Oh Erica....you made me laugh! Here is my tiny scrap box...and I thought...not too many scraps....then you produce a small bag..ok....a few more scraps.....then the big guns come out....that's it...all the scraps on the table....it really made me chuckle. I seriously thought you had just the tiny box!!! Girl after my own heart💕 Great video, I love your calm style of teaching and will be coming back to watch this again as I delve into crumb piecing. Thank you so much for the tutorial....and for making me laugh. I'm now going to rummage in my tiny box of scraps (said no quilter EVER!!)🤣😘 xx

After making sundresses for my neice, I include bits of leftovers into one of my crumb blocks. Then I can sew her a small bag or doll blanket with HER dress in it. She's usually quiet but ask her about her bag/doll quilt and you'll get quite a story about her outfits. lol 💕 Thank you for your videos.

I am enjoying your video’s. Your instruction is great. I love scrap and crumb quilting as I can sit and just create. I usually make 10 inch squares and just store until I need to make something. They are fun to add to baby quilts. I did QAYG about 69 squared all crumb. Learning to finger press seams open for the crumbs. Just purchased a small iron to get the seams flatter and a clapper. I have found that my scrap pile grows overnight. I am not sure how it does but I never run out. Thank you Brenda at mount scrap more quilting for sending us your way.

Thank you kindly for sharing your skill, knowledge and enthusiasm for this fascinating option for beautiful projects. This video was excellent!

This would be perfect for a picnic quilt! It is beautiful enough for display, but is an inexpensive way to achieve a quilt top! This makes me thing of my grandmas busy quilts but she died before I got old enough to be interested in quilts. Thanks for showing me how I can get a feel for her personal quilts, she made tons of fancy pieces but only made these for everyday personal use to wash a million times, go on picnics, to pad something fragile for moving or storage, in the trunk of your car for emergency’s. One she did all in prints, and hand appliquéd a design using solid pieces, that was her bed quilt and it was stunning.

Wow! Thank you for providing the crumb block in detail and down to earth tutorial. Love the way you have separated the different sizes of left over fabric. It's a very good tip shared. As "crumb block" style of making a quilt is new terminology for me, do you mind simplifying the process in words. I am gaining an understanding the way to create this style. E.g.. hexagon block. I automatically picture the shapes required. Trust you do not mind me being not able to grasp. Thank you, Erica, for an amazing share and demonstration. 👌💐

That looks like so much fun. I've only started quilting recently so I don't have a crumb stash yet, but I'll definitely keep what I have. One question, at 11:25 - 11:30 you are adding another piece, but its not connected to the piece before it. How does that affect the block?

Thanks for your question. In that section of the video, I am creating new crumb sections. I sewed individual pieces to one strip, then cut it apart. There are now several new beginnings for blocks. Thanks so much for watching!

Really enjoyed the video Erica, can you just tell me what 'leaders and enders' are?
@PurpleQuiltCo6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! Leaders and enders are pieces of fabric that you might stitch before or after your project piecing. This helps to keep the machine from "eating" your work, particularly if you are piecing smaller bits of fabric. Instead of just using one piece of fabric that you would stitch over and over, I use that opportunity to stitch other pieces together. It is a fancy way of saying that I stitch at least two blocks at a time, one after the other.
@jacquiwilmot96026 жыл бұрын
Thanks Erica, I think I understand!

Erica: Tote bags, placemats , shopping bags, clutch purses or bags pillow covers, relatives (kin), etc. If you are feeling charitable, there are lots of children organizations that need quilts. I sent 5 patchwork 36x36 quilts to a foundation in connection with Nancy Zieman last year. Although, since yours are very nice and pretty; sell them through internet or set up a booth at festivals\fairs, etc. I will be keeping my first for myself, the others will be given to community service through a quilt guild I belong to. Keep up the good works.

how do you do the quilt sewing on crumb blocks so that every piece is quilted down to the backing? or do you worry about having each piece quilted down?
@PurpleQuiltCo5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. These blocks are not quilted down to the backing yet. I am only focused on making blocks with the smaller pieces of fabric. I do not worry about quilting every single piece onto the batting since they are already a cohesive block. Thanks for watching!

no where in this do I hear the pedantic ravings of the women who say cut fabric by the grain. are we supposed to check the grain and work off that direction with each and every scrap of fabric?
@PurpleQuiltCo6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. I do not worry about the grain of the fabric since I typically start using small pieces. I think that the bias can help with making the fabrics "fit" together; that stretch is used to your advantage. Thanks for watching!
