I like the tomei cover, gives a classic tuner look
@thirteen12
@thirteen12 2 жыл бұрын
When I see the "classic tuner look" I know everything rattles, the tires rub on compression, there's a boost leak, the synchros are gone, the ACD light is flashing and instead of defeating Lambos this Evo is out there getting humiliated by Toyota Camrys. You can do 600whp on these things with a stock looking engine bay.

You guys need a machine shop that you work with regularly that will make "house calls". Anytime you get into something you're worried about breaking bolts in blocks / heads, just call them up and save yourself the trouble for a little money. When I was in the auto trade, we had someone that would do "on call" jobs with no notice for under $400 in most cases, labor and part(s). That would be extracting a flush broken bolt, and thread chasing retapping or whatever. I am sure if you find someone local and are flexible with when the job is done, you could probably get it under $200.

This video gave me 1g DSM flashbacks. I was one of those guys with broken head studs. I got them out and installed new ones. I also installed a ported big 16G, ported gen 2 exhaust and a Buschur exhaust. 😎. Let’s not forget a Greddy Profec B to control everything. Haha.

You guys should invest in one of those induction heating guns. They work amazing at putting a ton of heat into just the exhaust studs. Personally I wouldn’t have put that lower turbo heat shield back on. I had several recurring problems with my ceramic O2 housing and the bolts backing out even though they were torqued. The grim speed master cylinder brace is also a night and day difference mod. Super worth it.

JGT500 was made by Espelir and is one of the best back in the day. Dent in it was probably from bottoming out or didn’t fit right because of downpipe. I ran that JGT500 for a long time. The only thing that failed was the resonator which I later cutout.

i post the same comment every time you guys put a koyo rad in a car. koyo rads are the absolute best. fits exactly like oem, and theyre extremely tough! i put my koyo rad into a wall going 50km and its literally perfect still. im a koyo customer for life, after how good my koyo rad is i will never buy a different brand radiator. fun fact, the koyo rad with an upgraded clutch fan in my 240 worked too well while i was driving it in the cold weather. If i stopped at a set of lights my coolant gauge would drop from operating temp to cold and i would lose my heat, i had to cover my rad with cardboard so i could maintain temp and keep my heat cause it worked too well

1 thing you might try with those exhaust manifold studs is heat the stud itself until it's glowing but keep the heat away from the head. Then cool down the stud itself so the head retains the heat and it shrinks the bolt inside the hole. If you use a penetrant to cool the stud then it also allows it to more easily get into the threads. Thus making extraction that much more easy to come out with less risk of damaging threads or breaking the bolt. Rinse and repeat as needed until it comes out. Just try not to put too much heat into the head. Too much direct heat will distort or melt the aluminum. Just a thought. Keep up the sick builds 🤙

Some costal CA cars, especially north of Santa Cruz, will develop rust especially if parked outside. Nothing like you get in the midwest with salted roads and heavy rain, but it does happen. Just something to consider/check if you ever buy a car from CA.

Good call on the exhaust studs, even if you had used the heat induction tool and heat em up there was a high chance you would end up stripping it and then its a head job. Very good choice of turbo, it is somewhat the incarnation of OEM+. Stock exhaust heat shield for me, all day

Excellent work gent! Removing the chrome and going with the black OEM heat shield was definitely the right move. The Ultimate Racing exhaust was a nice come up. Looking forward to see what type of HP it makes. Pete while you have the car why not spray the undercarriage with some Fluid film “Black”…that California car is quickly becoming a victim of the rust belt.

With aluminum heads you have to leave the heat on the head to get the studs out. Aluminum dissipates the heat so fast that you have to have DP hold the fire to it. 🔥
