Tiffin Sambar
Ingredients
Oil - 2 tbl spoon
Mustard - ½ teaspoon
Urad dal - ½ teaspoon
Cumin seeds - ½ teaspoon
Shallots - 20 to 25
Curry leaves
Green chilli - 2
Garlic cloves - 3
Asafoetida
Tomato - 2
Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
Sambar powder - 2 teaspoon
Salt
besan flour - 2 tbl spoon
Water (approx. 400ml)
Coriander leaves

Now a days most hotels make Sambar without dal. It works out cheaper for them. And such Sambar is a nice variation also. Though the proteins are missing in such Sambar. However besan is from Channa dal. So really to say no dal is not correct. I make this version sometimes. But I add the besan to the pan after onions are cooked and fry for a minute or so to remove raw smell. Then add tomato purée... Alternatively we can add fried gram powder (putani as we call in Kannada) directly as it is roasted. Thank you for the video. I like your channel as all recipe videos are straight forward and to the point, no unnecessary talk.
