Hello guys. This repair isn’t best way to do it, it’s a temporary repair meaning won’t last. Best way to deal with rust is to cut and replace rusted metal. Thanks for watching!

Biggest advice I can give anyone doing work like this.....ware a proper mask and eye protection. The dust from the rust and paint will harm your lungs or puncture an eye. Stay save. Besides that, good work.

If you are repairing someone elses vehicle this way,there better be a clear understanding between both people of what the expections are. Red paint is expensive as well as the other materials and labor. If the job cost X number of dollars and lasts a very short time,very bad feelings could be the result and the reputation of the bodyman could take a huge hit. Going quick and cheap could be more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for sharing this video. It'll help folks make a more informed decision,thanks.
@harman196711 ай бұрын
Most of this type of rust damage on road vehicles also starts on the inside behind the panel and between inner and outer skins, it is a common moisture trap and quite often does not have any or enough paint protection from the factory. This type of repair is a good quick fix for a small area, as you say not as good as a welded repair panel. I would also use an anti-corrosion metal treatment before applying any filler/stopper. Once complete and painted get some wax or oil treatment behind the panel and between the skins, you should get many years from it.

same problem with my truck but mine looked less severe but when i cut the fender out the whole inside of the fender was rusted completely out couldnt even weld it so had to cut like 1 foot of metal out just to be able to weld so just a heads up best of luck
@jamesward57212 жыл бұрын
That rust is coming from the inside, not the outside - that's what most don't realise. That bed cavity is trapping moisture & then rusts from the inside out. Treating the outside is pointless until you sort the inside.
@nsboost Жыл бұрын
Its not pointless. It looks better and increases the value of the vehicle. Because you will almost certainly sell it sometime in future and it will likely still appear 100% better than it was.

The rust will come back in a few weeks, like Bros said you need to cut out the area and apply a patch panel. I have the same truck with the same issue and was shocked at how fast the rust comes back with a vengeance. Next summer I'm going to do a cut out and use adhesive application of a new patch panel, I'm not going to mig weld 18ga metal. Adhesive allows you to better prep the back side with paint.

To a lol the folks reading (and liking) all the many posts saying that this is not the ''right'' way to do body work on a vehicle. They're right of course. It's not. No one ever said it was. In fact he clearly states that it's temporary. A note to all those posters; Not everyone has the ability or the means to cut / weld in new metal or the means to pay a shop to do it. However, because so many needed to say how this quicky temporary repair wont last ''five minutes'' I feel I need to add the following: I live in a state the uses salt on the roads in the winter. I did this same sort of ''quick fix'' approx. 25 years ago to a 1971 Olds Cutlass S with much much worse fender rot from said salt. I did the body and paint in one very long exhausting day. One difference of note is that I used rust converter. Lots of it. The bodywork wasn't the best looking, but it was better than rust holes. I painted that old beast flat black and mounted Craigers on her all the way around ( got them in a local junkyard) and added personally customized tinted headlight covers. (Tinted black plexiglass) Lasted the next five (5) years until I sold the car to a friend. Sadly, he later wrapped it around a tree. My friend was fine. The car didn't survive, but most of that quicky bodywork surprisingly did. Sure this isn't the ''right'' way to do it, but that doesn't mean it's the ''wrong'' way either.

Great video and thanks for the information! I just have a couple of 2 or 3 questions. Can this be fixed without painting the whole quarter panel, and how much should I expect to pay to have someone else do the work from start to finish? I have this issue over both rear fender wells that just started bubbling a couple months ago, and oddly enough, it’s a 2010 Silverado lol. I was hoping to go ahead and get it fixed before it gets worse and have no idea what this kind of work should cost. I, also, have thought about adding painted, pocket style fender flares in the near future. If I decide to add this edition, should I just repair the rusted area, spray on some rust-oleum, and save the paint for the the fender flairs? Or, should I repair and paint before adding flairs? Any info would be very much appreciated… Thanks!🙏🏼
