No. These pins are in addition to the factory latch, so even if someone were to try & release the hood pins, it wouldn't budge until the hood release was pulled from inside the car, just like on an OEM hood. Quik-Latch does offer a lockable version for anyone who may not be retaining the factory latch or who may want added security. 👍🏻👍🏻

I used Quick latch on my 2016 Mustang EB bumper. The tabs fall apart the first time the bumper comes of and goes back on. A minimum $645 repair at Ford. To stock...which would leave the same problem the next time the bumper comes off. I am quite satisfied with the Quick latch solution.

On your initial drilling from the bottom of the hood with the 3/8” bit did you drill all the way through to the top? I’m just wondering how you found where to put the pilot bit in the hole saw on the top side of the hood to drill the 1 1/2” hole

Just a quick and friendly tip...always apply the thread locker before threading the nut on or bolt in. I've made the mistake of thinking the thread locker will penetrate after the nut was already tightened down...I was wrong lol
@hawkeyestiguy7 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Mangione Thanks. It was actually weeping threadlocker & is specifically designed to be applied afterwards & it penetrates the threads. I decided to slightly readjust one of the studs after the install & I can say that thread locker definitely did its job. I had a hell of a time with it. Lol. Thanks for the tip though. 👍🏻👍🏻

Aluminum does not rust, BUT it does corrode! Auminum alloys typically have a coating to protect the metal, and once that is no longer there, the corrosion will start. And also dissimilar metals corrode. The stainless will eat the aluminum. I recommend anti-seize whenever possible.
@hawkeyestiguy7 жыл бұрын
The latch body that is in contact with the hood is aluminum & it is also Cerakoted. The locking ring that contacts the hood is also aluminum. The latching mechanisms inside the latches & the threaded studs are stainless, but these are designed in such a way that there are no moving stainless parts in contact with any aluminum parts. There is not need for anti-seize & corrosion will not be an issue. 👍🏻

Hey @HawkeyeSTiGUy, At about 3:50 I noticed you have some sort of extender on your battery? Is that just for adding extra connections/grounds? if so, what is that piece called!
@hawkeyestiguy7 жыл бұрын
It is an electrical grounding/earthing kit. Basically grounding wires connect various points on the engine to the negative battery terminal. It is supposed to help the car run smoother by providing a better ground. It came with the car when I bought it, so I can't say if it makes a big difference, but a lot of car guys in Japan swear by it. Here is some further info from the forums. www.iwsti.com/forums/drivetrain-components/12537-what-benefits-does-grounding-kit-bring-sti.html

Does this exact method apply to carbon fiber hoods? And do they need to be sealed?
@hawkeyestiguy3 жыл бұрын
This should work on carbon as well. The placement may differ slightly depending on how the hood is shaped, but you would drill through the same way. They do not need to be sealed, but I'm sure you can add a bead of silicone around them--I don't see it harming anything.

My hood latch broke on my 2005 Civic HX Coupe and the radiator support is kinda...bad. I don't have much money to spend to replace it, do you think these quick release latches are a good alternative?
@hawkeyestiguy5 жыл бұрын
Shippuuryu I don’t think these would fix your issue, but I can’t say. They mount to the rad support, so if it is bent or damaged, they may not align properly or the support may not hold them. They can replace the latch, but it is recommended to have both if possible. It’s your call really, but fixing the latch may be more cost effective. Hard to say.

Ur s'pose to put the Loc Tite on the actual Threads that are being used. You kinda did it backwards....You wanna apply it to the thread first, then put the nut on.
@hawkeyestiguy7 жыл бұрын
Evol_AF Actually, the threadlocker I used is the wicking type & the instructions say to put everything on first, then apply the locker last. It is very thin & wicks up into the threads locking everything in place exactly where it is. I applied it exactly as it is supposed to be. 👍🏻
@Thr33.Sid3z7 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thats different. I have to use Loc Tite on so many different parts on my Evo. The Sunroof motor bolts vibrate loose every 6 months if you dont use a thread locker, same with the ignition switch screws and a few others. It hasnt happened since i used the Loc tite tho... I guess the thread locker you used has its benefits but its weird that the consistency is so thin, unlike the Honey consistency of other thread lockers

or he can use masking tape (which he did use), and have a precise center hole.......
@hawkeyestiguy7 жыл бұрын
I have used toothpaste in the past & it's not a terrible method, but in this case, masking tape works much better. The instructions specified tape because it provides a very small pin-point location, whereas it is much more difficult to get that with toothpaste. When I was reading the instructions, I wondered why they hadn't said to use toothpaste, but after the install, I can say that the tape method is much more accurate. 👍🏻👍🏻
