Great block! It is a LOT easier to make these half square triangles using sheets you print yourself...for years I have been using the Triangulations program (BearPaw Productions). It prints up on your computer, any size HST's you need, which you then sew quickly in bulk with accuracy. They have a demo sheet you can try. This program saved my quilting life!!! Awesome for using up scraps.

Could you use 5inch (charm) squares...square them to 4 1/2 inches...and have it work out the same? The final block would be just a bit bigger?

I can't see why not Deidra. It's all half square triangles so you should be able to use any sized squares. Here is a link to the website where we have measurements for other sizes. www.alandacraft.com/2018/11/15/yankee-puzzle-quilt-block-tutorial/ although I hadn't gone up to 5" squares.

What measurements do I cut fabric to make 15" blocks of the Yankee Puzzle pattern?

I haven't made the block in this size, but I do have the measurements from a 6" up to a 12" block on the website, www.alandacraft.com/2018/11/15/yankee-puzzle-quilt-block-tutorial/. The sizes go up in increments so I think that you would just follow the sequence. However, you would need to make a test block to make sure it measures the size you want.
