This works but... If you have deformations in your object (on collision in my case) you need to go to the softbody tag>cache>bake all.... as well as baking the animation using the method described in this video.

Just tried this and works great in R20. But the same setup doesn't work at all in R23 for some reason. The keyframes don't come through when trying to export an FBX in R23 or R22

Semi solution is changing File Format in FBX Export settings to Version 7.5 (2016/2017/2018) on latest Version 7.7 (2019) it wasnt working for me.

The trick is to make sure you have "Instances" unchecked in the FBX export settings. You can still use Version 7.7 with this method. I'm using R25

I use c4d for gamedesign therefore the fbx method is an obvious choice but... the alt+drag option blew me away. Working with c4d for 20 years now and i don't even know how i missed this option. Great videos.

Didn't work for my setup (R21) -> Cloner with updates on the child's 'count' - I tried a few different fbx export options but when I merge back into the scene, the cloner doesn't come with multiple baked children :(

Ugh, I am doing this with the new r26 rope simulation and I just cant get it to work! I have the simulation of the ropes settled in the way I like and the client approves. We not need to simulate some more stuff IE wind but keep the starting keyframe how we like it and not having to restart the simulation from the very start.

You're the man! This helped me a lot. HOWEVER: I set keyframe values on the "Offset" parameter in the Cloner my scene. The animation of this offset value is not retained when I export as .fbx. Any ideas how I can fix that?

This takes me pretty close to solving my problem but not quite. Actually, I have a scene which is using two object-matrix alongside an Inheritance effector to create a morph effect with cloner geometry. Now that the animation is ready, I want to bake it within the cloner individual geometry as keyframes. How can I go about it? Tried the fbx method it did'nt work.

I am using a Cylindrical field as an effector on all of my meshes. I want to bake the simulation and I also want to be able to make all of my meshes (cubes) "editable" while retaining the simulation. Is this possible to do? I have been able to replicate what was done in the video using the rigid body tag. With that tag I am able to bake a simulation and then make all of the meshes editable. However, when I try to bake a simulation using the cylindrical field, it does not work. I am unable to achieve the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

For a beginner I'd say get to grips with C4D's built in physical renderer, just to get the fundamentals down before you start spending a bunch of cash. After that it depends on what you want, Arnold is a CPU based renderer, Redshift is GPU. I personally use Octane.

@@DIGITALMEAT In cinema program 19 and earlier, sound can interact with any animation in xpresso , for example,put sound in xpresso chose object connect to effector in motion graphics then strength in it then to range mapper then to any animation possible in C4 but cinema 21/20 does not happen despite the same steps being taken.

excellent explanation, i love your videos. i have tried with no success to export an animation ive made using the magazine module in the c4d content library to fbx and alembic to import into unreal engine. the abc file when loaded back into c4d looks to be ok but once imported in unreal doesnt work like it should. the fbx file doesnt get baked with all the deformations and bends and only keeps the pages completely straight with some animation. would love to know if its possible to bake out an animation using that magazine/book module. any insights or help is truly appreciated!

Question, how do you export the mograph multi shader in the game engine like unity?

Textures in some material channels will be wrapped up as part of an .fbx or .obj, and will therefore be carried across to game engines. But shaders like the Multishader and gradient shader are specific to C4D, an .fbx has no way of handling this data, and neither does the unity standard shader. The only way I can think of is to bake your material into a texture. I may try and do a tutorial about it.

Thank you for your video! I tried to do as you say but since the objects inside my cloner are already animated separately, it replaces the animation. I'd want them to still do their own animation and also go by an object through the cloner function. Is there any way I can make it work? :)

not that I know of, the cloner animation will be "baked down" and you'll lose the original animation. just copy your cloner and put it in a "back up null"

huge thanks for the great tutorial! although, I'm trying to use the FBX method with a scene where I have a Cloner with basic Dynamics and 2 Random Effectors: one with just a bit of randomness for the Position and another one with Random Mode set to Noise to animate the Rotation over time and I can't get this last Effector to bake into the FBX no matter what any ideas on how to fix this?
