Nice quick quilt and a clear tutorial. Thank you. Just one quick comment on terminology as I understand it: "finished" =the size of the block after being sewn into a quilt; "unfinished" = the size of the block after being sewn as a single block, i.e. it still has 1/4" seam allowance on all edges.

@Mama_iza_Fan22 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, you need 2 one-yard cuts. If you were to use 2 yards of the same fabric, you could just piece it like a backing fabric and quilt it together. It would resemble a whole cloth quilt instead. Take care.

@Mama_iza_Fan22 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! If you noticed, when I cut the block pieces on the rotating mat, I only had 2 layers. One of each color. Try not to cut to many at once. As a beginner, it can be a challenge, but 2 layers should be fine.

You did cut 4 at a time. Not many people have a revolving mat. Cheers

What is the double edge and single edge? I missed something in the folding process?
@Mama_iza_Fan22 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and posting your question! When you buy fabric off the bolt, it is width of fabric that is folded in half. To fold it again, take a 1 yard cut by the folded edge and bring it to the selvage edges. When you do that, you will have 2 selvage edges (double edge) and 1 folded edge (single edge) along that side. I hope this makes sense. Please watch my video that explains width of fabric. This may help you understand what I am referring to. You can find it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpmxhqaJh5tknMU

Beautiful quilt blocks. Thank you. I have a set of 3 yard quilt material. Can you show us something like that ? You are good. Again, thank you.
@Mama_iza_Fan23 күн бұрын
Hello! Thank you so much for watching! With 3 yards, you can make this same block. You would just use 3 colors! Cut your yardage as twelve 10-inch blocks each. Stack one of each color together, make your cuts, move the top square to the bottom and sew. You can make a quilt top with 5 blocks across and 6 down. It will be BEAUTIFUL! Let me know how it turns out!

Are you sewing with a half inch seam ? You said your seam had taken up an inch of your square
@Mama_iza_Fan23 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching! No, we always use a quarter inch seam. The reason why it takes up a half inch, is because you have sewn 2 pieces of fabric at a quarter inch. 1/4 +1/4 =1/2. I sure hope this makes sense. Always keep in mind, when you are finished sewing your blocks in the quilt, they will be 1/2 inch smaller than they were as individual blocks.
@janeanndouglas923123 күн бұрын
In your video you said it took up one inch, not 1/2”. And I believe you said the finished block was 9”. I made this block with 1/4” seams and my block finished at 9-1/2”…
@Mama_iza_Fan23 күн бұрын
@@janeanndouglas9231 Yes, I said it took up 1 inch because we have 2 seams. Each seam takes up a half inch. I think you may want to check your 1/4" seams and make sure they are not 1/8". Some machines need to have their needle moved in order to achieve a 1/4". If you watch the video, you will see me measure the block. It is supposed to finish at 9 inches. If you need any tips on adjusting your machine needle to get that quarter inch seam, check out my video "New to Sewing? How to Sew a STRAIGHT Line EVERY Time!" I sure hope this helps.
@janeanndouglas923123 күн бұрын
My seams ARE 1/4”…2 seams at 1/4” each equals 1/2” total, not one inch, so I’m confused….you have to be talking about something I missed…although I did notice another viewer asked about the same issue…..
@trevarnewighton295423 күн бұрын
@@janeanndouglas9231 You have two seams. One takes up 1/4 on the strip and 1/4 on the square and again on the other side makes one each Hope you understand now. Your measurements are out somewhere
@lindadalton266817 күн бұрын
You have titled your video for beginners so please don’t show new quilters that it’s ok to cut with that rotary cutter coming back at you. You just showed them the best way to slip and cut into their left fore arm. A pro would never show someone to cut that way
@Mama_iza_Fan17 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! You are absolutely right. Thank you for giving me this feedback.
@lindadalton266823 күн бұрын
I don’t want to be rude but these are not blankets they are quilts blankets are made of one layer of what ever material you choose. A quilt is made of three. Top batting and backing. A lot of difference
@Mama_iza_Fan23 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching. I have many viewers that are from the UK that are new to piecing and quilting. Many use the term "blanket" universally. I do teach all of my students this difference, and for some it is difficult knowledge to retain due to the cultural difference in definition. This topic has been on my list for future videos, but I think posting it sooner would be better than later, lol
@margaretduffy136023 күн бұрын
Quilts have two or more layers that are tied or stitched together. Many quilts don't include wadding/batting.
