hello thanks for video as i had forgotten how to use my exist tubes kit, i bought years ago and as i am making strap for a Byannie Bag i sewed on the large stitch one end , as you suggested need a closed end however i have to place strapping inside my tube so with the large stitch down one end it was easy to gently poke thru once all thru then un picked . many thanks for video

Nice! Someone commented that they were going to use a pinking rotary cutter instead of cutting, sewing and then using pinking shears. There would be no stopping you then!

We need BOTH our local quilt shops AND Joann Fabric. Today, for example, my list of errands included a stop at Joann Fabric for interfacing (on sale). While I was there I found batting on sale, so grabbed a couple of packages, and some Christmas fabric that was just too cute to pass up (also on sale) and socks for my granddaughters. Next stop was my local quilt shop, where I purchased some Aurifil thread and 1/2 yard of fabric for binding a quilt. Both stores have things that I need. My quilt shop does not sell buttons and elastic and polyester thread, and a lot of other things that Joann sells. I will be very sad if Joann doesn't make it out of this bankruptcy. We already lost Hancock Fabric several years ago. I don't see Hobby Lobby and Michael's quite filling the void.

Thank you for a well explained tutorial. I just made the small version and it was very easy to complete. I noticed the interior bottom was smaller than indicated on your chart. I rewatched the video and noticed that you said the small has 1" sides, but the chart indicates 1.5" sides. That explains what happened. I'll try the small with 1" sides and see which way I like it better. I love that the size can be customized.

I will just say that if it isn't for Joan-fabrics I wouldn't be able to afford to do what I love.....quilting I can't afford to buy those high end designer fabrics like others can. Which is fine. But if they go under my love for sewing and quilting is over. I have made hundreds of quilts all fabrics from Joan-fabrics and I have never never had a problem with the fabrics.

I've had a few requests so a big box is on the list. I'm not sure how well it would work without the box on bigger tissues tho - when you use 1/2 or more I think the fabric would flop a bit. Stay tuned!

@ArtistTaraReed I just got done with my first try. I made it too long by about 1 inch. I did 11 inches for the length. Overall, you're exactly right. It's floppy. I boxed the corners per your instructions so that helped a bit. I hand sewed the opening about 2.5 inches on both ends. Ok, it's definitely not anything to crow about but it works good enough for now. But thank you for the instructions.

The Jo-Ann's in my area are still open. However, last week I went in there to pick up some things. I had my husband with me who has dementia. We are seniors. He needed to use the restroom. Unfortunately, they blocked them off saying their bathrooms no longer work. You have to go to the store at the end of the strip and use their bathroom. We had to hurry to the other store before my husband had an accident. At that point, there is a wonderful quilting shop 5 minutes from Jo-ann's. Found everything I was looking for and then some. Spent over $100. They made sure my husband had a comfortable chair to sit in while he waited for me. They helped me with some projects I was working on. Absolutely love this store. Also have several Hobby Lobby's and another wonderful sewing machine dealer where I bought my brother and many supplies from there as well. Many of the prices from the dealer and the quilt shop were cheaper than Jo-Ann's. It's really a shame. They need to revamp.

I agree with you, too. I am a volunteer for a local non-profit group that sews lots of things like pillow cases, adult bibs, blankets and bags for nick-u babies, treat bags for community trick-or-treats and so much more. We depend on donations of fabric and Joann's to do these projects. The funds we get from our sidewalk sales and handmade boutique items allows us to afford to buy the fabric to keep giving back to the community. We were just having this discussion about the future of Joann's with these bankruptcies. I gotta say, we were wondering what we were going to do if we can't sustain the amount of fabric needed for our projects with just donationed fabric. When you're putting together a thousand pillow cases, hundreds of bibs and treat bags, and all the items that we create each year, we won't be able to survive on just donated fabrics. We won't be able to buy lots of fabric needed at $10 - $15 per yard. I hope there can be a solution to this before closures.

Joann fabrics is an hour drive through horrendous traffic from where I live, so I shopped from their website. Never again! I would buy apparel fabric and some cottons for cotton shirts. I received my fabric in multiple different lengths instead of continuous. I couldn’t make any of my clothes because of it. So I wrote a review on their website, and I was sent an email from Joann fabrics stating that my review didn’t comply with the guidelines, and my comment was deleted. I only said what I just typed, that “ I couldn’t make any of the clothes I planned to make because the fabric I received was in multiple different lengths, and this is the second time it’s happened. I will not shop at Joann fabrics again”, I checked their review guidelines, and they were ridiculous. They have since changed their review guidelines. I have found a much better fabric store for apparel fabric, and I get what I ordered in continuous yardage.

How does hobby lobby fabric compare to quilt ahop
@ArtistTaraReed

Hobby Lobby is considered a big box store so their fabric is more like Joann than a quilt shop -at least for cotton quilting fabric. Ive bought fabric at Joann, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc when I’m doing things that aren’t meant to last for a long time. It all depends on the project and what you want or need to spend on it, right?

Nice Job Tara! We do need both! I go to Joann for primarily fleece.I am in charge of purchasing fleece for our church.We are a small country church.We make prayer blankets. It takes us 4 yards per blanket. I just ordered 200 yards of fleece. That will last about 6-8 weeks. We have a core group of women, about 12, that work so good together. My concern is without Joann, where will I get the fleece from at a price we can afford? Quilt shops don;t carry fleece. Every business, especially one that is over 80 years old, we need to make the sewing world tick. PLEASE, don't hate Joann's. just buy your quilting fabrics were you choose.Quilting is not the only sewing venue there is. I have a friend that sells dog accessories, she doesn't need quilt quality fabric. Neither do bowl cozies, tote bags made from canvas, doll clothes, the list goes on and on. I want all the mom and pop shops to survive BUT, I also want and need Joann's to survive.

@@ArtistTaraReed I have been going to JoAnn's. My local fabric store was House of Fine Fabric until JoAnn's bought them. As they've expanded into every other craft, with wood items, paints, etc. I noticed a poorer selection of fabrics. It was almost as though fabric became a sideline. I hate to have to buy fabric online, as I can't feel the fabric without paying for swatches first, but it may come to that. Minnesota Fabrics closed years ago. G Street Fabrics caters to seamstresses who make custom items for rich Washingtonians, but I have found fabrics sometimes (after bypassing the silk, sequins, brocade, etc.)
