear exactly how much in detail Yoda actually sensed what happened. But regardless if Yoda knew that the pain was because of the loss of his mother or the murder of that entire Tusken tribe, NO ONE talked to Anakin about this once the battle of Geonosis was over. Not Yoda or Obi-Wan or anyone else took Anakin to the side & even asked him how he's doing, or what happened. Yoda sensed an emotional Dark Side outburst in a Padawan, the strongest they have, in his Jedi Order. And he did nothing. Did he even ever inform Obi-Wan about it? We don't know. But, if we just go by the films alone, Yoda didn't. Palpatine knew what happened because Anakin felt he could approach this politician about it! And there is something terribly wrong when the Jedi Order can't even have an efficient & working support system for its own members when a Padawan turns to a freaking politician to clear his conscience instead! If Qui-Gon had been around I am confident that Anakin had felt a lot more secure with turning to him for help, support & just having someone to talk to. It's very fascinating to see Obi on the Kenobi show again & again reach out to Qui-Gon for help & advice & support, because he clearly remembers he once had it back in the day, but he never could provide that same need to Anakin. Anakin absolutely praises Obi-Wan for being a great teacher & mentor & even sees him as an older brother. But he also, again & again, says that Obi-Wan never listens, never understands, is constantly over-critical. Even if Anakin was maybe exaggerating those things we all still know this was the very problem. Obi was excellent at teaching Anakin being a Jedi but failed in teaching him to be a good person. To feel safe. That Anakin felt he could not confide in Obi-Wan says it all. Padmé suggested in ROTS that they should ask Obi-Wan for help, Anakin constantly declines her request. Because he knows, or at least he believes, they will not get help but only criticism. Anakin needed to be controlled. But just discipline & never a recognition is not the answer. The tragedy of Anakin is a great example of this.

Literally EVERYONE tried to help him. He almost murdered his own wife when she spoke against him. He was a troubled person who got way too much leash just because he was powerful. But everybody tried to help him in one way or another, he just didn’t want anyone’s help. He wanted everything all at once and when he couldn’t have it, he tried to take it by force. Anakin made those choices, no one else made them for him. He could have stepped away from the Order at any moment he wanted. People should stop divorcing Anakin from his choices.
@Imylover
@Imylover Жыл бұрын
@@logicaldude3611 You describe Anakin within the time of ROTS, & there you are absolutely correct. But most of us here describe Anakin long before that, when there was still a lot of time & ways to see the signs & step in & help him. And it is THEN basically nobody did! Or they did but not enough by a long shot or the way that truly would help. There is NO excuse that no one ever confronted Anakin about his rage & feelings & doings with the Tusken camp. Yoda knew, did nothing as far as we know. And there will never be any excuse for that. Of course is Anakin fully responsible for his own choices & doings. But there always was plenty of time to save him & help him long before ROTS when he totally stopped listening, when the Dark Side took hold. Yes, he could have left the Order at any time. That I totally agree with. But he was also surrounded by many Masters that all SHOULD have done better for him, especially when he was still a kid, which he was in AOTC. And since he was a special case they should have treated him as such, kept an extra eye. But the Jedi didn't. If people are defending Anakin it's because there are reasons to. Not for his terrible actions but for the help long before then that he should have had every right to receive. What is otherwise the point of having teachers & Masters if they can't do their job & duty?

One of my favorite examples of the love issue involves a Jedi named Jolee Bindo. Jolee fell head over heels for a woman. He loved her, married her, and even took her into the academy. But then she fell to the dark side during Exar Kun's war. Jolee admits that his love blinded him, and it got people killed. But he didn't go "oh the jedi are right", he instead thought it would be better to TEACH love. "Controlling your passions while in love, that's what the Jedi should teach you, but love will not destroy you. In the darkest of times, *love can save you.*"
@Imylover

