I do the same but use 5' for the 4 background ones and 4" squares for the rest. That way I can trim the block easily.

There is NO WAY by the looks of this that the top blue peaks in the center will not fray. I don't understand because the white that folds over for top stitching in the video is NOT long enough to keep that from happening. It doesn't show the white fully covering the top and bottom peaks here. At least it looks that way. Beautiful end results except for this. Can someone please explain?

Jenny, I have just started quilting (love your tutorials). Thread, I go thru a lot of thread. I am using serger cone on my sewing machine now. Is this ok ? I have made about a dozen baby quilts so far and no issues. I am only stitch in the ditch them currently. Should I be using something else ?

Jim serger thread will certainly work as you have seen. It is a different thread, with a different twist to it and may be different content which could slightly affect durability but not much. However, I say if that is what you can afford and are comfortable with then go for it! I used it too for a long time. You don't have to use expensive Aurafil to make a fabulous quilt! I use Connecting Threads brand, you should check them out. Very affordable, and great colors. Love the products, the service... if it works...do it...I use cone thread on my machine and sometimes embroidery thread if I need a special color...

Exactly!! It's about the artwork, the joy and the joy it brings others. Today's threads are all great and you use what works for you. I am excited that Jim is quilting! It's a wonderful hobby. I have several quilts that my Great Grandmother and Great Great GM made, sometime around 150 years ago. Quilts are gifts that bless others for a very long time.

Yeah, this looks super easy, until you actually try it. Just finished a disaster of a cushion cover that took 2 hours to complete and came out looking horrible. I used silk though :'(
