Thanks for this! I used this video to help revive a DX7s I recently bought that needed a new battery, but also had corrupted voices with no output (seems to have been because of the battery) Thanks!!!

Are all the voice parameters the same on DX7S, DX7IID and DX7IIFD?

Great video! Is the cartridge you're using a blank RAM cartridge or a preloaded ROM one? Does it matter? I just got a DX7s and am now looking to buy the right cartridge.
@EspenKraft29 күн бұрын
The one you see in the video is a ROM cartridge. I don't have any RAM cartridges for the DX any more. Don't need them. Cheers

Hi espen, I own a TX7. Do you know if a DX7II or DX7s can program it, or if it has to be done from the mk1? Love your videos
@EspenKraft Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The TX7 and DX7 (mk1) is the best solution. If you Google it and/or study the manual of the TX7 you'll see that there are some things you should be aware of. It will work to some degree though.

@@EspenKraft Cheers man, I am currently using a software editor, but Im considering buying a DX7

I have a DX7 MK 1. On Linux I use Dexed for patch transfers to and from the DX7. To my ears Dexed sounds identical to my DX7. So it's great for previewing patches or editing them. I am putting together a patch bank with a bunch of modified versions of the OG bass 1 patch that i made. Along with some patches I found online as well as some factory patches. At some point I want to make a full 32 patch bank of bass patches I made or modified.
@pawnotdaw4559 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I also use Dexed to create patches and send them to my DX7. Much easier
@jennoscura2381 Жыл бұрын
@@pawnotdaw4559Lately I been using Dexed to modify the Bass 1 patch. My goal is to have a full patch bank of just bass patches I have customized. IDexed is handy not only for editing patches but creating custom patch banks. Since it sounds identical to the hardware I can preview parches in Dexed and know exactly what I am getting. For other synths I have been using the Linux command line utility amidi for sysex transfers. I was trying to do it in Reaper with no luck. So I am glad I discovered amidi. It works flawlessly on my Kawai K1. Which is great because right now it won't hold patches when the power is off. My guess is that the internal battery needs replacing. Until I get that done I have to transfer patches to the K1 every time I turn it on. Thankfully it's easy to do. Why did synth manufacturers use batteries soldered into the circuit board instead of using a battery holder? On my Yamaha drum machine I installed a battery holder when I replaced the battery. I will be doing the same on the K1. Thankfully the battery on my DX7 is in good shape.

ok now i fixed that but i had another problem because on my dx7s i dont saw any messages like yours idk why!

Thanks so much!! However, after getting the "bulk received" message and returning to Voice mode, all of the patches just say "Insert Cartridge". Any idea what I've done wrong?
@EspenKraft Жыл бұрын
You've probably tried to transfer the patch bank (sysex) to a non-existent RAM cartridge I assume.

Looks like the DX7 II-D doesn't have a "MIDI Edit Exclusive" option in any of the button 32 screens. Am I missing something?
@EspenKraft11 ай бұрын
This isn't a DX7II, it's a DX7s. In any case, they both have Midi Exclusive options under button 32.

Also on a DX7-IID , and I can't find MIDI Edit Exclusive on button 32 either "¯\_(ツ)_/¯" not much menion of it in the IID manual.

I have files that have a .dx7lib extension, how can I use these?
@matthewcassette Жыл бұрын
I followed the instructions with my DX7s , everything went okay until the last step. I got the bulk received message and pressed voice. The synth says please insert cart. Is there a step I missed or something else I need to do? I tried various sysex files but no luck.
@EspenKraft Жыл бұрын
You must choose to load a voice from internal memory, not the cartridge. If you have no cartridge inserted you'll see this message.

You connect a USB midi interface to your computer. This is basic stuff. KZbin has many videos showing a basic USB midi interface hookup.

Back in the day I saved all my synth banks as sysex dumps inside Cubase songs on my Atari because I thought it was future proof. Now I have a box full of useless diskettes... But I'm lucky as I still have a working Cubase VST license and the old installation files so in theory I could still access these banks. But these were just my working sounds and altered presets and nothing fancy. It's not worth the effort, especially since I don't own most of the synths anymore.

Absolutely no reason to 'Not recommend a Mac at all'. I transferred all my patches from my DX7IID via SysEx purely because I wanted to import them all into FM8 and Arturia's DX7 just to compare the results. It worked flawlessly and no PC was involved in any part of the process.
