Hiya, so I suck at footjam whips and tailwhips, one issue I had was my cranks spinning too freely and moving mid-move.
This hack certainly didn't make them easy but it's a big help knowing your pedals are where you left them!
I'm now on Patreon too where I'm offering earlier access, longer videos and more, it also supports me and the channel so please take a look.

I know that struggle. But even more annoying, for me it's the case of bunnyhops. Watched like a thousand tutorials of BMXers, mountainbikers and yours and in my head, I totally know the movement. But when I get to apply it, the technique goes completely out of the window and my limbs end up everywhere. Lately, I seem to get my head around it ever so sligntly, but it's still a long way till I can proudly say I can bunnyhop properly. So I know how frustrating it can be, even more when other people make it look sooo easy. But as you tend to advice, keep practicing. With enough time, enough repititions, I'm sure you'll nail tailwhips, so will I with bunnyhops. Practice makes perfect. Keep on with the excellent content! Best regards.

@@paul3180 it's great to hear I'm not the only one struggeling with such a basic skill. But that must not stop us from trying over and over again. I felt practicing manuals along with bunnyhops does help you when lifting the frontwheel over curb height. Have a good progress, mate!

@@Ali_Clarkson that's the reason I like your videos that much. Other than Danny's Videos they give me the confidence that - with enough time and will - I can push my riding skills above my current imagination. You show us that it's okay to fail and encourage us to keep on riding, not taking shortcuts. Without you, I wouldn't even have started with streettrials cause all the highly polished content out there made it look impossible to master. So thanks, man!

Full disclaimer: can't do any trials. But a little brain hack I thought might help: you can pay attention to your pedals while looking at your balance point at the same time. This is really hard but looking where you need to balance is required but you also want to know where the pedal is. Maybe if you had really bright colored pedals it will help you track them without really looking right at them. Like when you see a really bright colored thing in the corner of your eye. Big fan of the channel btw.

The thing with knowing how to do a trick is always so annoying for me. Learning a new trick seems so easy a lot of times when I watch some videos of people doing it because I can visualize the whole thing in my head and go “yeah that should be doable”. Then I get onto the bike and don’t get anything done at all :D Also you’re so close on landing those hop whips I’ll give you a week of practice till you land one :P

Just a few things about tailwhip: You probably already seen it from other tutorial 1, Always aim for your front foot and look at the front pedal. Stick your front foot out to catch. Don't even bother with back leg or back pedal. Don't try to step over with back leg. 2. There is a new school catching technique called pinch where you just pinch both legs at the Bottom bracket area that way you don't even have to spot the pedals and if you miss it you won't smash your shin. 3. Key to this trick is actually the hop or the boost if you do them on jump. You use the hop to generate the upward momentum to swing the bike around whilst keeping the bike underneath you. If you do it right you shouldn't even have to in mid air to think about swinging the bike around and keeping the bike underneath. It should be just a quick flick in the wrist. If you have to think about swinging the bike around, keep it underneath you and catching it then you will never make it. 4. I cannot stress enough "Hop" is the most important thing about this trick. The only thing in your mind when doing this trick should hop and catch. 5. Go back to the Nike Tailwhip tutorial. Look at how Garrett Reyonld does his hop whip. It is basically a hop, flick in the arm and catch. You don't have to try to push the bike underneath you. Just hop and catch. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iobQaJ2riL2Ka8k 6. I too struggled over 10 years with this trick. I had to borrow a friend's scooter and learn it on a scooter to help me figure out how this trick work. Hope this help

I've only been riding trials a little over a year now (I'm almost 49). Everything is a struggle it seems, but the payoff of finally pulling off each new thing is its own reward. There's nothing like it. But the things I think are challenging me most are hopping up onto things - haven't quite gotten the side hop / bunny hop / pedal kick yet. In time. With practice, I know I'll get there...

Do you reckon the difference in bikes is a factor in you not being able to land those hop whips compared to Fabio and John? Don't they ride 24" bikes? Is there a difference in length, weight distribution etc. that makes it harder on a Hex? Not saying you can't land them, you're really close and I have full faith in you making it happen with practice. All those whips just seem really much more casual when bmx guys do them on their 20 inch bikes than when you see dirt jumpers do them on bigger wheels. Just wondering if there is a major difference?

Quite the video bump! I’ve not watched this since I made it years ago so I’ve honestly no idea what I said but I’ll confirm that I can footjam whip brakeless and it’s one of the main reasons I do it the “BMX” way (forward foot on the tyre) rather than the “trials” way (rear foot on the tyre) as the latter is much more reliant on having a brake
