Small ideas to help improve this project 1. Suspension for smoother riding and more ground clearance 2. Skidplate as to not get any cables damaged by ground debris 3. Small wench in the front and back in case you get stuck in deep mud 4. Fan in the rear to blow air throughout the inside 5. Bluetooth capable raspberry pi that can connect to the battery to show your current charge at all times and you can even add a BerryGPS to it as well for the other features

You have to get ATV tires for your camper so you can have some cushion from the tires. Leave them a little deflated so they are kinda squishy. Then make a drivers seat with little springs that it sits on so you can cruze. If you are really ambitious you could do leaf springs that hold the axles with U-Bolts. Then you could go over logs and rocks. LOL

I suggest that you install an AC/dehumidifier and a tank for storing fresh water somewhere for maximum comfort. Maybe even add a bug proof vent and an electric stove so that you don't need to bring propane and also have fresh air moving through the camper, this could also double as a heater if you keep it on low power, although I wouldn't use it as such at least while you sleep because it is a potential fire hazard.

This whole thing is so cool, and ridiculous, I love it lol. Here is a couple random thoughts and ideas. Some good, some probably not so good... -A DC powered RGBW LED Strip down the bars would be great for power efficient interior lighting. -Strategic placement of some PC Fans may help with ventilation, something like the 200mm Noctua fans. Would be more energy efficient than using the inverter. -A Thermacell for the bugs would probably be helpful -Flexible solar panel roof for the battery? -You put more development time into your custom controller than they did for that Titanic sub... -Box of desiccant to help with humidity/condensation -Folding bleacher seat to give you a drivers seat that can be moved out of the way

Awesome project! I like the can-do attitude. Good solution to the differential issue, you came up with the same quick and dirty locked differential that people in the off road vehicle scene use, welding the spider gears. I think you could also just weld the output axle on the side you don't want, since you're only using the diffential for gear reduction. In a normal vehicle, the differential lets the vehicle turn without binding up, but an open differential does that by sending all the power to the axle with the least traction. Also, I've had issue with tarps tearing through screw heads when attached directly, if you roll the tarp in a dowel or pvc pipe and then put the screw through the pipe it will be much stronger.

This is great! You're living several of my childhood dreams here. A few upgrade ideas: I feel like it really deserves a steel frame instead of the wooden one. Maybe aluminum would work too to save some weight. I've also seen some neat trailer builds using that corrugated plastic you often see those big political signs made out of. Strong, light, and would be a heck of an upgrade over that greenhouse and tarp thing.

Noticing the skipping on the tank treads when it turned, I'd recommend either steeper grooves to make the turning more smoother since the blades would cut into the ground more to hopefully provide more ease when turning. Another idea to improve this design into a V3 would be to turn it into Solar by adapting panels above the head rest area (Where you put the gear at during Drive mode) which would thus mean you'd have to upgrade the greenhouse frame to recommodate the strength for such panels. By doing such, you can eliminate the big bulk in the cock-pit/drivers area, allowing for when it's parked and you're laying down way more room. Finally another design to help would be to make a kind of slider mechanism do you can still get ventilation when driving, but there wouldn't be so much dirt kicked up. Or perhaps a clip/lock-in panel you can detach for when you're sleeping that is angled to just half-way go up so you can get a window, but the dirt isn't kicked up into the sleeping quarters.

I loved this build except for two things. You would have been way better off using only two motors and taking advantage of the differentials (which are welded now). There's no way you're ever going to use full power on all four and doubt it'd come close even with 2. You'd need to add steering though. Second thing, really wish you had some suspension. But overall looks fun as heck. Wish you'd also posted the amp draw at different throttle settings! The reasons the diffs didn't put out power is they expect resistance on both sides. Check out how a car differential works and it's the same thing. Most importantly, it allows it to turn without locking up treads like you are experiencing now.
@21area21
@21area21 9 ай бұрын
I'm a fan of this guy but dang, this video was definitely a roller coaster and it almost killed me. >First he said "I got a motor with a differential." Okay... That's a little odd. Usually with some off-roading device, you'd want direct drive because if one side of the drive loses traction, both wheels won't spin. >"I actually got four of them" Wait WHAT? I mean I guess... You're going to have to couple the front and rear motors as pairs. But like... that's kinda inefficient. You're going to have mechanical losses in the differential instead of a direct drive. I mean I guess it would only be a few %. Not a problem if they aligned well. Your only issues will be that you must run both motors at the same time, every time you want to move. >"I can stop it with my finger" Weird. Maybe he has an issue with the motor controllers. They're probably not feeding adequate power. >"So I took apart the differential and found the problem... I welded these gears" WAIT! WAIT! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOD WHYYYYYYYYYYY. You paid several hundred dollars for differentials only to weld them together. And now the link you made between the left and right diffs will prevent you from turning... All you had to do was run both motors at the same time. 😭😭😭😭😭 Yeah, that was definitely hard to watch. I feel bad for the guy tho. He's genuine and his failures are public for the world to see. So no ill will. It just kills be to see such a dumb mistake. 😭

