Excellent work SpyderLEE. On an MR2 Mk3 it's even easier if you remove the lhs indicator/brake cluster lens and remove the connector from the back of the radiator expansion bottle. Much less fun than trying to strip and solder wires from underneath the car, but ensures a neater job.

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the effort and the time to show us the video but the only question that I have for you When you attach that resistor to the two heater circuit wires did you cut the wires or just did you attach it only like when you said you strip the wires that means you kept them connected or you just cut them and pull a wire from there straight to the resistor that part I didn't understand if you explain that to me our really appreciated thanks again

Heater sensor has roughly about 13omhs of resistance. The correct way is to cut the black wires and add 15omh resistor . The resistor should be more than 12Watts . Keep that in mind that 25W 15omh resistor will be around 110 degrees C The heater circuit current draw is roughly 1Amp (0.9 ) . ECU will throw an error if it see difference in the current usage . Using 15omh resistor by tapping like in the diagram will give you (13*15)/(13+15) ~ 7omhs which is not correct. Black wires need to be cut from the O2 sensors Some ECUs are more tolerant and will throw an error if the amp drawn by the heater circuit is bellow 0.2 amps. So this will give you roughly 60omhs which will give you resistor temperature around 70C.

I had P0135 and P0141 errors - I bought new sensors, admittedly cheap ones for £5 each direct from China and they have brought up the error codes 50 miles later. I also fitted the same sensor on my Suzuki Alto daily and they have also failed. Is there a chance something else could be a problem - the cat? I bought the cars with these fault codes already present. Both cats are intact and look visibly good. Would the EML coming on result in limp home mode in anyway resulting in default values for fueling etc? Also, as said my catalytic converter looks in good nick, there's no smoke at all - so should I gut the cat now before it does anything bad? It's on 101000 miles. I had to remove the bottom cat from the car to remove the O2 sensor - everything failed to remove it until putting a 1m long breaker bar on a snap-on socket in a vice! Would never have been able to remove it on the car.

I placed a 15 ohm resistor, giving total resistance 4.28 ohms, this delayed the return of my check engine light. o.k. now if I replace the 15 ohms with a 35 ohms this adds total resistance 5.12 ohms in parallel. Is this a danger for the car's computer?

Would the heater circuit, if malfunctioning, affect the starting of the vehicle? Im having an intermittent start, usually has to do with temperature of cabin. Not the temp of the engine. Sometimes i just drop the top for a few minutes while its in the shade and it starts. Wierdest thing ive ever seen. But Im being told that it might be the crank shaft sensor.Still doesnt make sense though. 🤔
@SpyderLEE7 жыл бұрын
Freddy O no mate I wouldn't have thought so. the heater circuit is mainly for emissions control.

Thanks. Thats what i figured being an o2sensor. Just making sure. I just cant leave any stone unturned.
@8ighty0netv56 жыл бұрын
The heater circuit is just to make the oxygen sensor hot fast because I think it has to reach about 371°c so that it reads accurately this is a good idea for the rear oxygen sensor but you would want the front oxygen sensor to read as accurately as possible because that is what controls the air fuel mixture and if that is not working right then your car is probably going to idle a little rough until it warms up all the way

Wouldn't this prevent your ECM from metering the correct air/fuel mix?
@SpyderLEE3 жыл бұрын
Nope. 4 wires per sensor, 2 circuits of 2 wires. The sensor circuit does air/fuel. This fault is on the heater circuit.
@mattc68974 жыл бұрын
To clarify... Does this solution mean there remains an underlying fault - you just don't see it (because this solution tricks the engine warning light)? If yes, then what are the consequences of not solving the problem? Thanks
