Just use 5 minute mud… 2 coats. Also I would have put one more screw above the top hole. Also the first coat does not need to be left on thick at all. There’s really is no need to sand and make dust. Just keep the pressure on the putty knife at a 45 degree angle and wipe it all off just leaving the mud in the hole. Even if the wall is flat when you are done with the first coat it will always require a second coat because it will shrink a little as it dries. That is why screw heads in drywall ALWAYS takes two coats. When the second coat is done and dry. Give it a light sand with a sanding sponge, spot prime, let the primer dry and the. Give the primed area a once over with the sanding sponge. Very light pressure. This will give you a perfectly flat repair every time.

Cleaning around the pop is good. Adding course thread 1 1/4” drywall screws to either side of the pop is good. Instead of digging out the old drywall nail, drive another right next to it letting it’s head drive both nails counter. Then get some real finishing tools and some hot mud.

@woozledog I don't use spackle. I use easy sand or durabond brand. It doesn't shrink like light weight or all purpose mud does. I can mix it thick or thin. I can patch a ceiling and it's less messy and I can quick patch and paint same day. I use it a lot when I'm doing new construction, I'll prime and paint, let the carpenters install doors, trim , window sills and all cabinets and counter tops. Then I'll go back In and touch up, sand, spot prime and paint. Usually I can blend a color without painting from corner to corner. Depends on paint quality , primer type and quality and if the light shines on the wall.
@jordanharvey2163
@jordanharvey2163 10 ай бұрын
@joesmoth2610 still the same concept. Pros don't use nails in the center. Only nail corner bead , the outer edge or a patch. Screws work best. Especially if its a multi level house or gets a lot of foot traffic.

@Tekagi I remodel homes that have been built 10 to 80 years ago been to over a thousand easy never seen a screw pop .. In some very new construction where they did not seat the screws in all the way ( which I brought up before) and where the settling of the house has occurred ( which is a construction failure ) I have seen screws protruding . But not popped .. failure to construct correctly and seemingly didn't care to fix at built time just patch and paint. Or in cases where flooding of a bathroom etc has happened and there is failure of the ceiling drywall below . You may see the screws .. I also build houses and structures from ground up .. with much more care than the average builder does. Seen many of their new places a year after completion and drywall is cracked everywhere and nail pops .. in a couple new houses built right down the street from me. They also already have cracked foundations on 600k houses .. it's sad. To answer your question I regularly contact my customers every few years to get a report on how they liked my job and my quality of work. If they have other things they would like done. Not one has complained in any manner and I have done more jobs for those customers and seen my old work ... Still like new At least 100 of them over the past ten years. I'm doing a bathroom remodel 2nd floor on a house (80 yrs at least) currently that I did the bathroom remodel on the first floor 15 years ago.. still solid as a rock and no defects ... and this customer as is the same with other customers has forwarded my info to many others who have become my customers. 😊 Basically 90% of my work is from referrals and repeat customers. I have work without having to go look for it for as long as I want . Last 5-6 years I've had to let some people know I'm too full up and feel so bad telling them I can't do their job. This current guy waited almost a year, he said he wouldn't let anyone else do it.. ☺️ I love my job.

The surrounding wall needs to be sanded too. The mud won't stick to painted surfaces very well. But this shouldn't matter, if you're going to paint the entire wall, where this repair is being done. This also gives you a chance to fill other small holes and imperfections on the wall. When you are done, sand the entire wall before applying the first coat of paint. Be sure to 'spot prime' the repaired patches on your wall first. Feather this paint on the outer edges to get a seamless finish.

@emmanuelleallen
@emmanuelleallen Жыл бұрын
@@stanleyhape8427 if the nail won't move, it wouldn't have anything to do with the screws. It'd be because the nail was shoved deep inside the wood. Which was loose before, and isn't likely to come loose again because it's so deep in the wood. But, it's in the same spot that produced a loose nail, so it still might. And is still not worth it. Even if the nail doesn't move. It's unnecessary stress on the framing member, and punching it that deep can cause damage on the other side of the wall.
@stanleyhape8427
@stanleyhape8427 Жыл бұрын
@Emmanuelle Allen the nail isn't going to move, in fact the nail isn't what is moving, the drywall is pulling away from the stud.There is no need to do anything with it, drive it in or remove it .The screws are holding the drywall to the framing. I'm not going to gouge out my drywall so I can get something under the head of the nail to pull it out . Some of those nails put up a good fight and don't want to be removed even when the drywall is gone . Also, how do you think it would damage the other side of the wall? Are you using paint stirrers as wall studs?
