Quincy Jones' production on MJ's Thriller album is probably his biggest commercial accomplishment. The Netflix doc called Quincy is well worth the watch.

True but he was already music royalty it's a shame that his resume only minimize to thriller. If we're just going by sales it's impossible to pinpoint when Quincy worked with tons of artists. Movie soundtracks TV show themes

I thought Kai might recognise the MF Doom sample from ‘One Hundred Ways’. I’m actually jealous that Kai has a whole catalogue of Quincy Jones music to discover. On James Ingram - one of the silkiest voices of the 80s. Check out his duet with Michael McDonald ‘Yah Mo Be There’. Also one of his best pop songs is ‘Always’ from the late 80s.

He's THE all time super producer. He adapted with the times but that jazz/big band knowledge and experience took it over the top. He could hear where everything should go. So the songs built up energy as they progressed and had a lot of elements to keep you entertained, especially by the 80s when technology was advancing. MJs albums with him are mesmerizing, especially in headphones.

Hi, guys! I haven’t watched the video yet, but I will. The funny thing is that you’ve DEFINITELY heard his music before because his influence is so far-reaching as to be almost ubiquitous. Gosh I was born in UK but grew up in Nigeria and realise we Nigerians are truly privileged to hear all types of music from all over that I really find it difficult to hear a song I don't know from UK or America. We had the LP and danced a lot. Life was amazing. I read comics, watched cartoons, Soul Train and Top of the pops, listened to amazing music and just enjoyed life without a mobile phone or social media.

My very favorite EARLY track from Quincy Jones is Killer Joe. It came out in 1969...it's awesome and he is playing trumpet on this jazz track. Hearing this come across the airways was everything. Also, I wish you had chosen Tomorrow sung by Tevin Campbell...beautiful!!! (Maybe you should do a really rabbit hole. 🤔 The Dude and Q's Jook Joint would do it for his mid career. )
@denisea.nicholson-metz88722 күн бұрын
It amazes me that all of these songs are new to you. Just so you know, Fly Me to the Moon features Frank Sinatra AND The Count Basie Orchestra playing the instruments you love so much! The Off the Wall album was MJ's first "Adult Album" to break away from being a child performer. I think you should also listen to Soul Bossa Nova from 1962 from the Big Band Bossa Nova Album by Quicy to really hear his range of musical genre spanning.
@mini18122 күн бұрын
I wish you'd chosen one of the songs from the only album of his I've ever owned, Q's Jook Joint. Great combination of his jazz origins and later production work in R&B. As your first patron said, lot to explore in seven decades of work, so it was all never going to fit into one KZbin video. It is great that y'all covered him!
@masterdivineallah67582 күн бұрын
You know. There should be more talk about Quincy Jones after his death. However, I think all the other shit is on peoples minds. There's no way you can do him just musically in one video. What you covered was a great range. I like that. You may need to do a part 2 or 3😂. If you go deeper. Here are some..."Sanford and Son theme song" and all his T.V. accolades. "Secret Garden " "We are the world " etc...

When Quincy Jones (and brother)was growing up in Chicago, he said he and his brother would catch rats, bring them home, and their mother would clean and cook them. He was a trumpeter, but had to stop playing due to brain aneurysms. They had a fought time, with their mom suffering from mental illness also. He also composed the Cosby show theme...the one from the 70s *Back on the block* was a good album which went back to some of the work that had been previously done. It featured every type of song and singers from Rap to Jazz.