I love this entire aspect so incredibly much, just the idea that you and a few friends could each make one of these and just GO camping. But as far as ideas I had that I got from watching the upgrade, I do have a few. 1) I love the idea of getting a second identical battery and building a housing around it so you can make the front end look like a big-rig! With the additional power supply obviously you'd need more wheel/tread action going on. What I would propose is to build a small section that would extend about 1/3 the length of the green house metal framing IN FRONT of where you sit normally, make the "front cab" wide enough to accommodate yourself and a nice cozy space. The next thing it would need is some tread, I was thinking 4 additional tread wheels would be good to support this section alone. 2 in the front and 2 right behind you. Then I would try to connect it up so that the front half has an easier time turning, like making it a 2-compartment travel camper. I would also think it'd be pretty cool to add a 3rd axle on the main long compartment right in the middle. Remember the front end and how I said its similar to a big rig with the boxed in double battery for a front end? Well I was thinking to push the batteries even further, get a small light bar kit and mount it overhead, then make cool front and rear lights that are perhaps dimable like how cars have hi and low beams. Additionally I would IMPLORE you to please get 2 more of those fans (i would splice in the batteries to power both) where you add them is your business but I would add one at just above head level when laying down by my head, and the other on the opposite side by my feet. Before that though to keep out any unwater bugs, find, measure, cut, and attach your preferred version of mesh screen to the back side of each fan as a physical deterrent! Alternatively if you could manage to get larger tread wheels and raise it off the ground juuuusst a big bit you could make a cubby underneath where you'd lay to serve many different purposes like cooling food and drinks keeping parishable foods good for longer events! But what I like the most for that is potentially using the 2 fan system to pull air from that cubby into the Big-Rig-o-Matic 3000 to keep it nice and cool on the hot days. Draining could be easy, ensure the interior cubby is waterproof somehow and then strategically drill holes so that the water can leave when it melts. The thing is maybe it should go from 2 to 3 fans if you go with the larger cubby option though, one up front my the driver in the lead cab, one at the rear somewhere opposite, and perhaps one built into a floor board to act as a floor vent. That way you can selectively use the "AC", naturally pull in fresh air and push out old air with just the front and back fans. I would build them into the Big-Rig-o-Matic 3000 sidewalls and make a cover for the fans when not in use to protect from water damage. Thats all i got for now, i hope these ideas are of some use to you

Yay, 2.0! That turned out so cool! The 48 V battery is awesome. With the 4 tracks your camper really wants to go! The only possible improvement I can think of is bug screen on the ends, with magnetic closures. On hot nights the bugs will stay out but you can have cool air. Congrats on 100k subs!

What I think would make this the greatest mobile camper made would be if the sides could extend up. That way you could raise it when you want to get out, or cook, or even stand up, and then lower it back down to seal it up again with some easy clamps. Just a thought, love the build!

Try making a ventilation and add a second smaller battery for an electric stove and a mini fridge for comfortable cooking and for the cold nights or winter a heater/cooler. Also think about adding solar panels and maybe some night time lighting. For the comfortable ride add some kind of suspension

This upgrade is a lot better with the control panel and the Tank wheels. Regarding the mud that comes off of the Tank treads you could put some kind of mud guards there that you can fold back when you have parked up. Also a small folding padded seat without legs on it bolted to the floor may be more comfortable to rest your back while driving so that you do not end up with a back ache.

Excellent video. The QN-02 is a huge step forward. Maybe the next upgrades should be to move the axles closer together, I saw that steering can be harsh, and a shorter distance between front and back tracks will mitigate it. QN-03 may feature isolated plywood hard construction and solar panels. You can even try one of those small portable ACs.

I would attach sections of mesh to the inner clear plastic for greater breathability in warmer weather. As it is, it looks/seems like a sweat box (especially when fully closed up). I recommend MONOLITE fabric, 1 oz/yd or .7 oz/yd 2 since it is significantly tougher than regular noseeum type mesh.

