We have built and sold literally thousands of planter boxes. We mill our own lumber using locally harvested Eastern Red Cedar. At Kinta Sawmill all we mill is cedar and we are specialist at building planter boxes. From years of experience we have learned that after you fill the boxes with dirt they won't be moving so those pointed stakes sticking down don't help any unless you are on an incline. Also the fabric on the sides actually will make the boards rot faster because they will stay wet longer. One thing that would really help is to put a few layers of cardboard in the bottom on the ground before you fill with soil so it helps kill grass/weeds and also draws beneficial earthworms into your box. We use coated deck screws so they won't rust off. Our most popular size planter boxes are 4'x8' and 4'x4' either 12" or 18" tall.

Hi ZH, Great job, it has inspired me to new ideas for my channel, although my theme is different on your channel, I always learn new and interesting things. Thanks for sharing your work!

Nice build. You do great work. I liked the right amount of stuff on the bench to hold up the end of the stock when using the miter saw. 👍 That workbench build you did awhile back is one of the best I have seen.

Nice basic design. I like how they're just open at the bottom. Will have to keep this in mind for future reference. Thanks for sharing!

I’m about to tear out a large one, and we are going with smaller ones next year. I may have to snipe your design! 😂

Go for it! Hopefully the price of Cedar comes down. I built 3 of them before covid, so I was sort of committed to the design, the 4th box ended up costing about the same as the previous 3 combined.

@@ZHFabrications yikes, that’s garbage man! We have a sawmill close by that specializes in cedar. I may hit them up and then mill it.
