Quick blast in the V6 MX5

Want to hear what a Rocketeer swapped MX5 sounds like on the move? I don't have great equipment for recording audio, but did my best to capture the amazing noise from the Jaguar V6 engine.

Thanks for the support. I'm currently trying to get the VVT working. Just order a wideband sensor and controller to swap out the narrowband sensor. Never ending project :)

I commend you for a great build. Am not sure if you did, but if you plan on exceeding the speed limit in Mexico, do so on your own, not with children. Was difficult to gauge speed, but there were a few hard launches, lets say it overspins, breaks traction and smacks a wall, tree. I do not want to spoil your project or be an arse, just saying is a beautiful naive child, having a lot of fun, but it is not a park ride. °cheers°

Great video. Can I just ask Is it better to have the limited slip diff fitted for this engine conversion?

Not "better"... ESSENTIAL.

It's a shame you couldn't get the VVT working, since it allows you to rev it even higher without running lean, but it's better to have a streetable car in the end than to have a never-ending project that just keeps kicking you when you're down.

On the road it makes very little difference in real world driving, so I just decided to enjoy the car and stop obsessing over getting the VVT working.

It's a 360 degree camera and a long selfie stick. Camera is an Insta360 One X.

Would you do it again ? What's your short list of things that you might do differently ?

Probably. This is still the best option if you want to retain the entire drivetrain. Most other engine swaps require a stronger gearbox, prop, diff, drive shafts, hubs, etc. Things I'd do differently is mainly around checking the engine is good before installing, and not just assuming that it was running OK that it's healthy... I learned that the hard way.

QUESTION: can you build the v6 aj30 with just the jaguar engine and the ecu from the jaguar? Or do you really need the rocketeer kit?

There's no way you'd get the Jaguar ECU to play ball with the MX5 wiring. If you were handy with the electrics you could probably get a megasquirt to work with it.

No. Was exact same spec, so kept the mapping the same. Car is sold now and lies in the UK.

5 or 6 speeds ? final diff ratio ?

5 speed. Can't remember what ratio the diff is - it was an LSD from a 1998 mk2. Might be a 4.3?

How much would you say this cost you start to finish?

I made some upgrades that didn't strictly *need* to be done, but are sensible, like upgrading the brakes to mk2 sport brakes, and upgrading to an LSD. I also got the rear subframe, wishbones and anti-roll bar reconditioned. Suspension upgraded to Meisterr. Interior and wheel mods. I also had to buy 2 Jag engines, as the first wasn't great. So it's a difficult question to answer. The kit costed £6000 when I bought it, but I believe the price has gone up since.

Has anybody twin turbocharged this engine yet would have mad acceleration from low rpm

Not to my knowledge. Would be very expensive and would make more sense to V8 swap it at that point.