Excellent build. The only thing it really needs is a protector to Mount the undercarriage to protect the electrical components so this way when you go over wet grass and dirt the components under the floor boards do not get damaged. And I use a two outlet invertir so I can plug more than one thing if I need to. I would carry a portable solar panel to recharge battery (if the that battery is made for recharging).

I got suggested part 1 of this right before you uploaded this video, I saw your forest gaming setup video last week and definitely had to drop a sub! My suggestions for the camper crawler would be starting with a bug net layer beneath the clear layer, so you can let fresh air flow in on warmer days without as many flying pests or creepy crawlies getting in. Assuming the greenhouse rods can support the extra weight! Another idea is to add a reclining seat, so the lurch back from hitting the throttle won't be as bad. Maybe you could add an additional layer of planks on top of the current layer, so the seat can recline back and lay flush with the rest for a proper flat surface you can lay on? Would also be nice so you can game sitting up without destroying your back! And my last idea would be for a platform of sorts you could attach to the back, maybe a steel grate style platform that you could cook on and that folds up when you're moving so it doesn't get caught on anything. Could allow for more stuff to be brought along and help put that extra horsepower to use!

Put a fold-down deck on the back and lights on all sides, solar panels on top that extend/slide out to make shade over the deck. Light strings like white Christmas lights don't attract bugs like point source lighting. Some 4x4" posts on the corners with the lights on top would be even better.

Watching the transformation of this camper into a mobile forest haven was nothing short of inspiring. The ingenuity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail displayed in every modification and upgrade truly resonated with the spirit of exploration and innovation. What struck me most was the potential this camper holds for even greater adventures. Imagine if this marvel of engineering could be combined with a boat's functionality. The ability to traverse not only trails and roads but also lakes and rivers would open up a whole new world of possibilities. The freedom to camp on water, to be less reliant on conventional paths, and to explore untouched landscapes would redefine the very essence of camping. Your creation has already pushed the boundaries of what's possible, but the idea of a camper-boat hybrid tantalizes the imagination. It's a testament to human creativity and our relentless pursuit of the unknown. Thank you for sharing this incredible journey with us. Your work is a beacon of innovation, and I eagerly await what the future holds for this extraordinary camper. Keep on keeping on, and may your trails lead to even more wondrous destinations.

I love these, keep upgrading this thing. I have a couple suggestions, maybe upgrade the frame to metal or at least put some paint on it, you don't want this thing to get wet and start to rot. Also, ever thought of building a wooden hut on it instead of a greenhouse? You're pretty good with wood, you could make a little hut, maybe put solar panels on top? But if you do do that I would highly recommend upgrading the frame, don't want to make this super cool camper only to not be able to use it in wet terrain. I'm not an expert, but from my experience, anything wooden that is going to be outside needs paint at least, preferably lacquer, it makes it last sooooo much longer in wet conditions. I personally use boat lacquer on anything I build out of wood that is going to be exposed to the elements, I mean hey, if it protects boats from salt water it's going to withstand a bit of rain right?

A few suggestions; 1) A USB power station. Convert from 48VDC to 5VDC to power it. 2) Telescoping pole with lighting that uses a USB light, would give 360 light for your area. 3) Tool rack? FOr carrying shovel, ax, and other large "pole" tools. 4) Make a small trailer that can be detached. (Water Mule) 5) USB Water pump, if you get near a water source, you can filter it and fill some containers. 6) Replace flooring with thin metal plates. Reduces weight, adds structual integrity. 7) If you bring a "Fog Machine" you can add Citronella oil to the "fogger juice" and fog the area to reduce the bugs fast. 8) You can get a better control set, such as this using an RC remote rewired to work with your system. No RF, but direct wired.

What a fun build and what great modifications to it. I would add some no-see-um bug screen and get a thermacell to keep the mosquitoes away. The green grasshoppers, as you call them, are cicadas. The giant mosquito looking thing is actually a mosquito hunter, so you don't want to kill them. I'm excited to see what you do with this next and I do want to see it run in the snow.

The best way to lock those differentials is to have a plate (heavy enough steel to weld a spline stub to) with a "dummy" fixed axle (stub) on the inside/center, that matches the spline and bolt pattern of the axle receiver you want to "anchor". This locks the unused side of the dif, much like you did, but without welding. You are locking it mechanically. If the plate has a threaded receiver on the outside, you could still connect the two difs with a pipe like you did. This keeps it original and you don't have to take it all apart and weld it.
