Was diagnosed with Gleason 6 and had my radical prostatectomy in 2021 at North Western. Didn't want to wait for it to get worse. Doctor was excellent. It says a lot when New York native actor Ben Stiller chooses to have his surgery done at North Western Chicago.

That is good news. I have an appointment on the 24th to discuss treatments. They have my records. Can I ask if you got orvstill have any issues with the surgery?

@@joec42064 So I was 55 when diagnosed and now 58. Two years seven months after surgery I am 100% back to normal minus of course wet ejaculations. Orgasims are now dry but feel about the same. I had full nerve sparing and by month five erections fully returned. I did have semi-firm erections begining month two. Urinary continence is back to normal exactly as before. My last PSA was two years one month from surgery November 2023 and undetectable so I am due for the next sticking with six months. The Doctor says he is so certian of full cure, he wanted to move my PSA testing to once every year but I asked that we keep it six months for at least the first 4-5 years. If you haven't already I do recommend joining Mark's Prostate Cancer Experience on Face Book.

@joec42064 All 100% back to normal with dry orgasms being the only change. Thankfully orgasms feel pretty much the same. I had Gleason 6 with small total volume of cancer inside the prostate as dictated by the pathology after removal. I had full nerve sparing, which gives the most probability of errections returning, though you can also have good errections if only partial nerve sparing. Errections began returning by month four. My countenance is also the same as before with slight changes if I wait too long to pee and the badder is full and I sqaut or sit and get a small squirt so just a tinny bit of less max holding pressure. With my low volume pathology report after of 1% of the entire prostate affected my doctor was so confident of cure at 1.5 year of PSA testing he recommended going annual followup testing but I asked if we could maintain every six months at least for the first five years.

Hi Joe; I have also been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I am however 79 years old. I will be 80 may 20. The same day they prepare me for radiation therapy. That will be 28 days straight. Also start hormone therapy. However the drug the oncologist wants me to take{orgovyx} will cost $900.00 per month. They will have to come up with alternatives. I am not worried. I will probably out live the cancer. lol

I’m 53 and had psa of 4.3 the other day on a lab should I be concerned that this could possibly be cancer with grandpa having prostate cancer

@whitetailsup760 I am not a doctor but I would be concerned due to you having a family history. My dad and 2 uncles have Prostate cancer and mine was the most aggressive. My pathology from surgery just came back Gleason 4+5=9. In prostate, no cancer in lymph nodes or fat pad. I would definitely talk to a urologist. If your in the Chicago Area look into Dr. Ed Schaffer at Northwestern hospital. He is incredible. Keep us informed. Good luck
