Great video. What Timecode mode would I use if i wanted to JamSync a camera but also pick up scratch audio?
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
If you are "Jam Syncing" a camera. That means your camera has its own builting timecode function and you're simply syncing it to the RODEs generator. What this means is you'll be able to still use the onboard Microphone or mic input for scratch audio while still having the timecode in your video file. The process that I show where you use the audio channel that makes all the digital blip sounds. Thats not called "Jam Sync". Its a method of getting timecode information into a camera when a camera does not have timecode abilities. However you will lose an audio channel (or both depending on which timecode mode you choose). In which case there is a very round about way to get scratch audio into your camera. Its not ideal, but if its crucial for your work here it is. First make sure your camera has a stereo microphone jack. Some older canon cameras do not have it. Most other cameras do. Use a 3.5mm stereo splitter cable. One end will be plugged into the RODE receiver that gets the timecode digital blips. The other will be plugged into a SELF POWERED microphone of any kind. Hope this helps.

@@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you for clarify that. I misunderstood that though jam syncing was making my camera's timecode match that of an external device, the Rode WP in this case. I want all of my devices (R5 and R6 and Rode Wireless Lav mic) to all have the same time code but am struggling to figure out how.

I realized I forgot to add one thing. You are correct about jam syncing matches your camera to the Rode WP. Your camera however will need to have a dedicated timecode port. Then from your timecode settings menu on the camera you will ask it to jamsync. I have a feeling the R5 and R6 do not have this port as it is a Cinema feature that Canon doesn't like trickling into the high end prosumer products.

Is it possible to start recording at the same time when I start recording video on the go pro?
@TLDR_filmmaker3 ай бұрын
No, no consumer mic that I'm aware of has this feature. Future note that I do see comments from multiple videos. So you only ever have to ask once ;)

Thank you for these great tutorials!b When I export the 32 bit float file and import it into Final Cut Pro the audio is way too quiet. Even if I increase the volume all the way up it is still too quiet. I feel like I’m missing something simple here but not sure what it is. I have tried exporting it at 32 and 24 bit files. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you are only using the "Volume" dial in the audio inspector, if may not be enough. Go into your Audio Effects and use the "Gain" effect to have more control to raise the volume of the audio file higher. You can continue to stack the "Gain" effect if you need even more volume.

@@TLDR_filmmakerthank you for the reply and information. I will definitely check out the gain function!

If you choose the loudness for the audio clip, does the app normalize the audio like lower the peaks and raise the quiet parts? I’ve had conflicting answers, thanks!
@TLDR_filmmaker10 ай бұрын
Hey hey! When you choose the loudness in the app it will lower the peaks, but it will not raise the quiet parts. Editing tools like "Compressor" can raise quiet parts while pushing down peaks.

Hi TLDR, Although I live in Europe, I have my Sony A7iv on NTSC 30p/50 for a 24p timeline. should I now set the rode pro to 30p or 29.98p ?
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the European sony models differ from my US model so you may need to double check the video file on your computer or editor. Usually in your editor if you click on the video file and go to an inspector or add a "FPS" tab in your browser. It will tell you the FPS. So double check that to be 100% sure that the european model of NTSC 30p is actually 29.98.

do you know how to turn off the record button on transmitter so i can hit the record button on the receiver. just want to disable the record button on the transmitter
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
There is no way to disable the record button on the transmitter at this time. If you leave the TX to "always" recording, you won't be able to to stop recording if you accidentally hit the Rec button on the TX.

May i ask - db , what is that?
@TLDR_filmmaker3 ай бұрын
It's a measurement for volume. In this case, the closer to 0 (zero) the louder it is.

Thank you for your presentation. As usual it's top notch. I returned my PRO (sadly) as my editor ( CYBERLINK POWER DIRECTOR) is unable to handle the 32 bit.
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
Thanks as always for stopping in Enrique! Oh no! That stinks to hear about the Cyber Link Power. One workaround is for you to process the audio in Rode Central with their "loudness" setting. From there you would process it out as 24bit. All your "clipped" parts would be normalized. Have you thought about making the switch to Davinci instead? I'm not sure how often Cyberlink adds more advanced tools in their editor.
