Quick CD Player Fix, Trick for player not reading CD's

It's March 2023 and I've struggled trying to fix a cd player of mine and this fixed it!

I have a boombox that I bought a year or so ago and it worked with many of my old CDs and even home-made ("burnt") ones. Then the CD player would not read the brand new albums out on CD that I'd buy. It will still continue to read the ones it had 'read' before. This issue was baffling and I can't tell you how many sites and pages (scroll scroll scroll) of 'advice' from others I had read before coming across your video here. I tried your tip and it worked right off the bat! Finally a solution worked, just as I was about to give up entirely researching this issue (I would stop researching for weeks at a time and return to trying to find a solution online somewhere). Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to provide the tip!

Fixed my problem! My Panasonic boombox from 2002 was dropped and might have misaligned things. It failed to read CDs until I tried this method. Although I was hardly able to move the lens on mine and it did feel like I was going to break it. I managed to move it a tiny bit and I stopped forcing it when it felt like it was going to break. Anyway it now works and plays CDs again! I think moving it even for a tiny bit puts whatever that was misaligned or out of place back to its original place. Thanks again for this video! :)

OMG. This really worked for me on my desktop portable CD player. The laser assembly was all the way towards the center. I used a ball point pen to nudge it two click stops towards the outer edge. If this is not a permanent fix, I will try it again. THANK YOU !!!

I bought a radio cd player from goodwill. It wasn't playing the cd. Then I tried your method. At 1st it didn't work. But I kept on pushing the laser up and down and it made a clicking sound. Most likely u were right it was a lil jammed. Then I played with the cd door itself after I tried ur method to make sure it was closed correctly cuz I saw that could be an issue in another video and wala!!! It worked!!! I can concurr that if at 1st pushing the laser door up doesn't work. Check the door of the player if it's closing correctly. I just thought I'd share my experience fixing it after I saw your video!!! Also the manual says if the cd player doesn't work right away, leave the cd door open for the unit to dissipate. I'm thinking that means to let air out or something. But thanks for ur video I didn't want my purchase to go to waste!!

Wow.. after watching the video I thought I will try to unscrew everything I can and apply wd-40 to the (supposed) gunk making the laser/lense stuck... but I have no idea where I've put the wd-40 so I did exactly what you've showed and it solved the problem right away. THANK YOU. Oh and the Meters are a fantastic band, props!

On a portable CD player first try changing out the batteries to fresh new batteries. I had a CD player/radio, the radio worked but the CD player did not recognize a CD in it. I thought it was busted until I found the electric cord and plugged it in, then the CD player worked. So I put in new batteries and the CD player worked. The old batteries must have had enough juice for the radio but not enough power left to play CDs. Simple fix to try.

I’ll be damned. Fixed mine instantly. I used a lens cleaning cloth so as to not touch the laser directly and it moved easily. Thanks!!

I just want to thank you for this video! For years, I thought my Sony boombox, CFD-E90, DVD player was broken. This tip worked! I have to tell you I was planning to sell it and I was researching prices on eBay. I noticed that many of the same Sony boomboxes were listed as having a CD player that did not work. That was from my searches several years back. I went on after seeing your video and I noticed that, almost all of the Same Sony boomboxes on eBay today were listed as all working well. Almost none of them had listed as having a CD player that did not work. Just wonder how many of them were because of your quick repair. Lol! Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Didn't work for me. I have this boombox with CD, MD and tape player that just arrived. Will read TOC if I put the player on its back so that the CD mechanism is vertical (with lens above the spindle). I've tried moving the lens like you describe but it doesn't work. Worth a tr.

Try what I did, as thank G-d it worked for me! I pushed the lens all the way to the center to where you pop the CD on and then just push it back where you'll hear it click once and that is very slightly away from the center. If that doesn't work then try one more click away from the center. Of course, do it with the player off and unplugged and then plug in and try the CD again

I have a Sony walkman cd player. The round part where the cd sits on doesn't spin so good. Tried spraying wd40, it's still won't play cd's. Says no disc.

I have a COBY cd player model CX-CD236 that has a working radio, but it doesn’t play cds. When I try to play a cd, it spins around but plays a weird sqeaking noice when it does. I tried using the method you did to fix it but it didn’t work. Do you know why? Sorry if this is too vague
