Donna…get Quilters Select rulers. They won’t slide. I am a longarmer and used a weight for years. Now the weight can be a door stop. No longer needed with Quilters Select.

@@jordanfabrics8380they’re magic when matched with the QS cutting mat. You can turn the fabric under the ruler and no need to reposition fabric.

or you can spray your rulers with “Odif” grippy spray. makes the back of other rulers like quilter select rulers or fixes quilter select rulers when we wear off the grip. but i still use my weight. i like the protection

Beautiful quilt! I love stars, neutral fabrics and grunge. I think I'd draw out those double flying geese blocks and foundation papet piece them to save on a lot of fabric waste. Interesting technique though to create the star on a square look.

A very beautiful quilt. My vision is going so I watch it on my TV in my room. Alas, I will have to watch it on the bigger TV in the living room. All the colors blended together, and I couldn't really see the prints. Were there prints? I guess I'll find out tomorrow. ❤🎉

Love the block but the piecing methods waste so much fabric! I bet there are ways to redesign the block using no waste flying geese that would get you most of the way there without the waste.

Well, this one surprised me. The neutral colors aren't my thing, but i loved the way this turned out. Looks time-consuming for certain and a bit tedious, lol, but really beautiful. The segment of the block that you had never made before was really neat. I've never seen it before either. Another winner.

Donna, I just made that new-to-you portion today. I made a very similar star for a red white and blue table runner. I’m new to quilting so I didn’t even know this might be a new technique. I loved watching how you did yours. I didn’t look right to me at first but I trusted the instructions. That little diamond square in mine is navy blue with white stars. It looks great!

All the blocks are made exactly the same, it is the fabric colors/patterns that make them look different.

Three down and this one to challenge the hell out of me. Just one question, with all the corners you cut off what do you do with that fabric as it seems a waste? Also does your kit include the pattern?

The kit does include the pattern. Sometimes I use the cut off parts to make small HSTs and use them for borders or in another project.

I am grateful for Donna's tip to use the weight to hold the ruler. It allowed me to better use rulers I already have, rather than having to make another purchase.

What a beautiful pattern!! The floating square with the triangles is such a diffferent pieced section!! I would think it would be a cool technique to use if you were msking tulips!! Of course you would need to adjust the size and maybe the angles but my mind kept thinking of tulips when tou put the section together!! Lovely neutral color combos!!

Thanks for yet another great tutorial. I have a suggestion about another way to make the “square in the flying geese” unit. I’ve used it in other quilts. It can be achieved using paper piecing. Study that unit for a minute or two…it can be drawn by using your rulers, or on graph paper. Once you figure it out, you can probably fit two of them on a single piece of standard computer paper. Copy to get the number you need. Ultimately, I think paper piecing is less fiddley and more square than dealing with all those diagonal/ bias seams.

🤩 Magnificent quilt! I really like this color palette! That double flying geese (for lack of a better name to call it) block is spectacular!
