Any kind of oil mixed with the road dirt will prevent rust well; cars that have engine oil leaks never rust on that side, or on all sides if it's the oil pan gasket,had a Camaro like that, needed half a quart every 300 miles.
@drizler12 күн бұрын
I had same thing with an old 1990 K 2500 GMC . Had tiny rust through on a tranny plug . It just let a tiny mist flow back making me add a quart every couple months. I got it in 2005+- and it had been like that a while prior surely. From the leak area back it looked like it just rolled off the assembly line ! This is in Northern NY salt mine Rustbelt. The paint was perfect ! ATF is the greatest even on rusty old cars and mixed 50/50 with Acetone it’s all I’ve used for 20 years on rusty bolts. Keep it in an old spray bottle hanging on the shelf it’s better than commercial stuff nd almost free👍🏻

Dawn has glycerine in it which causes it to stick. Check out using chain bar oil for the same thing, that is put on with a brush or squirted. Also Dot 5 Brake fluid has a rust inhibitor it is silicone-based as does all modern brake fluid collects the moisture in the air and keeps it away from metals.

Funny thing you may like to investigate - My truck had leaf springs 20+ years old that were covered in Lime. Looked like putty or mud, but was almost white. I scraped all that off and the steel was perfect underneath and could still read the stamped part numbers on them. So does limewash prevent rust?

Great info. I plan to make up a batch and use on the inside of my van’s door panels. I use dawn for removing grease before painting and it’s good for washing your greasy hands after working on the car (use something like cornhuskers lotion afterward because it will dry out your hands)

What's in that Corn Huskers Lotion? I put some of that on my hands right before I went to pick up my little grandson. He slipped right through my hands. I didn't have him that far off the floor yet as I went to lift him so he wasn't hurt but I was shocked that the huskers left my skin with no grip ability. That was the first and the last time I ever used Corn Huskers. Scary stuff.

Great mix. Went back through vid and got exact mix. Confused about only one thing, when you mixed it up you ended up with 1/2 of a bottle. Then on the rear bumper of Zilla, you had a bottle that was full. Since I didn’t see a ton of bubbles in it I’m assuming you didn’t top it off with water. Did you just double all of the original mix you quoted to get a full spray bottle?

@Sweet Project Cars thank you so much. But oh dear, I am still not entirely clear. The product does not remove rust, only stops it from getting worse? Well I'm totally embarrassed! Turns out Canadian Tire carries PB Blaster. It's similar to WD-40. I tried it on my truck and cars various squeaks and noises, even grinding sounds Etc., and they immediately disappeared. So when it comes to making the rust proofing, it simply consists of transmission fluid, Dawn dishwashing liquid , and PB Blaster. And the blaster sold for Less than WD-40! I'm hooked on it. they also have a lubricant I'm going to try.

I'm a fireman most people that have fire extinguishers have them there for years and never touch them. The powder inside gets a hard crust over it when you go to use on a fire it just blows out the air and enhances the flame. Take your fire extinguisher out of the clip turn it upside down and beat on it with rubber mallet until you feel the product getting loose inside, if you're reading this don't sit there and think about it get up right now and do it. Hope everyone has a nice day
