Yep. Have worn Akubra on & off for years.. It is annoying though in a tough country like Australia just how fragile these hats are. Can’t leave them here.. can’t put them there.. don’t get them wet.. don’t let them get hot.. don’t place them brim down .. etc.. etc.. makes it difficult to go bush with them.. he, he, he..

Hi, a lot of the suggestions for Akubra hats are more about preserving the hat for decades... if they get hot, cold, wet, etc. in most cases it wont immediately ruin an Akubra but it will reduces its life span.
@LongyGT3512 жыл бұрын
A real bushy pulls the band and inside patch off the hat as it’s cooler to wear. The hat soaks up your sweat.

Good tip Graeme! Not one we can suggest, but if it works it works! :)

I store my Akubra in the car. That's where it lives the 6 colder months of the year. In the warmer months I take it out, and replace it with my Panama. Neither one has been ruined, so maybe I have just been lucky, but I haven't seen a problem yet and have been doing this for many years.
@goldersromatoowoomba3722 жыл бұрын
Hi Quatele, definitely helps that you take your Akubra out for the warmer months of the year, also depends on the heat. Where we are in Queensland Australia you can literally cook eggs in your car in summer.

Interesting. I got one and I live in central Europe and managed to somehow ruin it and I didn't even leave it in a car. No, I think that it has something to do with how often it got wet. I didn't dry it with heat and yet it shrunk. PS: I have no idea how you can wear this hat in Australia when it keeps me so warm in Autumn that I'll often sweat under it!
@goldersromatoowoomba3723 жыл бұрын
Hey Edi, that will definitely shrink it too. If it gets wet you either need to keep wearing it until it dries so that your head helps it keep its size or put it on a hat block (not many people have those). You can also get rain covers nowadays to keep the rain off them.

If it gets wet, you should wear it until it dries out or put it on a hat stretcher/form

G-day, from Arizona, I want to get an Akubra, but just how much trouble does this leather band make? I would love to get the cattlemen.
@goldersromatoowoomba3722 жыл бұрын
G' day to you too! Are you asking in regards to what heat would do to the leather band? If so you shouldn't have any problems at all!

My Dad learned this lesson the hard way when he was in the army and left his Stetson Campaign hat on the dashboard during a South Carolina summer day. At least he passed down the knowledge so I never made that mistake.

I just sit mine over a steaming kettle and then wear it and it’s perfect in 1 minute again
@goldersromatoowoomba372 Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea! The professionals do this to reshape Akubras as well... a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing though.

Can i get a replacement sweat band? My coober pedy is in perfect condition but the band has dried up and cracked……. I’m in England by the way mate.
@goldersromatoowoomba3722 жыл бұрын
Hey Chip, you can't buy the replacement sweat bands offically but you can go to a certified Akubra Hat refurbisher. akubra.com.au/pages/authorised-akubra-hat-refurbishers. This might not work for you though as they are all in Australia. The other option, while not recommended, is your local Mister Minit. They might be able to replace it for you. Let me know how you go!

Hey Chippy, just pull the band out. Jobs done mate!

Hey Mark, this is the Akubra Queenslander in Sand. It is a style that we had Akubra build just for us. www.golderstoowoombaroma.com/shop-roma-categories/caps-backpacks/akubra/akubra-queenslander-in-sand/

What upsets me is that you buy this hat. And nobody tells you this. Just like any other hat you leave it in the car. Then it shrinks. Then you don’t know why. Then you go to you turn. Then I find you. Then I find out I did it wrong. Then it’s a months salary gone. Throw it away. That in my opinion is just nonsense. The person selling it should be trained. And now. What do I do now. Sitting here with a hat that you say can’t be stretched back to size again. Lack of communication.
@goldersromatoowoomba3722 жыл бұрын
Hi Armando, that is an absolute pain! Sorry to hear it. You might be able to save it if you can find someone with a hat stretcher! Maybe a hat seller near where you are would be able to give it a go if you ask?

If you put your hat in a tub of lukewarm water, get it soaked, put it on until it dries. Then you should be fine. I've done several.

Why dose some of the cattleman hats have a droop on the sides..and fit well in an oval But others lift and are complete circles
@goldersromatoowoomba3723 жыл бұрын
Hi Beowulf, thank you for your question! It really depends on where you get your hat from. We like the classic curved sides but you can easily reshape your Akubra using the steam from your kettle at home and a little bit of pressure to mold the shape into something you love!

Tyson,been flicking through youre vids whilst working out how to crown my open crown akubra……..if I cut you out and grafted in either of my uncles it’d be like sitting in the shead after the yard arm is passed……..never in a car[I’ve got shrunken bands, it’s a pain to fix] and from the older uncle [re hat size] one size to big and store buisines cards in it till 10 yrs later it’s getting tight….I’ve never gone the hat condom[lazy]..I find that in victoria they never get wet enough to shrink long as they dry on you’re head………sound sound rural tips……only thing I’d add is never sit an akubra or any hat on its brim and never take it of by the front of the crown….. Good work my man ,take a 10 yr lifespan out to 20 plus

Haha I used to put my dads hat on the parcel tray. He had an Olympic edition one, I ruined it. He bought another Olympic one and got up me once he saw me doing it. I now own the ruined one... how can I fix it 23 years later? Or is it rooted?