I've always been very fond of the scene on AOTC when Anakin, Padmé & R2 are on route to Naboo from Coruscant & Anakin explains the whole attachment rule to her. And what I love about Anakin's answer is that he gives her his own interpretation. "Compassion, which I define as unconditional love, is essential to a Jedi's life. So you might say that we are encouraged to love." This very thing, which is Anakin's own opinion about this, is what ultimately ROTJ is all about! That very same compassion, that unconditional love, that makes his son, Luke, to see beyond the mask & cloak of his Sith Lord father & see Anakin Skywalker within. That same unconditional love that is what gives Anakin the courage & strength to break free of the bonds of the Dark Side & Palpatine's control over him & save his son from death, even if it means his own death. Anakin's redemption is unconditional love. THAT is how you beat the Dark Side! The very first time I ever saw AOTC back in 2002 these words from Anakin made me grin ear to ear. And I thought to himself that this young man just spoke of his own redemption right here, to his future wife & mother of his children, one of those being directly involved in this unconditional love. Not all in AOTC is BS & bad writing, not at all if you understand what Lucas was actually saying. Also, the fact that Anakin has this opinion all on his own, he reached this conclusion about compassion & what it means for a Jedi, is directly linked to why he is the Chosen One & the Prophecy. And that he fulfilled this prophecy in the end. I strongly believe that Anakin was created as the Chosen One to guide the Jedi to a more loving path, the path that Qui-Gon firmly believed in as well. But the vast majority of the Jedi just wouldn't hear it, or didn't understand that change was needed. Avoiding love does not keep the Dark Side away, it invites it in.

@@sharpshot6111 No, they would not. However, there is a movie called Return of the Jedi. Perhaps you have heard of it? According to its writer & creator (& co-writer as well) George Lucas, SW as a whole & ROTJ in particular is about Anakin Skywalker's redemption. That is the very word Lucas has used for nearly 40 years now, redemption. And the guy who runs this KZbin channel 100% agrees with this as well, its the very reason why he is SW Theory. SW is a fairy tale, the biggest IP in modern cultural history. Ever since we just had the OT it has always been described by most as a redemption story. The point is that it's not Anakin's countless victims that forgives him. It's us watching SW that is meant to forgive him. SW is told to us, not to them.

This is why Qui-gon will always be my favorite Jedi of all time. Even he knew that some laws and rules of the Jedi were ridiculous in the sense that the codes they set go against the very nature of what they are. Instead of mastering control over their emotions and allowing normal emotions to be a part of them, they just focused heavily on detachment which only enforced the rise of negative emotions that specifically drawn dark side influence. Their codes that they made essentially set them up for failure and prevented any of them to fully reach their potential because they locked away essential emotions that would fuel them and of course took away some of their humanity they had. For protectors of peace they did a horrible job maintaining peace within themselves and the Jedi. I guess that’s why only few force users was able to achieve Force ghost form aside from being taught how to do it and why few of them even used some light side abilities that others had because they cut out the thing that essentially makes them whole. Jedi should be in touch with their emotions always but not give in completely to it and especially the bad sides of their emotions like love turning into obsession and stuff like that.

Exactly!!! If I we’re to sum it up: The Jedi ignore their emotions to their detriment and the detriment of the galaxy. The Sith embrace their emotions to their detriment and the detriment of the galaxy. A TRUE Jedi recognizes emotions as part of themselves, both the good and the bad. Qui-Gon is a different breed altogether. A very special Jedi who understood not just the force, but human nature, in all it's beauties and flaws, on a level most of his Jedi peers could never bring themselves to grasp or teach among their own, or were just too ignorant to understand, given their prestige. Poor Anakin needed a man like Qui-Gon more than anyone else to seek guidance and confide with, as he'd have truly listened and understood his struggles more so than even Obi-Wan, who I'd argue simply abided too rigidly to the Jedi's often virtuous yet close-minded teachings and outlook, especially towards human relationships, sometimes to an unrealistic degree.

It would be perfect with a second season of Kenobi were the fundamental underlying theme is for Qui-Gon and Kenobi to together finding the answers to how to support Luke into becoming a jedi without making the same mistakes as with Anakin who fall to the dark side. And through that get the answer for what happened when Vader killed Kenobi. When looking at Ep IV Kenobis behavior always hints an underlying plan, ending up in himself letting himself be killed by Vader in front of Luke.

