Hey, an easier way to solve the edges of the plane not being displaced correctly, is to set the mapping of the texture to "Extend", and not to "Repeat", under the texture settings of the heightmap.

With Node wrangler you can press Ctrl+Shift+T on the BDSF and select all the images and it will automatically connect them all up into the correct sockets.

The edge issue with the displacement map is that it is slightly missaligned. In my experience, it is better to change the mapping from "repeat" to "extend" on the Texture Properties panel. That way, the map covers every vertex correctly.

Have you, or has anyone else, done a tutorial for making trees look like that? So many of them and at such a small scale. Most forest tutorials I find are focused on much larger trees in scenes. Was really hoping to find out more

I do not see "Preview Layer" option in Splat map. It only shows one whole red color and no "preview layer" slider, why? I do have different layer of texture.

Is it possible to export the terrain with the textures assembled by layers and separated by a texture mask? For example, I would like to assemble the terrain and make the textures by layers (grass, rock and etc.. (tiled)) and export to a game engine that does not have a terrain system.

I think that utilising the Octane renderer in Blender would definitely help with that! Other than that, its just a matter of hard work, shading and assets :-) (and time, of course)

As of 3.0 blender isn’t using OpenGL anymore is it? Isn’t it DirectX now?

Oh no, I don't think that's right. As far as I know, Blender is still using OpenGL, although there is a very big and long term project at the Blender development studio to move the whole platform over to Vulkan. If blender used DirectX, then it wouldn't be cross platform. AFAIK, most, if not all the devs working on Blender development use Linux, cent os I believe.
