Mary, I have taught many over the years to successfully fussy cut. My secret was to teach them to keep the dominant arm/elbow tight against their torso. In this way they will move the paper and not the scissors.

Ooooh what a great tip thank you!

It was not my favorite thing to do, but I definitely improved with more practice and a smaller, slimmer pair of scissors. Now I find it very relaxing. 😊 I recently saw a video by Christine Stokes where she used a very light gray marker to create a shadow border around her image. She then fussy cut using the less defined outer edge of gray. It looked nice and would be perfect for those images that are highly intricate or have a lot of inner cuts that can be omitted because you can color them as shadows. Thank you for the tip on which way to hold the image for using a black pen! I have had more than my share of oopsies in the past so this will definitely come in handy! ❤

This is interesting, I'll have to see that one and try it. Thank you!

@ Her video is titled “Card for an old friend”, posted 10 days ago and it’s around the 15:00 mark. She mentions it’s an old technique but it was new to me. (It’s basically a gray border, but not quite as stark as a white border.)

Love, love all the advice about cussy cutting. And I agree, if you hate it, don't do it. I mostly only cussy cut when the dies DON'T cut close enough for me. Seriously, why'd I spend all that money? But, honestly, it's easier to cussy cut that little bit of white outline than to totally cussy cut the whole thing by myself. BTW, these were good tips, Mary. I do love the new Tim Holtz recoil snips for this arduous task. Someday I may just bite the bullet and come around to fussy cutting. It may be a while though.

I no longer by coordinating dies for stamps unless I'm doing a particularly large project; like mass producing holiday cardst or something. I have a lot of coordinating dies already though too.

Hi Mary. Great demo. I will fussy cut if I have to but don't do it if there are dies. Thanks so much. ❤ 🇨🇦 😊

Great tip RE: how to hold image when using black marker. I’ve ruined so many cut outs with a slip of the pen!

I don't fussy cut a lot, but I have found the Fiskars recoil scissors to be the only scissors that work for me when I'm trying to fussy cut. Thanks for the tips.

Yes they are really good. A tiny learning curve for me but I got used to it quick

for ink blended images too that aren't fussy cut perfectly, use a mini brush or sponge dauber on the edges to help hide them ( you can even deliberately put a bit more ink onto the cut out to blend it better).

The most important is to use that black marker from the back. Ask me how I know. Everyone has learned the hard way. 😉

Great tips! just doesn't work for a left handed person using right handed sizzors.... 😒 Thus why this one here owns a Brother scan and cut. I scan it in and it fussy cuts for me!!!! or I scan it in and tell it leave a small white border and it cuts it such as. When there is a will, there is a way!!!!

So glad you have that tool; works great!
