I was taught when I machine bind is to sew to back, bring to front, that way if it’s a bit off it’s on the back. If I’m hand binding, I sew to front & bring to the back, depends on my project which way I bind.

I vary which way I do it as well. Sometimes I use 2.25” instead of 2.5” when I want to sew to the front to keep the binding small.
