I met Marion Coleman in 1990 in Carson California. I fell in love with the pillow that she made with African American figures. I did not purchase any items from Marion but I kept her business card. Time passed and in 2005 my son passed away from a rare heart disease. He was an Orthopedic Surgeon and owned lot of clothes. I wanted to keep some of his clothes, especially his Physician’s coat and contacted Marion to ask if she could make a quilt of Kevin’s favorite clothes. The answer was yes. I have a beautiful quilt to remember my so and Marion Coleman.

I am not far away, and would even love to do this via Zoom or Duo and when I come home to see my mom.

I love these type of quilts, where every inch has a story. I am busy with my first ever quilt , a story/ family quilt. I have never quite taken to wanting to do triangles or hexagons etc, though I respect the skill that goes with it. Thank you so much for this video.

Absolutely breathtaking! I grew up in Hayward, CA and I wish I could have found you before moving away from the bay. But I really would love to join your guild and learn from you. I simply love your work. I feel that our younger generation needs to learn this art as well, so that we do not loose it eventually. What a gift that you have! 💜💜💜

Marion is a sweet friend and an incredible, talented quilter. Her beautiful work can be seen all over the SF Bay Area, including Castro Valley Library, San Lorenzo Library, REACH Ashland Youth Center, and the Hayward Area Historical Society.

Just watched a video on quilt history by Mary Fons. In the video it showed a lot of interesting & beautiful quilts & she explained the ones that were the most intricate were Not pieced by the rich who had access to expensive fabric at the time but by their slaves in most cases

Amazed and humbled by the outstanding beauty created by you. I can only hope to be able to see your beautiful work in person one day. Is your work on permanent display anywhere in California?
