Hi Yola- I'm so glad this is helpful! I'll add dishwashing to my list. Great suggestion! In the meantime... so that I don't use too much, I pre-dilute Castile Soap and water at a ratio of 1 part soap to 10 parts water in a bottle (a re-purposed Castile bottle works well for this!). I squirt this onto my dishcloth or scrub brush. If using straight, squirt 1-2 Tbsp worth into a large sink of water or use a small squirt for one pot. You can adjust these amounts based on the level of greasiness. To avoid water spots in hard water conditions, dry dishes by hand.

Hello! I would love to see a recipe for a Dawn power-wash spray dupe with both the sal suds and the castile soap. I love the castile soap and just yesterday bought the sal suds specifically for mopping and washing dishes. I have to refill my foaming hand soap dispenser so this recipe came just in time. Thank you for sharing all these great recipes

Hi Katherine - Glad this was helpful! For the Dawn Powerwash spray, is that the spray for dishes? If so, I use my All Purpose spray on dishes, which is either 1 Tbsp. Sal Suds or 1/4 c. Castile Soap in 1 qt. water. If this isn't strong enough, feel free to double the concentration. Works great!

Hi .. I make this all the time but now am wondering how long it can last. As a single person , I don't use too much of it and so it lasts for months. I thought being soap , there was no expiry on the made up solution. I only use distilles water too ... but is there any chance of it going bad ? Thanks

I would like to make a Patchouli or Patchouli-Peppermint Castile liquid Facial/Body soap…any suggestions on ratios/recipes? Thank you in advance P.s. Been using your liquid Castile soaps for over 25+ years…My favorite is 50% Peppermint Castile mixed with 50% Lavender Castile undiluted in an empty Dr Bronners soap bottle for use in the shower or diluted in foaming dispenser for hands/face (75% water…25% soap mix)
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert- Thanks for being a long-time customer! Mixing scents or creating your own is a fun thing to do. You can add patchouli essential oils (EOs) to our soaps to create a custom scent. Unscented Castile allows you start with a clean slate, but you can add EOs to any scent. How much to add really varies on the strength of the EO and your desired strength. In a quart of soap, I recommend starting with 1 tsp. of EOs, and add more if you'd like. When purchasing EOs, look for pure essential oil. If it doesn’t say “pure essential”, then it is diluted in some other carrier oil, like olive oil.

Hi Lisa, I started my hand soap using your recipe. It caused my hands to be really dried out, so I changed the recipe to 20/80ish. It is still drying my hands out terribly. What could be the problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@VeracityHabit
@VeracityHabit Жыл бұрын
@ritah6529 I add a couple drops of jojoba oil to my hand soap dispensers. This makes it nice on the hands, however, I am having issues with my pumps leaking and my soap goes "stale" if not used quickly enough. I wish these issues would be better addressed. I called Dr. Bronners customer service and they didn't have any advice.

I just started doing this, I love the way the soap feels but I don't love how it feels at the very end after I rinse it off (it is quite squeaky feeling). It also dries out my skin. Any suggestions how to add in some moisture?
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 5 ай бұрын
Hi there - The soap is completely clean rinsing, which means it does not leave any skin softeners behind for moisture. The different essential oils in the scent options do have different impact on the skin. The Almond, Citrus, Rose, and Unscented are the mildest.

Hi there- I'm sorry you're having this issue. That must be frustrating! Here are a couple of thoughts on how to keep your pump working at it's best. -Make sure to follow the dilution of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. Too much Castile Soap or the addition of other ingredients can cause the pump to “stick”. -Also check to be sure there is no vacuum. If the lid is too, too tight it creates a vacuum. Unscrew the lid ever so slightly to let air in. -Use the pump regularly. When foam sits in the chamber for a long while, it will dry and cause the pump to clog or stick. - Finally, when you refill the bottle, take moment to rinse out the tip of the pump where the foam can still build up and cause a blockage.

Can i use it for wash dishes too
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner Жыл бұрын
Hi there- The Foaming Hand Soap in this recipe works great for washing a single item. For more dishes or a sinkful, pre-dilute the Castile Soap with 1 part soap and 10 parts water. Squirt on a scrub brush. Or, add 1-2 Tbsp. (15-30 mL) Castile Soap in a large sink of water. Use a small squirt of soap for one pot, or more if needed. To avoid water spots in hard water conditions, dry dishes by hand. Check out my Castile Soap Usage Cheat Sheet with dishes and more uses: bit.ly/GGCheatSheetsPage

Can I add alcohol to this mixture and it still be foaming hand soap
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 5 күн бұрын
Hi Donna- Adding a small amount of alcohol of to the soap does not affect the cleaning ability of the Castile Soap. Above about 5% concentration though, there is a dramatic decrease of foaming, the solution becomes cloudy, and the alcohol interferes with the cleaning power of the soap.

@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 10 ай бұрын
Hi there- Whether you’re looking to thicken the soap or make it smoother, keep in mind that the soap already has naturally occurring glycerin in it. More glycerin doesn’t increase the efficacy of the soap, but if it makes you happy, go for it.

Cleaning produce with Bronners?
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 9 ай бұрын
Yes, absolutely! You can do this a couple ways: - For a single item, put a drop or a squirt from your foaming pump directly on wet produce. Wash and rinse thoroughly. - For a big bunch, fill a bowl with water and squirt in either the Castile Soap or Sal Suds til it's a bit sudsy. Dunk in produce and wash & rinse. This will clean off everything from field dirt to waxes to stowaway critters to germs.

This product is very drying no matter how little I use or how much water I add. I'm not sure why that is but my family and i can't use this product. I really wanted to live it but it's very drying. I've added honey, vegetable glycerin and even added sea salt but none did the trick to prevent drying of skin. Maybe it's the hard water in our area, not sure but we're not able to use it.

Clear Tip: Mix soap with warm water and stir till soap is completely dissolved.
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 7 күн бұрын
Hi Debi- I haven't tried this with non-Dr. Bronner's Bar Soaps, but I can tell you definitively that dissolving or liquifying our Dr. Bronner's Castile Bar Soap is difficult. That bar wants to stay a bar, which in most circumstances is good. You want your bar of soap to stay solid from first unwrap to final sliver. Who wants a mushy mess on their shower shelf? Our Castile Bar Soap is not directly a solid version of the liquid soap. They’re very close, as you can read about in my Liquid vs. Bar post 0n my website (www.lisabronner.com/liquid-vs-bar-in-dr-bronners-pure-castile-soap/), but those few differences, which are designed to make the bar soap hard, make the bar soap very difficult dissolve readily or liquify. It also doesn’t melt. (Word to the wise: don’t microwave bar soap.) To see how I was able to liquify the Bar Soap by making something I call Soap Cream, check out this article on my Going Green with Lisa Bronner website www.lisabronner.com/bar-soap-dilutions-cheat-sheet/.
