Thanks Tony for this video. Your explanation of this new equipment easy to understand. I like that you showed us this your first time migrating; as this is the experience for me (Unifi doesn't always do what you expect), and I'm sure this happens for a lot of people. This is a great video.

Good video. Glad to see the successful outcome. I ran into the same issues as I prepared to migrate to my Gen 2-plus. Doing a quick Internet search for the following will take you to solid instructions for accessing the controller via SSH (I used PuTTY) and upgrading the controller. It turned out to be so much simpler than I feared. "UniFi - How to Change the Cloud Key's Controller Version via SSH" Best to you.

I connected the new key while the old one was still connected. Then, I browsed to x.x.x.x:8443 (the new key IP) and it prompted me to update the device. I did it and after that I followed your procedure and everything ran with no issues. Thank you so much.

temporally setup your second cloud key and update the controller version without first restoring from a backup from a newer controller version and after doing that, reset your 2nd cloud key gen2 + and click that restore from backup file and now that you have the same controller version, it should restore flawlessly now. try that and that may solve your issue without having to go back and get a older backup from an older controller version.

Do you have to be on the same versions on both the old controller and the new controller?
@QuikTechSolutions
@QuikTechSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. Great question! Doesn’t have to be same version. Just make sure the controller you’re migrating from isn’t newer than the controller you’re migrating to.

As always thank you very much tony ... My question if this process of migration from cloud v1 to cloud v2 ... must necessarily be done right at the moment of the installation of cloud v2 ... Or if I can configure everything as a new setup already final just do the backup file restoration?
@QuikTechSolutions
@QuikTechSolutions 5 жыл бұрын
So, the migration process as I showed brings over everything including the admin login info etc. if you wish to configure as a new setup, then your probably better off exporting and importing individual sites.

Hi Tony, I'm getting ready to switch from G1 UCK to G2 and was looking through migration videos and yours was one of the few I liked a lot. One question I have is why most of the migration procedures I watch, except one, don't use the Migration feature of the Controller: Site->Export Site? Maybe it was not available at the time you did this video and now is?! I would like to hear your expert opinion on this. I also would like to know which way is the best way to migrate to save all my current configurations of open ports that are assigned to current/old UCK G1 when I migrate to G2?
@QuikTechSolutions

Hey Alex. Thanks for watching. The Export Site option is best for a controller with a single site.

Tried watching you video to help me migrate to my new CKgen2 however my auto backups are NOT old enough! And I’m running into same issue as you did. I’ve noticed you have not updated with any new info?? Can you help shed light on this please.

Hey Tony, I got this message from the UI forum to a problem I am having - I believe the issue is with the Unifi version 6.x of the controller. Go to the 5.14.23 release page and use the instructions in the link below to build your CK on that version. How do I do that??
@QuikTechSolutions
@QuikTechSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
I would start over from scratch by reinstalling the controller via ssh. Be sure to do a backup first, these following commands will delete your configurations. apt purge unifi -yrm unifi_sysvinit_all.deb* wget dl.ubnt.com/unifi/5.14.23/unifi_sysvinit_all.deb dpkg -i unifi_sysvinit_all.deb

How do I downgrade my UCK from 6.0 back to 5.14.23?
@QuikTechSolutions
@QuikTechSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
There is a way to purge the controller, then reinstall from scratch. The key is to have a backup from the version you wish to roll back to. I haven’t had any reason to try this, so I can speak first hand on the exact steps. I will test rolling back my lab CK Gen2 plus this week. I’m sure if you google how to roll back the Ck , someone out there will have an answer.

What is the value of doing this migration ? I am already running V1 is there any value I will get if I loved to V2 that I am not getting from V1 knowing that I already have the Ubiquiti Dvr for the camera system

Hello Abdullah, A couple of things to consider. Moving from the Gen1 to the Gen2 has a benefit of an onboard battery. In the event of a sudden power loss, the Gen2 will do a soft shutdown, unlike the Gen1. When the Gen1 loses power there is risk of the Mongo DB becoming corrupt. So, that in of itself is a reason to upgrade, plus it's newer technology. Now, since you already have the NVR, you can always upgrade to the Gen2 instead of the Gen2 Plus. Understand that the Gen2 Plus has Unifi Protect, not Unifi Video. Two different animals. So, like I said, lots to think about. Hope this answered your inquiry.

Thanks Tony! As always, great video and great content, keep it up! I have a problem with a UniFi Setup, the Cloud Key was fried during a power outage; unfortunately when the key was replaced the guy in charge did not keep the SD card with all the backups and configurations of the site (big mistake). Aside from that I don't have the username and password of that controller, ergo I cannot migrate the devices to a new controller. Could a factory reset solve this problem? I believe it should, but in some forums people have told me that you need the username and password of the original controller for fully releasing the devices.
@QuikTechSolutions
@QuikTechSolutions 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning in and commenting, much appreciated If you’re starting out with a brand new controller, you’re going to have to perform a hard factory reset on each of the devices, the switches, the access points, etc. Once each device has been factory reset, then you can adopt them into the new controller. Unfortunately, without a backup you’re going to have to create the network, SSIDs, everything again from scratch.
