I hate water damage in a book 😢 That’s the edition of _Unknown Soldiers_ that I have. I liked it.

My biggest fear with wet books is mold 😭 Can't wait to start Unknown Soldiers!

Loved that the color similarity between your ice pop and shirt inspired you to make a video! Too bad about your wet books, though. I read a nonfiction book on textiles earlier this year, Blue Jeans by Carolyn Purnell, which was absolutely fascinating, so I get the interest! Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Hearing Trumpet in more detail. If you feel like buddy reading it or anything, let me know!

I remember you talking about Blue Jeans! I think by that time I already had a bit of interest in clothing history, heheh. I would love to buddy read The Hearing Trumpet with you! I'll contact you on Voxer.

Vanilla and strawberry are my favorite flavors in ice cream. PS I’ll check my Instagram tomorrow. I don’t have it on this phone. It’s raining today in Hawaii as well. Aloha.

My favorite flavor is raspberry ripple which combines the wonderful aspects of vanilla and raspberry (it is not strawberry, but a berry nonetheless, hahah). Take care Marilyn! It's rainy season here too.

Matching your snack to your clothing… so funny! Freddie, I need to watch your videos more often. Love the textile talk, and thanks for reminding me about Golden Thread, which I’ve been meaning to read. I enjoyed a library copy of St Clair’s Secret Lives of Color so much that I bought my own copy.
@SluggishReader Жыл бұрын
Ooh thank you Lindy! 💚 I'm waiting for my copy to completely dry because I really want to read it soon. The writing is warm and welcoming, almost cozy! Also, I didn't know she wrote a book about colors - history of colors has always fascinated me! (Coincidentally I was looking for a book also about history of colors by another author at the book store today.. I couldn't find it though ☹️)

We called them cool pops when I was a kid. Nice you styled it with your shirt for the video. 🏆 Hope your wet books made it. 😬

Thank you! My books are still in the process of drying (day 2 😤) but fortunately it's really sunny today.
@bilbobryan11 ай бұрын
So sorry to hear that your books were drenched! You can sunbath or sunbake them under our Malaysian humid weather

It was sunny for many days so it was good! It did take a few days to dry though..

We would make ice pops growing up too! Thought we call them icy poles here which is super boring compared to ice pops 😂

The weather is super hot here right now and I would kill for some ice pops! Icy poles sounds cool though.

i first went to japan (and east asia) when i was 18 and i got caught in the summer rain in a place called amanohashidate - my copy of On the Road (i know, i know) and my diary got damaged and i was devastated. then like a day or two later i was super happy coz i felt like i'd gotten two book tattoos that would always keep a trace of that rain in that place at that time, and i still feel happy if i see them. admittedly your rain has maybe less romantic potential than mine did, and looking weather-beaten is probably less fitting for the virgin suicides and the golden thread than for jack kerouac, but i suppose every moment has its own kind of wonder, and maybe in a few years the rain-marks will be a nice memento from that particular rain? or you could always give them a charity-shop burial and move on (when the grief stings less!) to brighter, firmer copies =P

On the Road *and* your diary? Is a screenplay of a biographical film in the works? I can see it being both an indie- and Oscar-darling. I guess my rain was a bit unromantic because I, alongside my book, ended up being soaked through and through and I had to stop by at a fast fashion store on my way to uni (again, totally wet) to get some dry clothes. I also had painful memories of my mildly wet books becoming homes for termites and mold. I had to throw away those books, which included the first ever Elif Shafak book I ever read. T__T

I think I would call that color aqua, or even pastel aqua. It is also turquoise I guess, but turquoise for me always seems more dramatic or vibrant, an in your face kinda color.
@SluggishReader Жыл бұрын
I think pastel aqua sounds about right. Turquoise does feel a bit more vibrant than this shade to me.

wait?! you don't call it "aiskrim Malaysia"? I called it that & probably a regional thing. While I was still living in the Peninsular, wherever you go to a market, it is called aiskrim Malaysia hehe

I only learned about that name last month! 🤣 I have always just called it aiskrim.