The thing about it is that possessive love to Lucas is what attachment actually is when he defines it in interviews. Possessive love, which Quigon viewed as the issue, is what Lucas has defined attachment as. George has stated that the Jedi can love but not to the point of possession. Anakin wasent wrong for loving Padme, but he by mouth of the creator had an issue confusing compassionate love with possessive love. He wasn't content with merely loving her, he married her and saw him in TCW being jealous and possessive many a times (especially with Clovis). I honestly don't believe that Anakin would not have fallen if Quigon was around still (which Dave believed), simply because the issue with Anakin in the end was his own selfishness. His visions of Padme dying were just that, visions, they were not concrete. He reached out for help while hiding the actual truth of his fears, but nothing could have been done regardless. Padme was fine medically speaking and no amount of force healing would have saved her, because the thing that killed her in the end wasent illness but Anakins own decision to sell his soul and the galaxy's fate to save her. The reason for Anakin's fall was his attachments and his inability to let them go when needed. Obiwan and Quigon's force ghost discussed the matter in Master and Apprentice. Anakin despite everything was a fully fledged knight and fought valiantly for years, his training was already complete,. He had the wisdom and power to make the right choice, but he didnt.

Jedi don't allow love because offspring. It's too hard to keep track of all the force sensitives that could turn to the sith. Jedi was fearful of sith fear led to anger anger to hate and hate to suffering and not detecting Palpatine

i believe if he was alive to train anakin. he would of steered him away from the dark side. obi-wan is a great jedi, be he wasnt ready to take on a padiwan, especially one so old. he did the best he could but he didn't find his way until luke was nearing of age.

Didn't the Jedi ban romantic relationships and other attachments because time and time again Jedi would turn to the dark side when they lost someone? And it worked, there was peace and balance for 1000 years before the clone wars and the sith's reign was very short in comparison.
@joxyver

They fell into the dark side because they were not trained to control their emotions on what is love and what is passion/Obsession. And let’s say that when they fell to the dark side it was probably because they wanted to seek revenge which would help them open their eyes and realize the actions they took to get to that point would be wrong and ultimately adjust themselves. However what probably happened was that at this point the Jedi were becoming to skeptical about the emotions and the connection to the dark side so they would forbid or prevent vengeance and or any way to absolve the personal conflict of the victim, thus leading them to a darker path since those who were in the light refused to help the individuals. A sad truth that the Jedi refused to believe was that where there is light there is always dark, and they tried to ensure that only light prevails by putting these codes and rules which yes worked for a time, but all it did was make the dark side itself stronger, more cunning and most of all, gave them opportunities to slip into the cracks of the Jedi and corrupt some of them from within to spread their influence. Balance is key for the Jedi, and with that balance between light and dark side is ultimately what would be proven time and time again as such examples as Mace windu, Anakin skywalker, Luke skywalker (at least in episode 6) and Galen marek “Starkiller” and many more from even Star Wars legends that would lead them being the most powerful users of the force and saber while protecting what mattered to them and even the galaxy itself.

They had a 1,000 years of peace because the Sith went into hiding. As for the Jedi Order’s part in it?: Their position led to a 1,000 years over which the Jedi slowly lost their connection to the Force to the point that they nearly stopped listening to it for guidance and such that even their strongest and wisest could not fathom that they were taking their orders from a Sith Lord whom they meet with regularly and all it took to bring the Order down was to ditch their charter to be peacekeepers and an emotionally troubled young Jedi afraid of personal loss that any level headed father figure or a good friend or a counselor should’ve been able to help straighten out if they cared enough to listen, really listen, when the boy came to them for help or guidance.

@@joxyver didn't George Lucas say that balance in the force is the light side as it is the dark side that corrupts it and sends it out of balance?

That's because of ideology within being a jedi. It's about ideology and belief not skill/power. Qui was unique as he, had a different perspective on what it means to be a Jedi. Something Mace and yoda disagreed with.

There's a horrible issue of Star Wars Tales where Qui-gon explains to Obi-wan why jedi are forbidden to love, the reason was really stupid and Qui-gon acted incredibly out of character, he seemed to lecture to Obi-wan that jedi shouldn't love and suported it, if you know Qui-gon Jinn at all you should know that, that's not what Qui-gon would say to Obi-wan or anybody. The good news is the Star Wars tales comics aren't cannon not just to Disney cannon but neither to Darkhorse cannon either, so it's all good.
