Thanks for the thorough instructions and approach. Your video is the only one I've seen demonstrating with both size lockrings. I have yet to see someone else, actually use a torque wrench, gloves or wipe down the disc. Excellent attention to detail.

Great video. Very well demonstrated and explained. I used it to help install a cassette and a pair of rotors on a new wheelset for the first time.

Thanks a lot for the video! I just got my bike and felt like centerlock is a bit loose, and since I did not have the tool I went to a local bike shop. However what they did was do the same procedure without the torque tool, which I realized only now. I hope it's safe to ride

I'm glad you found it informative. I would absolutely keep on the center lock nuts. If they haven't been torque to spec. 6 years ago I was on a ride with a good buddy of mine who had done the same thing, and it turned out he didn't apply enough torque by hand and his rotor started rattling in the middle of the ride. It was a TOTAL fluke that on THAT particular day there was a bike demo event on the that trial and managed to find a tool at the specialized booth in order to fix it. People think they are accurate by hand, but it not until you test your self against an accurate torque wrench where you realize how off you really are.

@@zoubtube Thank you for the quick reply :) I guess I'll ask around, maybe somebody/somebody's dad has got this kind of thing. That's a really stressful situation I guess when the rotor suddenly starts rattling... By the way how I found out it's loose - I was checking brakes after I got my bike and when the rotor was completely fixed by the brake pads, the wheel could move around 1cm in both directions. Now it doesn't do that, but my back wheel has just a couple mm movement.

Thank you for the video sir. I would like to know why two different style lock rings? I’m a completely new to this bike building process.

apologies for the delayed response but we're still out of power where I live. The axle diameters are different between the front and rear wheel. Front wheel axles are typically 15mm, rear wheel typically 12 mm. The caps are not interchangeable between them. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Do you have a link to the wrench you use?
@zoubtube

The Torque wrenches are the Snapon ATECH2FR100B (high torque specs) and the ATECH1FR240B (low torque specs). Personally, both are overkill as they are meant for the aircraft industry so if you don’t have other needs for these torque wrenches I can’t recommend spending the money on them, unless you buy them used. Plus, these are tech angle, which adds to the cost and isn’t needed for most torque needs. Regular torque wrenches are all that’s needed. A precise low torque spec wrench ex: 12- 240 inch lbs, would be more important imo as most torque specs on mtb’s parts are on the low end. Let me know If you have any other questions.

Thumbs up, mate ! What Maxxis tyres are those ? I need one torque wrench who can do 40Nm, at an affordable price. Can you recommend me a torque wrench for this , please ? Thank you !

So I'm a big fan of snap on torque wrenches. They are by far the most precise and reliable torque wrenches on the market. but they are expensive. A more cost effective option would be a Tekton imo. they make good quality tools for the money. What you might want to do is buy a lower cost torque wrench such as a Tekton, then get it tested for accuracy. If you happen to live in an area where snap on trucks regularly go through, they can quickly test it for accuracy, in the truck, at no charge. This will give you an idea how close to accurate the wrench is. just take into consideration that NO torque wrench is 100% accurate.

My cassette tool isn't fitting over the dust cap over the axle, is there a way around this? (Can't pull it out bc it is locked behind center lockring)
@zoubtube
@zoubtube 5 ай бұрын
My sincere apologies for the delayed response, but I'm WAY behind on personal stuff. It sounds like you need a cassette tool with a longer reach. Different companies make them at different depths. To remove it with a different tool, you can damage the lock ring, as most of them are made with soft metals and are installed with high torque specs (typically 35 to 4nm). You might want to consider buying a deeper cassette tool. Paying extra money for an extra tool sucks, but they aren't all that expensive, and it should take care of the issue, now, and later.

Hello. the tool to tighten the outer nut, the black one, the round one? thank you

For the rear wheel lock ring, any cassette tool will work. For the front wheel lock ring, any 16 notch tool like the park tool BBT-69.4 will work. let me know if this isn't' the info you were asking for.

An idiot question friend, can't the same lock ring used in the rear be installed on the front wheel?
@zoubtube
@zoubtube Жыл бұрын
Not an idiot question at all myman and better to ask. The axles between front and rear wheels are different sizes. typically 15mm for the front and 12 mm for the rear. this is the reason there are two sizes for lock rings and they aren't interchangeable. Hope this helps

Newton meters not Nano

To funny. I had to correct myself with captions for saying nano instead of newton in most of my first videos. Being in the IT profession for 30 years, nano is literally burned into my nano sized brain! 😁
