Today we are making quick bread which is a bread made without yeast! For this bread you will use baking powder instead of yeast to make the bread rise. You can also make this bread with self-rising flour if that is all you have on hand. It is so fast and easy to make and you can use it for virtually any variation, savory or sweet!

I made my first loaf of bread in my whole life tonight with your savory recipe. I added one tablespoon of fresh thyme. It turned out so delicious I wanted to cry. Perfection. Wish I was making this many years ago!

I LOVE this recipe! I made a loaf today!!! Sooo easy and delicious. I sprinkled a few Quick Oats on top of the batter before popping into the oven. I used Self Rising Flour and added about 2 TBL granulated sugar to the flour. YUM!!!! Hot out of the oven with some sweet cream butter! Perfect. Thank you for this recipe

Loved your video. My husband bought Home self rising flour by mistake and I wasn’t sure how to handle the difference between self rising and all purpose I’m glad you added it to your video.

Such a great recipe to have on hand when we're all stuck at home and the shelves at the store may be bare! Thanks so much for going into such great detail about everything anyone could wonder about, especially the conversions (that way we don't have to look them up!) Personally, yeast intimidates me, so this is definitely one I will be saving! Keep up the great work! 💛😊

I made vegan banana bread with your recipe. I used self-rising flour, three flax eggs, vegan butter, and almond milk as substitutes. It turned out great! Thank you!!!💓

Hi. I loved your chocolate cake and tried it. It was very delicious! My kids loved it so much. Even the edges or corners are moist and not dry. Even though I lessen the sugar, it still turned out perfect! 😊 Thank you so much for sharing your recipes. I also want to try your quick bread recipe hopefully soon. I'm still able to buy bread but...I suddenly want to make bread! My first try (Irish soda bread with milk/vinegar as a buttermilk substitute) came out dense as a hammer 😅 Thanks also for the weight measurements. I prefer that over measuring cups.

You might have over-mixed it.. It's very easy to do. Or else it was too dry going into the oven. Soda bread doughs are a lot softer (ie wetter) than yeast ones.

@@justme9818 Hey thanks! I think the problem was the amount of flour. I used a measuring cup and sort of packed it in there as I was getting it out of the bag instead of leaving it loosely packed. I plan to use weight measurements in the future or just to be more careful 😁

I'm typing this comment as I'm devouring the last bits of my first attempt. It turned out really delicious, "can't-wait-for-it-to-cool-down" type of delicious! :) Thank you for sharing this simple recipe (and special thanks for adding the metric measurements, that was really convenient for me), I started baking less than a week ago and this is a great foundation for future experiments. I can already imagine how it would taste with chocolate chips :D

I just today discovered you, and I love your presentation! ♥ I'll be going through your sourdough lessons very carefully because as of today I am the owner of a brand new baby sourdough starter. As yet unnamed. But I do have one little question about quick bread--have you come up on any recipes that create a quick bread that's good as sandwich bread? Replace the eggs with equivalent vegan egg replacer. I have found that EnerG Egg Replacer yielded the best results, but flax or chia egg will also work.

I'm sorry. I don't know if water would adversely affect this recipe or not. Can you get your hands on some instant dried milk? I hate it for drinking, but use it all the time for cooking & baking. Great staple item to keep on hand. Quite inexpensive, too.

Great recipe! Made mine with coconut oil and it gave it a sweet and slightly coconut flavor. Just enough to taste it. I'm not a fan of coconut, but this was amazing. How can I make this recipe denser. Like a banana bread?

You can reduce the milk or leave out an egg to make it a bit denser.

Excellent tutorial. I actually, successfully, did it and I can't cook at all ! One question, is there any way to make the savoury version moister. It's great with something on it but with just a bit of butter it's a little dry. I used self-raising flour and I was short of one egg. Otherwise followed the recipe slavishly. Many thanks (from Australia).

Eggs add a lot of moisture to your bakes. I suspect that was the reason it wasn't as moist as you'd like.

Okay, I just tried the basic savory bread, using lowfat milk and olive oil. I was thrilled with the results! It made a lovely large loaf with a beautiful golden color, and for a basic bread, it had an amazing taste. I took mine out of the pan as soon as it was done, and let it cool for about an hour. Then, because I live alone and didn't want any of it to go bad before I could eat it, I sliced it and put it in several freezer bags. However, much of it was still warm, and it began to fall apart and crumble. Would you recommend: A. Either letting it cool for a much longer period of time, B. Slice as needed, instead of pre-slicing, or C. Other? I plan on making the sweet version tomorrow. If I get a reply before then, that would be stupendous! Thank you for this recipe. 😁

Hi. I would like to incorporate sour cream in my base QB. Maybe 1/2 cup or so, would this replace some of something or just be additional. I find when ever I use a recipe recipe with sour cream it’s a nicer texture and seems to stay moist better. Thx

This is a lifesaver especially now because of the lockdown, here's my question, if I follow your recipe and I happen to have only baking soda, should I put the same amount or should I measure more/less? Thank you and may your channel grow

If a recipe calls for a tablespoon of baking powder, you’ll want to substitute with a teaspoon of baking soda. You’ll also want to add 2 teaspoons of vinegar or lemon juice to your batter, just balance the liquid from the mixture by reducing elsewhere OR use 1 teaspoon of baking soda, mixed in with 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar if you don't want to add additional liquid to the mix....but that addition of an acid such as the lemon juice, tarter or even yogurt is critical or the bread will taste acidic 😥☺

So can you use the dry milk as a substitute because milk (any of it) is getting hard to find on occasion

Add water to the dry milk according to package instructions and you can absolutely substitute it for regular milk. I love to drink my whole milk, so I prefer to use the reconstituted instant for cooking and baking. I daresay if you are not a classically trained French pastry chef, you will not be able to taste the difference. Much more economical, too. 😉
