I have a project coming up where I'm filming the whole thing outside... this is so helpful!

What I hate most about shooting outside is all the background noise... Like those weird ringtones that come from those animals in the trees or whatever.
@filmriot10 жыл бұрын
Very true! That's a tough one.
@Lad_Duck10 жыл бұрын
Film Riot ***** Oh yeah, plenty of that. Enough to go around for anyone who films outside in fact! It's like a curse. Kind of like Josh being killed in many Film Riot episodes is a curse.
@AndrewProTV10 жыл бұрын
Film Riot yeah also lawnmowers, cars, and cicadas (those are the worst, they never shut up lol)
@Lad_Duck10 жыл бұрын
*****, the best advice I have: tune your audio correctly, I shoot my video right beside my street, filled with cars. If you tune your audio correctly(a narrow mic pointing your direction), then the background noise doesn't seem as loud, and actually adds to the scene in my opinion!
@AndrewProTV10 жыл бұрын
Brady Gamer yeah, I do my best to do that, but some shots you can hear cars, while other shots you hear bugs. its hard to make all that sound natural. I prefer to add sounds like that in post.

Good tips as always. I knew most of them, but the polarizer tips were new to me. I didn't know you could use them to see through glare on a windshield. You could probably also use it to see fish in a koi pond or something. Thanks!

A tip: Don't get the Rode windscreen, I've seen a test and the Rode was terrible. I got a micover windscreen instead, it's great, although it took forever to arrive... Also, regarding time of day, if you're shooting in the morning or evening, make sure you're extra prepared because your light is going to be changing rapidly. I was not adequately prepared for an evening shoot and had to go into dusk. It was at least foggy so the sun didn't appear to change position or the sky change colour but I did end up with some awfully grainy footage.
@IanRigbyIMRP10 жыл бұрын
What would you recomend doing if you need to shoot a certain time of day, but don't have enough time to finish the shoot in that alloted time? Go back the same time the next day hoping for the same conditions, or color correction in post (or both)? And what if it's cloudy for an hour but clear later?

Pro productions rent gear when they need it. Film Riot rents/borrows gear as well, why shouldn't they be any different? Also, the concept of a crowd funding campaign to buy gear is just wrong. It's supposed to be "help make my idea come true," not "help me buy all this stuff".

I greatly appreciate all the tips for indie film makers you put up. Question time! How would I go about creating an effect where a person touches an object of a color and absorbs the color into himself? For example, an actor touches a green apple with his finger and his skin color changes to green, starting from the finger and progressing throughout his body. Thanks!

This was amazing! I'm writing a script for a short film I'm planning to make in the next year so all these tips are incredibly helpful. I'm sure I'll re-watch them during production. I'd love to see an episode about intercutting dialogue camera angles. When do you place the camera directly facing the subject as they are speaking to another person off camera? As opposed to putting the person the subject is talking to blurred in the foreground with the subject in focus and making eye contact, and intercutting between the two. It's kind of hard to explain but I think you get it. I've always wondered what is the directors mind set for the two different shots during dialogue and I would love your insight.

Since it's related anyway, could you do comparison shots between a diffused light, a dimmed light (like on the LED panels), a bounced light, and a light at a distance ("proximity" effect)? If you could use only 1 type of light I think it's much better! :) Thank you.

Hey Ryan what's the best color correcting software for a poor filmmaker. What about editing people's skin, beauty retouching. I hear assimilate scratch is good, but it's super expensive. Can we do this in after effects, speed grade, Photoshop?

i have been looking into nd filters myself, there are some really cheap nd filters and then there are ones that are around $100. what is the best way to identify the best value, i don't want to buy something that is completely useless, but i don't want to spend to much money.
@connorday362810 жыл бұрын
I have bought cheap (sub $40) ND filters just to compare them to a set of Tiffen ND filters I rented for a shoot, and may I say that the $40 ND were utter garbage when compared to the Tiffen. The cheaper NDs tinted the image purple/magenta and noticeably unsharpened the image, whereas the Tiffen did nothing more than reduce the exposure, as they should. I would watch several reviews on the ND filters that you are looking to purchase.
