The foldable backing is a great idea. I wonder if there are any "home made" foldable substrates that would allow for a similar type repair

Definitely liking the 3m patch. I definitely would have used durabond 20 for the first coat. Then once that's dry hit it with some drydex. This way you can skip having to prime it before paint and just sand. Done in a few hours max

Ya, I am not a huge fan of using spackle on a hole that size. I agree that the better option would be hot mud.

So glad to see this much easier than us trying to cut some wallboard pieces to fit in there doing different methods and surface doesn’t get built up as much as using surface patches. This type of patch with Hazey on it I think we end up being really quick and easy . I also like the idea that it’s not the same as regular drywall mud but it’s reinforced spackling you so much for offering this tutorial !!

I used this kit and I used the spackle but 24 hrs later the spackle was dry but can push it into the hole as it was flexible. Does it need more dry time or is this normal.

Hi. Can you plz mention why you don't like this method? I have similar repair to do in a BNB and want to do best job I can. Would appreciate any help. I have time to do it and in no rush.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this method. It will hold fine. If it's an area where you are planning to hang something, it's better to cut out the drywall from stud to stud and secure it. If you just need to patch a hole and don't plan to hang anything in that area in the future, this method works fine.
