Awesome! Rotterdam, where I was born and raised has great modern architecture. I would suggest Delft for a future visit. Much history, lovely city centre, the famous pottery, canals... But it all depends what's on your list. Nature wise there is also lot's to see in the Netherlands. No way!! When in 2018 did you go? We were there in August 2018 during their pride event! And yeah totally feel that, priced us out really quick this time around. Last time Airbnbs were actually somewhat reasonable!! Hope you guys make it back and are able to see more!! We also haven't been to either of those spots, but did go to the Rijksmuseum. Unfortunately you didn't have time to go to the "other side of the IJ", as we say in Amsterdam with the ferry. In the video you were amazed at the new buildings. Indeed. the municipality decided to upgrade this neighborhood about 20 years ago. It was a neighborhood of a lower social class. New apartments were built for middle and higher incomes, which became unaffordable in the center of Amstetdsm. By mixing these groups and renovating the existing houses, the level went up. More cultural things, restaurants, sports opportunities, etc. This also benefited the existing residents. It is now a booming part of Amsterdam where many young (families) want to live.

Never bite in to a kroket like that 10:26 ! When they are just out of the fryer, the ragout inside is burning hot and it almost has like a napalmy texture to it with this state between liquid and solid. Locals first nibble a bit from the crust to make a hole so they can see and carefully taste how hot the inside actually is!. Even while fully aware of this it wouldnt be the first time for me burning my mouth on one. They are delicious but dangerous little snacks. They make it "gooey" by making a roux, a butter and flour mixture used in a lot of French dishes, like for example bechamel sauce. Instead of milk with the bechamel, they add stock (and some other ingredients to flavour it).

if ur ever in the netherlands just buy a OV chipcard. with that u can just ue both the busses trams trains and special tracks like the valleilijn. its also arround 1 euro cheaper per ticket becouse they dont have to produce those trowaway chipcards.

LOL I bet that 'Delfts Blauw' mural was done by a robot. The 'Paleis op de Dam' was actually the mayor's residency back in the Golden Age. Even though The Netherlands has had close ties with the Oranje van Nassau house, it was a republic up till Napoleon times. Our first king (King of Holland, not The Netherlands) was Napoleon's younger brother Louis (Lodewijk in Dutch), after Napoleon had conquered most of Europe. When the Prince of Orange (Count of Nassau, they have lots of titles) returned, it was decided that The Netherlands would become a kingdom in 1815. Louis was king only from 1806-1810, because Napoleon had become fed up with Louis 'going Dutch' and apparently forgetting his own brother had put him in that position of power.

Great video, and one tip should you visit another time. Book a hotel or something similar in a city nearby, like in the beautiful city of Haarlem. Only 18 minutes by Train to Amsterdam CS. Prices are a lot lower than in Amsterdam, and you get more room. Other option is my hometown Zaandam, which is only 12 minutes by train to Amsterdam CS. Even more cheap than Haarlem, and it has a very instagrammable hotel. There are many hotels next to the station in Zaandam and there is a train going to Amsterdam every 10 minutes. City is not as nice as Haarlem, because it has always been an industrial city. (Actually the first one in the world). However it does house one of the most popular toerist attractions, called ‘Zaanse Schans’. Other option you visited is Utrecht, however I don’t really know the prices of the hotel rooms there. Hope this helps next time.

@@IfWeGoTo Zaandam used to house over 1000 windmills, and many famous dutch companies started here. The head office of Albert Heijn is also here, next to the train station. AH started in Zaandam and their first shop can be found on the ‘Zaanse Schans’. On more piece of trivia, Tsar Peter the great visited Zaandam twice to learn ship building. He stayed in a carpenters house that is still available to visit. Russians are not very popular these days, but still interesting history. Claude Monet also stayed in Zaandam for three months, making many paintings including the blue house. Utrecht is quite expensive to live, so I assume that hotels are also at a premium. Zaandam is probably the most affordable nearby Amsterdam. In other cities it would be considered just another neighborhood. Traveling to Sloterdijk treinstation only takes 8 minutes. But I guess I am overselling it a bit.

yeah this summer was INSANELY expensive, which is why we could not stay long.. or even stay in Western Europe! We took the price and stayed in Amsterdam because we came from Bonaire and needed to rest a couple of days after the flight before seeing friends. Fortunately we also got to see Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Tilburg. Definitely need to do more small towns next time too! Though admittedly, it wasn't too much cheaper just about everywhere we looked.. not this summer! lol I think the combo of inflation, travel related businesses that failed in the pandemic, and pent up travel demand all came into play at once and drive up prices like crazy.

I have always failed to understand why tourists want to visit the red light district. When I was working in export sales (ages ago), my French clients also always wanted to visit the red light district. I found it boring as hell. Just working girls making a living and providing a service. Filming the women is a good way to get beaten up or worse. The pimps will get agressive really fast.

I think it’s a pretty iconic place and for a certain crowd, a place to get rowdy. (Like Las Vegas or something in the US!) And for a lot of tourists the working girls are totally novel, there’s nothing like the RLD in a lot of places, and if there is they’re often not regulated or safe. That scene aside, it’s a beautiful neighborhood totally worth visiting in the daytime. Depends on the person at night. Lol

Once, the film was taken out by a pimp ( in the 80s) and another time the pimp tossed the camera in the canal. Well, I warned them. Sadly, there is forced prostitution and not all is well there. Some of these girls are owned by really scary people.

We found Amsterdam to be very safe, but like any city there are a few characters who can misrepresent it!! We saw a few other cities too and loved them, but We will be sure to visit those for our next visit. Thank you for your recommendation!! 😃

WARNING: At present (October 2022) Schiphol Airport is a mess. Flights being cancelled, some airlines no longer allowed to use Schiphol... and a maximum limit of passengers allowed per day!! This is not going away any time soon.

If you come to Netherlands (or just A'dam) don't do what this couple did. Don't be an uninformed "tourist". Basic research and book things in advance will afford you less stress once you arrive. Stay outside cities for more affordable/reasonable prices (easily accessible via public transport). Purchase 1-day or 3-day transportation passes. Purchase "NS Rail" cards (temporary pass for short stays). They are called 'OV-chipkaart' and are good for most buses, all trams, and most trains.

Thanks you for the tips, they’re helpful and we hope people see them… but I think to call us uninformed or tell people not to travel in the way they want/can is a bit rude… especially seeing as this isn’t a guide or anything. Id hope visitors planning a holiday in/around Amsterdam would do a lot of advanced planning… certainly more than us… but in our case we had been to Amsterdam before, plan to go again, and at the time had a tight daily schedule with other commitments too… staying in the city center was a must to even see it, even a few minutes away by train (which we hardly used) would’ve taken away from our experience. & this was booked last minute because we’re traveling long-term with no itinerary… and came from Bonaire. It was the main airport into the region! So again, we really do appreciate your tips for others, but feel like tearing us down when you don’t know why we explored way we did, was a bit unnecessary.
